My thesis short back in college right before the pandemic hit. It was an official selection for the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival and a Remi Winner in 2020. I struggled to find time to improve the piece after graduating, but after 3 years its time to stop kidding myself.
A narrative short sci-fi film reminiscent of Black Mirror that is set in a dystopian parallel world where Police A.I. interrogates innocent people for unsupported crimes. Mason Yamashii is interrogated by a cyborg A.I. 042, who is seeking a murder conviction and pinning the blame of his lover Kent. It is inspired by the Japanese legal system where they follow a “guilty until proven innocent” mindset. The project aims to address the issue of surveillance and rise of security in technology.
