Chemistry on Khan Academy: Did you know that everything is made out of chemicals? Chemistry is the study of matter: its composition, properties, and reactivity. This material roughly covers a first-year high school or college course, and a good understanding of algebra is helpful.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

1:47 Both pairs of electrons are actually on top... that's why the hydrogen are angled like that, they're not top and bottom. The only way that would happen is if you were looking at it in a weird way (since it is in 3D space), but the most common way to represent the dot structure is to put both pairs on top.

Differently from what Sal says in 1:10, steam is actually *not* a gas in physics and chemistry, though people equate both in common language. *Steam is a mixture of tiny liquid water droplets with air.*
@niazzzz2139
@niazzzz2139 9 лет назад
Steam is an invisible gas that's generated by heating water to a temperature that brings it to the boiling point. When this happens, water changes its physical state and vaporizes, turning from a liquid into a gas.

Hey, I have a question. You said that at its boiling point (373K), water starts to turn into a gas, but that made me wonder, why is it that a pretty low temperature, water still evaporates (as well as ice actually, that's called sublimation, right?)? To me it doesn't quite fit into the theory addressed in this video. Thanks
@kiran7395
@kiran7395 6 лет назад
Sir, Water actually attains an equilibrium state at 373K (100°C). In this state, the rate of melting of ice and evaporation of water are occurring at same rate. It is in dynamic equilibrium and this temperature is known as boiling point of water
