In today’s video we rebuild the carb and start the boat for the first time! Next video should be either testing it on the water or finishing up the back end decking.
You did good by buying a genuine Mikuni rebuild kit. I rebuilt mine using a cheep kit from Amazon and no matter what I did I could not get it to run right. I bit the bullet an bought the OEM ones and it runs great. Most people bypass the oil injection in favor of pre-mix. It can foul the plugs though. Of course your results may very.
@@broccolirob5085 I wondered about that. My outboard has lies that run to the bearings. My Yamaha 701 has the oil injection blocked off. Maybe they have different designs. IDK.
@@Ethos_Island I had a Yamaha 125 that had oil injection. The hose running to the pump cracked and wasn’t working. This caused the motor to burn up. It was only a year old. After that I am very suspicious of their reliability.
The gas/oil you mixed for the spray bottle is really dark, looks like it has way too much oil. That combined with the pool of oil that was in the engine might have fouled out the plugs. The engine needs very little oil without a load, if you're going to add oil to the sprayer measure it, don't guess, 50:1 will be plenty. The pool of oil is an indication of a likely problem, but if the motor sat for many years it's not necessarily something that needs to be fixed.
@@Ethos_Island That much oil in only a year or two is pretty bad, I was assuming it sat for many years. It won't really hurt anything, but could make it a major pain to start between uses. There's a chance it could do major damage from a hydrolock, but probably not. If you like it once it's been water tested it would probably be worth fixing. Some people install shut-off valves on the hoses to get by, just gotta remember to open them before cranking it. When you're testing on a garden hose make sure to tell your helper to stop the water as soon as the engine stalls. If you're turning the engine off have them close the water first.
