I KNOW, RIGHT?? I was 100% expecting a 2.8 or 3.1 under there and was quite shocked when he opened the hood to reveal a Quad 4 lol. I'm also from...well...Stuck in Ohio.
@@manitoba-op4jxthey were great around this year the newer 2000’s and after had major transmission issues it was computer controlled and they had delayed shift or no shift around 120k ish miles
You never see these in the US anymore. Most of them got used up. They used to be all over the place until the mid 2000's. I had a 93 Grand Prix GTP and 92 Lumina Euro Sport Coupe. Both had well over 160k miles and ran great when sold.
Just brought back an interesting memory for me. I remember the Lumina Euros those were pretty cool. That was a weird era for cars cuz they would sneak some interesting stuff in to the mix.
They were officially marketed there by GM Europe, with Euro-spec sealed beam headlights and standard rear fog lights. This one does not seem to be a Euro spec one, with the aero headlights and fog-less rear bumper. So probably an ex-military owned car.
@@the_kombinator We have them in the UK abd they are owned by people who have come over from Europe. I can think of about 10 cars with a pontiac badge in my town.
This, without a doubt, is one of the best RU-vid channels I have found, it motivates me a lot to become a mechanic, a dream that I had already thrown away and now has been revived again. Thank you, thank you and thank you for creating this channel.
I have owned no less than 5 of this generation Grand Prix, including one in this exact color. I was expecting a 2.8 or 3.1, but not the Quad 4. Despite that, I'm not at all surprised it fired up so easy even after sitting in a pond for God knows how long. I've also seen, and owned, rustier Grand Prixs than that 🤣
Or maybe since version 3.1 LHO, you have an upper air filter housing left somewhere? I'm looking all over the world for this part because mine is damaged. I have such a Pontiac in collector's condition. Regards, Adam from Poland
@Helo735 If it worked, it would be something extraordinary. This is very important to me, but so far no one has been able to help. There were a lot of these cars, but they ended up in scrapyards somewhere and no trace of them was lost. I've been looking for it for...several years 😐
I thought that this would definitely be a non starter but you've done it again amazing I'm probably one of your biggest fans in the UK and never miss a video good work 🚙👍
@@samholdsworth420 they are often very reliable, my father had 2 of them and I say, best cars i've driven. this comes from one who's driven old lotus and a ferrari.
Yeah, but then you remember that this is the Flexiny channel. I have yet to see a video of a failed attempt on this channel. Either they don't publish the unsuccessful attempts or they just never fail. Either way, it makes for great content without annoying music and stupid narration.
@@Fred_the_1996what are you smoking? Ecotecs are known to be some of the most reliable 4 cylinder engines. When the Cruz and Trax came out with that awful Opel 1.4T that is around the time everything went to shit.
@@user-ry6uv3og4f - Was it? That car has a US license plate, which tells me that it was imported. Also, no car can be sold here in Europe with the speedometer in mph and the temperature gauge in Fahrenheit.
@@tema9rusame for me. I've always felt like Machinery like cars have a soul. Nothing wants to sit and just rot away. That poor car probably just had the time of its life.
@@ashes2ashes863 When I watch such videos, every time I hope that later this car will be restored to a brilliant condition. I restored one of them. I really love old cars.
Used to work on those 30 years ago. The Quad 4 was always considered an unrefined engine, being rough and noisy. They went pretty good, though. Haven't seen a running one in decades! Of course Flexiny made it run. Looks like the boys had fun driving it too!
Every time I see a notification letting me know that a new video has been uploaded I know that I'm gonna have a good time watching it. As always you did an impecable job and you amazed me again. Your videos are the reason of why I like cracking up old cars that have been sitting for over a decade.
I love watching these old cars being brought back to life. Even if they won't see the road again its still nice to see them get some attention after being forgotten for so long.
I have watched a video of a group of guys racing these cars in a field. Beating the hell out of them. It was interesting to watch. You could tell the SS from the standard Grand Prix's in the race. Though I have never owned a Grand Prix. I did own a 04 Grand Am. I miss that car.
For 14 years now, I have been driving my beloved 1991 BUICK Park Avenue every day, which I restored from junk with my own hands. Greetings from Russia, Voronezh city.
Very cool to see it start up nearly right away after sitting twenty years in a small pond! Just needed a tap on the injectors, wow The poor auto transmission didn't want to shift up from first though and didn't want to reverse, poor thing is probably full of rust inside after sitting so long with no transmission fluid
Good job showing the water line on the wheels and the pattern of vegetation around the parking spot to put away any doubt the car was indeed there for long time.
Ogromnie mnie zaskoczyłeś :))) Mam Pontiaca Grand Prix z 91 roku. Mój jest czerwony z silnikiem 3.1 LHO, w stanie kolekcjonerskim. Miałem też Pontiaca z silnikiem 2.3 Quad4 i skrzynią TH125 . Ten silnik to lekki koszmar i był tylko oferowany przez jeden rok od 90 do 91roku. Pozdrawiam . Adam Z Polski
I'm impressed about the ignition system with module and coil built as a rail direct over the plugs. here in germany the former GM division Opel had at this point a separate coil with distributor and wires to the plugs. back then the ignition of the 2.3L in the Pontiac was really progressive.
Another amazing Video. Great Rescue. Kinda impressed that this Thing runs and drives in this condition. I mean, that subframe Looks like Brown Chips. 🤣 keep going. Please never stop making this Videos! So satysfying! Big thumbs up from germany! 💪✌️
A lot of used American cars are bought at auction and shipped to Eastern Europe and Africa. A lot of totaled Teslas ended up in Ukraine, the original owners finding out because the car was never removed from their apps.
@@manitoba-op4jx wrecked cars nobody else besides scrap yards want are pretty cheap... @@gabesmath105 that's exactly the recipe for rust, soaked in water for days. Then got dried by sun causing a humid environment under and inside the car.
Best way to extract and load the vehicle, I did think for a second it was going to get a lowered roof by the machine bucket 🤣 great revival, and it went well down the rally stage 👍
I had no idea there was a 4 cylinder option for these. My dad had a 1995 he bought it brand new and it came with the 3100 v6. He kept it for 10 years and put 130,000 miles on it before selling it to his cousin in 2005.
Разве это размарадёрена? У нас в России от неё за пару лет остался бы только голый кузов, который чуть позже сожгут и оттащат в чермет. Is it possible to call it "looted"? In Russia, in a couple of years, only a bare hull would remain of it, which would later be burned and put into scrap metal.
I had one of those as a hire car back in 2004 on the west coast, it was the 2 door version though (monte carlo) absolute boat of a car 😂 well done on getting that one going again 👌😂
When I was a kid working at my Dads shop I worked on a bunch of those Quad 4 engines. They had the water pump drive off the timing chain and was a pain to change out. They had all kinds of head gasket issues as well.
The Euro spec ones are a bit different... I saw some of this body style in Switzerland and they had those tiny quad sealed beam headlights seen in later sedans (and late 80s Chevy trucks). This one is definitely US spec since it has a big MPH speedometer. Euro spec would be like Canada with big Km/h.
