Hello all! This is just a quick update on where I am with the channel and some of the changes that might be coming soon. Nothing too big is changing, but hopefully just enough for me to be able to get more content out for the channel on a regular(ish) basis. Expect the next Napoleon episode in the next week or two. Thanks! Edit: Patreon is live now. Poll is up now to set membership fee. Here's the link - www.patreon.com/HistoricallyAdequate

Have you thought about adding citations to your history videos? The videos and the listing of sources are already great but using citations would help increase their credibility.

I have and it's a very good a idea. Unfortunately it's a bit too late for the Napoleon and FR vids, but for any new series going forward I'd like to have a little [3] show on screen and correspond to a given source

A little message to wish you the best in 2024 and congratulate you for all the exceptional work so far. Yours are probably the best in-depth videos about the French Revolution and Napoleonic Era I've seen so far - and that's including all French channels. Félicitations et bonne année !!

I’ll definitely subscribe to patreon. You’ve given me so much knowledge and enjoyment. I’ve watched everything you’ve uploaded, and rewatch them at work, to sleep, and to solidify my understanding. You are without a doubt my favorite history channel. Much better than these channels that compress the entirety of the French Revolution into a 43 minute speed run with bad jokes and ego driven self aggrandizement peppered in. Your lack of umming and ahhing with weird tangents makes your videos so digestible. Okay enough ass kissing. Just wanted you to know how much I love this channel. Consider uploading to Apple Podcasts as well please!

Wishing you a late Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year brother! From a general view of the channel I had guessed that you'll specialise in French history only, but the plans you've put forth are quite elaborate. Seems like you want to cover as much of modern European history as possible, which will be a really good thing to happen. You talked about not using ads from popular games, but in my opinion, you should advertise everything which you can and pocket the few bucks coming along. Your channel is exclusively educational, and the audience here is mature enough to understand how difficult it is to create this content, moreso after this video. Apart from Patreon, you should have some mode for people to make One-Time donations. The delays in uploads are totally understandable. I had said this before too, that you are doing a great service to history, and our past and future generations. This is more than content creation. Take your time. That's it. Best of luck for all your future endeavours!

Happy New Year and greetings from 2 PM 2023 in Poland, unlike you our New Years Eve is yet to come as I write this message. I am through your magnificent series about French Revolution and now I am watching in the scraps of the free time I have your videos about Napoleon (probably this will accelerate during summer break in college as I plan to go to work in court archives there, where there is plenty of opportunities to watch your videos). It's really interesting and thought provoking how basically a good Jacobin climbs chaotic echelons of social ladder to restore a monarchy again. And about Haiti and worries about political correctness of it, in my opinion people deserve well researched and factually accurate narration, where truth understood as "it is what it is" based on evidence is told. If we want to learn from history about the world and ourselves (by doing thought experiments and learning how different people from different backgrounds with different values, personalities etc. reacted to different situations and putting as in those asking what would we do in those), it's essential that we fascinated by past know most about it, seeing how complicated the history is and how basically even now we shape in some extent the world that is yet to come. I admire your dedication to this despite not much of free time, keep up the good work and I wish life treats you well in 2024 and beyond. And about Haiti, I did not came to this video yet, but I admire my countrymen from Polish Legions who were really believing in fighting for "freedom ours and yours" (despite the slogan being phrased in this way about thirty years later), for disobeying orders given by French and helping Haitians to gain independence and fight slavery. It's a shame it's not that commonly known fact.

Happy to hear all this, thank you! We're of the same mind it seems. You might be happy to know there's going to be quite a bit of talk about Poland in the next few episodes of the Napoleon series, so there's that to look forward to

Hope you enjoyed your Christmas and are ready for the New Year! You’re doing amazing! I have never seen so much dedication and your presentation is just downright therapeutic, especially for long car rides. I have been studying Napoleon all my life and it’s relaxing to revisit material and be presented new ones as well. You clearly have an understanding of just how tremendous his life and his ambition was.

Man I love your content. I stumbled upon it in 2023, and I've found it so refreshing to find entertaining and straightforward historical content. Some questions or points. If you're going to turn this into an economic endeavor, consider other avenues than Patreon. I'm not really a fan of Patreon, but a similar service from a different provider might not bother me. I don't know if you have any ideas about Twitch but with something like that i imagine some of your viewers might do prime memberships. I'm a ludite on all of this though. Ideally I'd want the channel to remain completely advertiser free but i also realize that might gimp it in the algorithm. You just do such fine work and I hate the idea of that advertising crap.
@historicallyadequate2500
@historicallyadequate2500 9 месяцев назад
Thank you, glad you're liking! Honestly it hasn't occurred to me to use another provider but why not? I suppose i just defaulted to the only one I know. Not sure about Twitch tbh, I've never used it and it seems like it's mostly for games. RU-vid already has livestreams anyway, we'll see what happens. I feel you with the advertising. I hate it too, that's why I wanted to do this quick update and just set some ground rules. Without getting too carried away I think things will be fine with ads though - just the usual RU-vid ones (which can be blocked anyway) and maybe some sponsorships. I don't intend to go career with this so I have a lot of leeway to to say no stuff I don't like/support.

I am looking forward to sponsoring you. From my experience watching a lot of history-related videos on YT, your content is an order of magnitude higher quality than so-called 'similar' channels. You stick with the intellectual side of events versus the flashy, garish youtuber style. You respect the viewers intelligence. It's clear you put in a lot of work to produce these videos. Every week or so, I check your channel to see if I missed any new videos. Not sure what your other work is, but I can say that you have a gift here and if you can keep it up, I will be very happy as I've learned a lot from you. On top of that, your richly detailed videos are badly needed for the audience on this platform. I worry about the sensational content on the same topics and what that does to society's understanding of the past. So sponsoring you will help fulfill my selfish craving to know the deep details of events, but also provide a public good at the same time. Sign me up.

Excellent, hopefully it'll all be ready soon, and thank you for the kind words! I very much agree about the prevailing sensationalism of RU-vid history content. Plenty of little dark age edits of Napoleon, not a lot of nuanced takes

Thank you so much for the Channel! There are many others who cover the same topic but none of my knowledge are equal. Epic history is not as in depth and the same to other podcasts. Also thank you so much for the pronunciation! There is a podcast out there that made me quit my subscribing just due to the pronuciation of Bagartion alone. You take the extra step to say thing properly, and present things in a professional manner.

Thanks for the kind words, means a lot! I feel the same way about pronunciations too. Not sure I'll be any good when we get into Russian places and names so I'll be sticking with the anglicised pronunciations rather than get things wrong

I'm not a regular of your channel, having just discovered a video, but something you said struck me : that you intend to cover French history in general. Looking at your videos, I had assumed that it was a Revolution/Empire channel, for fans of this time period. If you intend to cover much more, shouldn't you make that clear already by offering a more varied content, letting people interested by French history in general know that your channel could be of general interest for them? For instance, despite the quality of your channel, after checking your content I had no intent of keeping track of it, due to its apparent specialized nature, and it's only after randomly watching this video out of curiosity that I'm discovering that you don't intend to only post videos about the French revolution and Napoleon, and that I'm considering keeping an eye on your channel. Also, aren't you afraid that when you'll be finished with covering extensively and in detail the French revolution and empire, and will switch to another theme, you might lose your current followers, presumably specifically interested in these subjects, as they won't have any hope of seeing new videos about their favorite topic? Couldn't this result in your channel being successively followed by a small crowd of Napoleon fans, then by a small crowd of Medieval France fans, then by a small crowd of WWI fans, etc...? Note that I do appreciate and prefer an approach where you cover a subject extensively and then only go onto the next topic, but if you now intend to make your channel into your main source of income, shouldn't you make sure that it will stay attractive over time for a wider audience? Edited to add : only after I finished watching the video I noticed that you didn't intend to restrict yourself to French history. My points still stand.
@historicallyadequate2500
@historicallyadequate2500 7 месяцев назад
Very good points well stated. I'll start by saying that I don't intend to make a career out of this, the idea with Patreon and such is that I might be able to work reduced hours and so produce more content regularly. As for what content I produce, at the moment it is entirely French stuff so I can understand the confusion about what the channel is actually about. At the moment any non-French history is aspirational. I have a few partial scripts on other topics mentioned but no content yet for the specific reason that my time is limited so I'll focus on one series at a time. Am I worried about people leaving the channel? No, not really. Ultimately I make what I make because it interests me, not because it's what my audience wants. Besides the different topics I have covered and intend to cover do link up a fair amount so there will be an overlap of interests (Someone into Napoleonic history being into Prussian history seems likely). At the end of the day though it's up to the individual viewer/subscriber whether they want to stay or go, I'll just keep making videos and hope for the best Thanks again for the thoughtful comment, have good one!

Thank you for the update. I hope you do not feel too unduly pressured to spit out videos at a great pace for the sake of satiating your audience. As far as I am concerned, good content comes in good time, and like a good french onion soup, is best slow cooked and appreciated at a relaxed pace.
