Staten Island Railway: New R211S Single Tracking & Partial Open Action at Richmond Valley

Here we see the R211S performing both Single Tracking Operation and Partial Open Operations. This station is shorter and cannot accomodate all cars, so trains do not open the last car. For the R211S, these trains are 60 feet each compared to the R44s which are 75 feet per car, so there is one set of doors that do not platform on the 4th car. There was also single tracking trains due to track replacement just north of this station. Enjoy!

Apparently, at Richmond Valley, the operator has 5 inches of room to open all the doors.

Yeah the station is in the middle of nowhere and no one really uses it no point on upgrading it

I see this is similar to LIRR and Metro North with partial cars/doors opened in small platforms. I recall riding on LIRR/Metro North, the conductors would make announcement only front two cars open to the stations. Will MTA make such automated announcement? Also how do conductors open partial doors in new cars R211S? I recall the doors buttons panels are for open/closed only. Not sure how a conductor opens partial doors. Maybe a combination keys?

NGL they need make Richmond valley and some of stations bigger so all doors on R211S can open

As much as that’s a smart investment, They most likely won’t do so unless absolutely necessary.

@@TrainMaster5097 It’s really not necessary. Richmond Valley is literally in the marshes (check the video) and sees a smattering of passengers daily. No great hardship to open only the doors that are needed to let folks on or off. It’s not Times Square.
