Great job guys! Ryan and Ty are just so amazing live, Evan has always been super great live, Derek also did a great job but my guy needs a REAL REST TIME bro. As a vocalist myself, I think you need to take a week off or two and have a voice rest. Love you guys always! ♥️🌐 Btw, LOVE THE NEW ALBUM! 🤘 Love from the PH 🇵🇭
I love you since 2013 and The Finer Things. You guys sound great as a trio. But lets be real, you need a rythym guitarist. Im 32, millenial, and punk pop fueled, hit me up.
@@JedidiahBertram it wasn’t a practice issue, it was the worst mix I’ve almost ever heard. Fucking guitar was hiding from the drums the entire performance
derek changes color throughout the video lol for the end quality of the vid derek still killed, ty was flawless, Evan is in the pocket, and Ryan makes me so hype to watch this
Sad cause Derek was the king of pop punk vocals but it was SO unhealthy for his voice and led to that vocal hemorrhage. It'll take a while for him to get back sounding great in his new safe vocal path, the fact he's even up singing these songs on tour so soon after that takes so much work and dedication.
They need to get the replacement ordeal figured out. I know they don’t want to have the touring guitarist “part of the band “ but it definitely feels like something is missing
@StateChampsNY You guys got the rhythm guitars on backing tracks and some production stuff like BGVs and some DJ scratch etc. Sounds good and definitely fills out the sound!
I seriously did steal my own self control by listening to this song so much cuz I involuntarily start headbanging during the second half of the bridge of secrets every time. STATE CHAMPS OF SHAKIN ASS BABY!!!!!!
This was a fucking great show guys!! One of my favourite bands ever! Derek should look after his vocal chords tho...sounds kinda unhealthy and long term damage would be so sad :(
It’s hard when your the only vocalist. Day in and day out. His style of singing is very energetic and alot of power behind it. Probably because he started in a screamo band I believe. Doesn’t matter tho their music is awesome. Everyone is musically talented in the band.
@@samiel1014 Just on frozen in particular, he's out of tune and his voice cracks during some parts, but he also does a lot with his voice that he doesn't in the recording or even in any other live performances I've seen of the song
You'd think with such a controlled environment the mix would be better. Absolutely wasted the stereo overheads. With all those mics ironically the only thing you can hear from the drums is the kick sample
This feels weird man. I love them but Dereks vocals are sounding like he's constantly out of breath, they also don't really work well as a 4 piece in this case even with a backing track.
He puts so many lyrics in a vocal line that he makes his parts more challenging than most. I practice to this dude almost every day and it's just lyrics on top of lyrics. What they write in and of itself leaves very little room for breathing.
Ever since they came back playing shows post-pandemic i noticed how much Derek's voice sounded shredded af. I thought it just needed time to heal but still sounds rough )): I hope he can get it back sounding nice and healthy
@@XchuggsX With a quick look it seems sometime between 23rd October 2018 (Glasgow) and 16 April 2019 (Unify) something happened vocally. The earliest I found from 2019 are Unify, assuming the upload date is the same as the date it happened, and the change is night and day. I'd say.. doing all that while having vocal troubles may have caused long lasting damage. I was hoping with some of the songs on the new album that he was recovering somewhat.. and at times it's pretty good but it's not the same. Bert from The Used and now Derek. Not only that Bon Jovi, Axel Rose etc all not doing well. Would be nice to identify to help others not fall in to the same issues. But if you listen to those Unify gigs it doesn't just sound like it does now it sounds like his vocal chords are being shredded right on that stage. Then he's still doing it in June.. and as it turns out unify happens in January. So for January to June he is doing that to his vocal chords. Sad thing about the pressures of the industry. He needed a good break and to make sure he was 100% again. It seems like he kept going or maybe there is something otherwise entirely up and it's also someone's health so you don't want to be too inqusitive but inevitably we as listeners end up hearing the results of it. I just hope he continues to get better because compared to 2019-2021 he's sounding better albeit with all the cracking there are moments where he hits some good passages but maybe he in the past was able to get away with poor technique but there are a lot of questions I don't know the answer too only himself and his vocal coach and an ent can tell you.
it sucks cause he mentioned in their barstool interview that he took quarantine to “re-learn” how to sing and get some coaching, but i think singing the way he did for so many years just fucked his voice long term
Rolling Stone sorry but please hire a new producer this mix is so poor - i've seen state champs live twice and they sound unreal and this sounds dreadful
