The earth or ground layer is key. It hides the construction layers beneath and is the first scenery layer to be modelled. My favourite product is tile grout; it comes in many different earth tones, is easy to apply and very robust. It can easily be used for terrain for wargaming if you use a dropper bottle of white glue too.

Kathy a couple of years ago I came across a heap of what is known as road scrapings it is what comes from a road plane I ran it through a number tea strainers etc and tights to get the various grades down to dust. It is ideal for areas in yards etc looking like dark ash a couple of buckets full will keep me going for a life time

I am just finding your RU-vid channel and enjoy very much the information you provide. One quick question, in the Starting Scenery Essential Earth video you mention using a "snow and ice" sieve. I would like to buy one and have search online diligently without success. I am hoping you might be able to provide a link or other information about where to find one. Thanks in advance.

How do you spray the alcohol without it blowing all the stuff off your working area? Seems like no matter how far away I am when I spray most of my ground layer, dirt, sand, or whatever gets blown all over the place.
@KathyMillatt
@KathyMillatt 4 года назад
I spray from a height and let it rain down on the earth. The trick is finding a fine spray that moistens the surface without disturbing it.

Take a look, ive just launched a new 'mini scenes series' to the channel with the first moorlands diorama featured. Plenty more coming up with a bundle of ideas to create realistic scenery. Tim.

hiya, i have been watching ur videos over the past few months and i really like them very helpfull. however i really really liked the 3D resin prints u did of the dinoric slate wagons. i was wondering if u could maybe update us on how there going, what wheels u use by what manufacturer ur gonna be using on them, also how to paint them and weather, even adding couplings. it would make a great video. finally do u know what scale or the wagons are, will the fit on oo9 1:76 ? thank you, jordan
@KathyMillatt
@KathyMillatt 4 года назад
Jordan. I am working behind the scenes on that layout so it will eventually make a video. The wagons are from Thingiverse and you can print them or I did buy some from Shapeways if you can’t print them. They are OO9, 1:76 and my big decision is double flanged wheels or not.
@KathyMillatt

I haven’t decided on couplings as that’s a head ache. I’m used to Kadees but they’re not appropriate here.

Glue spreads better in sanded grout but the UK doesn’t really label sanded v unsanded. Thin layers aren’t really an issue but if your glue isn’t sinking in then add some sand.
