Your space is begging for a ROUND table! If not that, run your rectangular table PARALLEL to the beams to allow for more room near the sink.

For your hospital bag, I would focus less on what you “think” you need and more on what will make you feel comfortable & taken care of. The hospital supplies a ton of necessities. I included a lot of favorite snacks, comfy sleep dresses, & my essential grooming supplies. Anything that helps you feel human as you go through such a big change is necessary ❤

Also if the delivery goes well without complications you won't be there that long. Most hospitals send you home far faster than what used to happen.

And of course if she has a baby naturally and even if she has good insurance women and babies that are doing well go home really quick and a lot so there’s no reason to bring a month worth of clothes or stuff to the hospital just the necessities and as Daniela says something that makes you feel comfortable because they’re gonna take care of the baby take care of yourself❤

An off-centered table would drive me crazy. I agree with all the comments above: table with a leaf to keep it centered on the daily or running lengthwise. Whatever you decide, it's sure to be beautiful!

I just saw that others commented the same thing, but my first thought was that the table needs to run parallel with the beams. It flows better with the walk space. I really think you would enjoy this layout and the flow, plus it makes the space feel grander. Also, with kids you are going to want the extra “room” to move around.

Love how this is shaping up but I really think the table needs to be aligned long-ways with the beams, otherwise the way you are positioning it now cuts off the walk-thru flow of the room. Could do a table with three chairs on each side but no end chairs to help with walking space.

Going back to Love Language, Words of Affirmation are more than compliments. It’s reassurance, reassurance that your partner is choosing you, not only physically but emotionally. Its reassurance that whatever storm you weather, its a together thing, you’re never alone. Those of us who suffer from anxiety or a checkered romantic past need those words because it’s not always easy. Especially when you’ve been made to feel like you aren’t worthy or are undeserving of love. Compliments are nice, but words of affirmation are another level of love.

Mother of four here - not ONE of them took a pacifier! Even the one who was born pretty premature spit it out with mighty force! So I do wish you luck with it - I always envied other mums with the magical tool to stop the screams.... For the table problem: maybe a big round one, beautifully centered on normal days, but expandable for the family and friends gatherings? The added bonus in my opinion would be with the then extended oval table that you can sit easily two people on both headsides not just one. And in daily life with kids you gain more moving space - and more fun chasing your toddler in a circle round and round..... Love from Bavaria!

Same. I am breastfeeding him and he refuses any pacifier except when there's a teething phase going on. Then he will bite at a paci aggressively. Doesn't like the teething toys you put in the fridge

I agree with Romeo - there’s a difference between thrift stores, consignment shops, and second hand boutiques. Mainly pricing and luxury vs non-luxury and higher end items. 😊

Just get an acrylic or glass top for the top of the dresser. You’ll find that esthetic takes a back seat once baby arrives. So happy for you both.

I also thought I was going to be a beige mom, but there was a 0% chance I was going to actually be one once my little angel was born 🤣 maybe you’l be able to pull it off, but my baby girl loves colors and patterns and I can’t stop her lol. I think the patterns and colors stimulate their brain and encourage creativity.

I'm sure you're getting deluged with baby suggestions; but I had to share my #1 favorite thing; it's called a Boppy. It's a pillow shaped like a crescent that fits around your stomach or side that you use to help hold the baby when you are nursing or feeding him. You can also use it to prop him up in when he's a little older or he can lie on his stomach. But it was a godsend to have when feeding because as light as they are; they get pretty heavy after 20+ minutes of holding them at a certain angle. Just don't leave him unattended on it.

you really don’t need a changing table lmao i don’t have kids but i lived with my nieces when they were born and we always changed them on the bed with reusable/washable pads underneath it worked perfectly fine. it’s much more comfortable that way any way than having to stand at the changing table

bring your skincare to the hospital even if it's only the basics. Hospitals are VERY dry. you're going to need it. also i've seen a bunch of "what's in my hospital bag" videos. I think the best advice i've seen for (especially) a new momma is bring whatever will make you feel at ease and content and safe even if you "over pack"

I totally see your vision for the table and I personally think off center to the beams is fine because it will probably look centered to the back wall, which you look onto when you come in. Also I live just looking at a table having it be the center of a place and the life around it. Whatever you decide in the end will look amazing, I am sure. You could get an extendable table so its not a tight fit everyday and you can deal with it being off centre for a big function when fully extended.

Abby, from a Drill and a Dream, used masking tape to mark out the floor where her kitchen cabinets and furniture were going to go so she could walk around them. This gave her a sense of perspective rather than just imagining it in the space. I thought that was such a good idea.

Definitely go length wise with your table. The cabinets on the back wall go width wise so you need opposite with the table to achieve balance. IMO

I almost never used the changing table for all 3 kids as it was upstairs so I used the floor most of the time. I’m so enjoying your kitchen remodel; it’s going to be beautiful. There is one spot in the video that I had to watch multiple times…when you were opening the changing pad and Kingsley was so close and it looked like Kinsley got bopped in the face with the box flap. Sorry Kingsley but I couldn’t help laughing.

Macenna, First, Thank you for always taking the time to do these videos. I know it’s a lot of work and you never ever disappoint. So, again, thank you. Second, I wanted to mention something that totally changed my days when we had newborns. We had the space to set up a changing station in the bathroom. It was so so so so so so nice to have the sink there and the extra space in the drawers and such. It just made for an excellent space that made our days so much easier than having the main changing space in a room. Obviously, just a thought and please excuse me for not remembering if you would have the room for it in your own bathroom. Lastly, you look absolutely stunning. ❤

What about putting the table lengthwise (centered under beam furthest from sink)?. Remember, you can't measure just the length of table because each end will have a chair. So you don't want the chair up against the sink.

I love home decor but I am mainly a thrift shopper. However I have a small yearly budget where I buy 2 decorating/coffee table books and a few small decor items. Last year I used some of the savings to buy an Auden Leur candle and I have not regretted it! It’s part of my self care routine. Thank you for the lovely scents MC!!

A tip from a daycare worker that changes 20+ diapers a day, changing a baby which is laying horizontal to me quickly hurts my back. I find it wayyy easier when they are facing me vertically! 💕 so excited for your little one

When buying lighting for the kitchen, you should always bear in mind that the more detailed the light (e.g. made of crystal), the more difficult it is to clean. Even with an extractor hood, grease and dirt accumulate very quickly and it is extremely difficult to remove the sticky residue from any non-flat surfaces.

My question is; why didn’t you immediately (let the workers) made the doorway into the same shape as you have in the lobby room (entrance) with this total renovation. Because then you would have the semi-circular sides, instead of having to make this again yourself?!

Thinking out loud here, what if!!!! You go with a circular table & light? It sounds like a unicorn find but I’ve seen a few soild oak antique claw foot tables with single & double leaf!!! You could expand anytime you need and shift over, but for everyday use you can keep small & centered. Also dreaming of some larger antique head chairs mixed with some charming vintage chairs. Manifesting all the things for you!!!! ❤ (your light should always mimic the shape of your table, they say) rules don’t apply when you follow your ❤ can’t wait to end results!!

Omg I’m so excited! And at my age I’m very humbled to learn that “Your affirmations” is not what you do for others but it’s about what you receive! I read that wrong for years, but I love understanding it now! I always thought it was about what and how I did for others and not how I received it. Enlightening. Love y’all and happy for you, just sad I misunderstood all these year, lol…feeling silly but loving yall!

Don’t feel silly,I’m not sure that you were wrong. I remember Dawn (The Minimal Mom) and her sister discussing this and her sister said that her “Love language” was gifts,as in ,she showed her love to others by buying and making and wrapping gifts for them. (Who knows,it’s just something someone made up and I have not read the book,but when I googled the blurb on it,it mentions about how you give and receive love. So maybe it’s both?) The interesting thing is when you look up the word “affirmation” in the dictionary,one of the definitions is: To show or express a firm belief in or dedication to something . Their Example: “Laws affirming the racial equality of all people.” 🤷🏼‍♀️

My little Slavic Grandma always had her dining room light hung on a chain so it could swag if the table was enlarged and the center was moved. Maybe center your box on the ceiling buy a table that has leaves with an apron and keep the leaves out most of the time and when needed bring out the leaves (because leaves with aprons don't store in the table) and swag the light only the few times a year when the table is off center.

I didn't use hardly anything in my hospital bag for my first babe. So with the next two babies I hardly packed anything that people say you should. For me less was less fuss and stress.

I think get the size of table you need and then play around with the light! I know you're heading in the chandelier route, but if you get a pendant light you can always swag it over.

I agree with Romeo - there’s a difference between thrift stores, consignment shops, and second hand boutiques. Mainly pricing and luxury vs non-luxury and higher end items.

Hospital bag: For you: dressing gown, cozy socks (hospitals can be cold) and button up PJ top for breastfeeding; post-birth disposable panties; breast pads; feeding bra; outfit for when you leave; Blackthorn Berry Elixir (for breastfeeding and your energy levels); snacks; toiletries. For baby: Will your hospital be supplying a bag of goodies? Find out if they do and what’s in it. You at least need maternity pads; newborn nappies; wipes; bum cream; clothes for baby including mittens and hats; receiving/swaddling blankets; spit up cloths; I’m sure there are a few more little things I’ve forgotten. My kid is 9. Love that you I got that changing pad. I saw it online recently too and it looks amazing. Maybe a round or oval table? Easy to add extra chairs to if needed, and to walk around. Can’t remember what the floor plan looks like. Mark out the table size available on the floor with chalk.
