We raised rabbits many years ago. The rabbit cages were in an open stall in the barn. All went well til the coyotes found them. The wire was strong enough on the bottom of the cages that they couldn't tearit open, but the coyotes ate the feet off the young rabbits through the wire because their little feet could get through the wire. We put a gate on the stall so the coyotes couldn't get in and that solved the problem.
I remember salvaging the parsley and leftover salad greens for the neighbor rabbits Buck and Mary when I was 4-5 years old. Ellen the neighbor lady made me a rabbit hand muff one year... Years later I realized why we weren't allowed to get friendly with the other cages...
Don't throw away that tape measure yet. You can buy a replacement tape for them. The secret is "don't" take it apart. Pull the tape all the way out to the end, then wiggle it around until you get the spring to come out just a short way, and you'll see how it's connected. Place new tape on the spring and carefully let it go back in, now it has a second life.
Looks like a grand bunny hutch. Hopefully it will be all done soon before they arrive. Rabbit meat is good but I haven't eaten any for a long time. Hi Whatt. Till next time.
My dad built a hutch for rabbits we received for Easter, one year. It looked much like your hutch, Anthony. The only problem was that either the rabbits or the dog could open the latch on the doors. The rabbits would get out. The dog would start chasing them. The rabbits would be crying at the tops of their lungs, and the dog would be barking at the top of his lungs -- all this at 6:00 in the morning. Didn't make the neighbors very happy. Needless to say, the rabbits went to live with a farmer, and we never again had rabbits.
Hello, that hutch look great. Things are definitely looking up there. Every thing finding a place . Good job. Now you can Rest and go eat prepared for the Wekend Event. Have a wonderful time. Blessings
We had meat rabbits when I was a youngster. My mom told us. " you can make pets out of the adults. But not the babies." We were encouraged to handle the babies for the first month. So they wouldn't freak out when picked up. After that we just let them grow. That made processing easier on rabbits and kids.
I grew up on a farm and my job was to feed the rabbits and clean their cages once a week. Rabbit is very tasty!! My Dad built hutches that look very much like yours...well done, Anthony...😊🐇
Tame rabbits taste a little different than the wild rabbit, just from what they eat. They’re still good, but wild rabbits do taste a little better than tame ones.😇 I love the Hutch❤️😇
@babydollleach I've only ever eaten farm rabbits (I would not have called them "tame!" They were always trying to bite, scratch, and kick me when I was feeding them or cleaning their hutches!! LOL LOL), but they were very tasty!! 😆 🐇🐇😆 I'm sure my Dad had wild rabbits when he was growing up...he grew up during the depression and the family story is that he went hunting everyday and whatever he got went into the pot for supper...I'm sure there had to be rabbit on the menu...
@@theresakellogg4431 yeah it doesn’t matter if they bite or not, it’s because they’re raised in a pin and fed differently than one that roams in the wild is why they’re called tame rabbits.😇 Also, my daughter is getting ready to get her a couple of females or males, and building them a pin on the ground with a run, so they can play on the ground in grass. Lol She lives in a Subdivision with 1/2 acre land that’s actually restricted from farm animals, but she says they’re all not farm animals, they’re pets like her dogs and cats. 😂 She has 4 Dogs, 4 Cats, 15 Chickens, 5 Ducks, and is wanting Rabbits and a Goat for Milk for her daughter 😂🤣😇
I would very much like to be able to do jobs that require physical strength. Unfortunately I can do very little, because my health currently does not allow me (working on that). I think that's why I enjoy watching videos of people building their own houses and homesteads so much. Have an excellent weekend!
Great spot for the rabbit hutch. So exciting. Rabbits are easy to take care of at least that’s what I remember as a kid. Good luck. Can’t wait. Have a great weekend✌️🇺🇸❤️🐇
pretty fancy rabbit hutch ours when we were kids was wire cages seperated with a bedding area on the back for the mommas and their babies with the bedding with old hoods off of cars to keep the rain out our rabbits all done fine
going to be nice hutches but would be even better with a bottom run & a ramp added for each rabbit to be able to have room to roam about on the ground, they would really have the best then x
Roxanne, I just have to tell you, you are sooo freaking cute my friend.🤗 Anthony, you crushed it on the rabbit hutch!! Kudos to you my friend. You guys have done such a good job on the build. Love you all♥
Hey Roxanne, put egg shells in your garden to get more calcium for the plants. I actually pulverized mine after dehydrating to use on food for my bones.
I really like that rabbit hutch or whatever it's called! That looks great! I am excited to see how many chicks hatch! So much going on there! Thank you for taking me along! I love y'all!
It's great to see you both outside and working. You sure do get a lot of rain this time of year....so lucky. Was really interested watching you make your rabbit hutches. Now you just need the bunnies. Thanks for the bonus vlog, what a great way to start my Saturday.
Hi Anthony & Roxanne, so exciting to be adding more animal to your homestead. Those hens sound Possessed😂. I have never hear hens do that. They mean business.😂 Don’t touch.🤬😡😳😵💫. That’s going to be an awesome rabbit mansion 😊. Take care😊 Until next time.❤
I have a mini Rex rabbit that is pampered with heat and ac. She lives in the house. I am going to make her a vacation hutch for in the garden while I clean her indoor cage.♥️🇺🇲
So Gary and Mel must have encouraged you to get rabbits also. Gary built a beauty of a hutch for their rabbits. Hope yours turns out as nice! 🤗 Rabbits are so cute and fluffy! 🐰 We had several rabbits a while back before we moved, but not for food. My hubby built a Taj Mahal hutch for them. Even added many DIY extras. A pull-out tray on the bottom helped with cleaning the dung 'pellets'. It was beautiful. 😊
Looks like it's going to be a very NICE rabbit hutch for sure. YUK RAIN RAIN GO AWAY COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY COUNTRY ROAD CURE WANT'S TO PLAY LOLOL. Break time thank you for another great video...God Bless and stay DRY!!!
Good moring, well its had begin rainy and cold for the last days. They say sunday no rain therefore comeing up monday the rain is comeing back. Well i am going to get back under the cover. And get weam up. You and Anthony have a Bless Day. .. And days comeing up. You yall be Bless..
@Country Road Cure Looking great ya'll! Curious to know if you plan to build the roof with an overhang to keep the sideway rains from blowin in on the rabbits so much?
On your decorations around your yard, that the paint is going away, repaint with different colors or the same. They well turn out really nice. Love them all in the yard!!!
Put a tarp under your rabbits for easy cleaning possibly funneled into a bucket if not the manure attracts maggots under the pen. The does will need nest boxes to rest thir feet from the wire.
At your store you can get those small round salt licks for birds ,tie one in each pen for the rabbits especially the does, triangles are female and mushrooms are males when checking who is what make sure you separate the sons from mom before 6 mths as they can breed by then. When breeding always place doe in bucks cage as she can be really territorial in her pen. Fyi a doe can be double bred if that happens she will loose both litters.
Remember to reinforce the bottom of the two sides for the moms to be strong enough to have the birthing boxes in there. You will also need another hutch split in two sections to grow the babies after weening. One for males and one for females. You two are doing awesome. Great love from Snowflake Arizona.
Not sure if anyone has commented this yet, have you thought to add a tray system to under the rabbits to easily catch and be able to take the rabbit droppings to your compost or directly into your garden??
Anthony my husband rolls up electrical cords like that also. One time a lady in his office thought he was being mean tying it up that way as she called it and he said, o you just shake it and it falls out again. He had to demonstrate what he was talking about.
Just put in leaves and branches in the chicken compost and stir it. The 🐰 poo just put in a bucket and put in your garden. I'm not found of eating rabbits. Chicken & Turkeys it what we grew plus Slovakia ducks for blood soups inlaws were Polish. Hopefully everything works out for you all.
Rox, if you want to make chicken happier, plant marigolds and berries close to the fence so they can pick the fruit off, and the love eating marigolds, just don't plant to many of it keeps bugs away
Roxanne, i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but remember when your parents told you they stewed up a squirrel...😂😅🐰🐇 . Love the hutch, and its a "buck and does"..
