Static Shock's Powers vs Black Lightning's 

But at what age ? Because they hardly show static at a adult level

Static's name is kind of dead giveaway of how his powers can work - he can certainly ACT like a battery. The 'super conductive magnetism' descript is more to explain how his electromagnetism works; IE his ability to create strong magnetic fields. When he told Pierce that, I think that was him more being a smartass and telling him he's not just reserved to slinging electricity. (But it does confirm he doesn't biologically generate it, he more draws from ambient energy.) But his ability to absorb is shown at very high aptitudes. In the New 52 As one of his stronger feats, he actually absorbs all the energy from a power station and knocks (a least a good portion judging by his apology) New York city out. So it's not at a -small- level as you seemed to imply. As for who's more powerful...Black Lightning may be, because he's older and had more experience. But Static is at LEAST slightly under him; and still developing. There's a lot that shows he gets much stronger as he gets older - New 52 again even shows an alternate timeline version of himself that learned the 'pure energy being' technique (Alkaline) that proves he is CAPABLE of doing so. It's also stated that Static's knowledge of physics rivals Barry Allen...so he KNOWS how to make his powers work for him. Probably more than Jefferson in the longrun. (Especially since he tells him in the Brave and the Bold comic you featured that Lightning was out of his League. It was a cocky statement, but I 100% believe he's got reasons for saying it.) On that note, last thing I have to say is...I wish people would PLEASE stop campaigning to have Static appear on the Black Lightning show. Brave and the Bold did the right thing to show it was a team up between two separate heroes that happened to have similar abilities. Static is not a sidekick. He never has been. He navigated the streets himself and figured out heroing himself while balancing a normal teenage life. That is part of the beauty of the character. And is quite frankly what makes him one of the best superheroes to date. Don't try to ruin that. I want to see him in live action too...but not at that cost.

His powers have the potential to be on par (or even) more powerful than black lightning as an adult, but they never really explore that with static shock.

My guess is that it would depend on which versions of each character are being compared. Most of the time I suspect that the power gradient might go something like Teen Static < Black Lighting < Adult Static.

Also, Static is nowhere near the peak of his powers as he's still a teenager. Whoever wrote that Brave and the Bold book clearly doesn't know a lot about Static.

@@AltFactuals What I stated is canon. Static's abilities are far beyond anything you've stated in this video. Black Lightning is more powerful than Static currently because Static is still a child and nowhere his potential.

Wonder2win I’m not here to argue one of the fact is his ability to absorb energy is not quite the levels that it is for Black lightning. Now I am well aware of how powerful static it is and I even did mention that his potential can possibly exceed black lightning’s but as of right now we do not know that. And if we are including the information we know about black lightning as well he actually has a lot more potential due to the nature of his powers in the energy that he can manipulate. I consider then apples and oranges anyways.

@@Wonder2win Okay, so the thing about this is that the Brave and the Bold statement isn't wrong. It's a technicality on how their powers work. Black Lightning is more of a battery; he stores electricity then discharges it in the way that he sees fit. Simple enough. Static is a super conductor. In layman's terms he EASILY draws in electricity and ambient electromagnetism and this is what makes his magnetic fields so STRONG. It's how super conductor electromagnets function. None of this means that one has more storing capacity than the other - that's kind of hard to gauge based on what little we have. It's all just explanation for how their powers operate (Hence why I said in my earlier comment it came across to me as more of a smartassy remark from Virgil) My basis for saying that Static has got to be at least close to Pierce in terms of power is because they have VERY similar feats. And Static KINDA has an edge, because I've seen much more creative use of his powers than I've seen Black Lightning do. And the age kind of makes me also lean farther in Static's direction. Because the majority of what we've seen is him as a kid and adult Static has been reported to be INSANELY strong. And before anyone stops me - no. I do not mean just Animated Static. In Milestone Forever, when Virgil is in his late twenties, Dharma states Virgil hasn't even reached a fraction of his potential, yet he was THE MOST POWERFUL BEING ON EARTH. This is considering Dharma was very well aware of characters like Icon; who is SUPERMAN levels of powerful. So as a kid? Maybe. But in the longrun, definitely not. I don't say all this to shit on Black Lightning by the way. Pierce is a cool character, and he's the OG Electrical Superhero. Gotta give props to that. But Static's been out of the public eye so long, I notice people seem to have trouble putting respect on his name. And the boy don't deserve that. He's not given credit for it...but he truly is one of the baddest heroes ever created.

Well, truth be told comic book companies struggle hard to keep ledgers in the black. Historically and currently, a majority of comic readers have been and continue to be white i.e. they cater more toward hero's they can identify as. Yes there could be more racial diversity in the pages, yes there should be, but also understand it from a business perspective. If the majority of people eat with forks, say 70%, would you base a majority of your money, time, energy and marketing into spoons? It not that people don't want or need spoons, but if the proven model says 70% prefer forks why condemn them and try to force feed spoons into people's mouths? And the whole changing white hero's into black hero's is like the spork, boone really wants that. They want a fork AND spoon. Not some half-ass compromise.

Static as of right now (in terms of full powered comic book versions of the character) isn’t quite their yet. Black Lightning’s abilities have proven to basically be limitless. Static is indeed powerful but he does fatigue and does not of an energy form that would prevent him from fatiguing. Black lightning himself is a genius level intellect, master tactician and has 20+ years of experience on static.

This Static is the one that has just started out heroing and is not the one that we've last seen in comics or even animation. I haven't witnessed fatigued Static in a loooooonnng time, even counting the previously mentioned animated variant (AKA the nerfed one) who; in his final seasons never seemed to reach his limit, but instead just had problems with shorting out. (Which was a weakness made just for that show) The other problem is - and this is the main one I might add- is that you seem to not be comparing Static's and Lightning's feats properly. Yes, Pierce is older. Yes, Pierce has more experience. Yes, Pierce is part of the Justice League - but you really should contrast what they both have done before you reach such a hasty conclusion. Now I will confess: I don't follow Black Lightning to the point I haven't missed a feat or two of his. But I can say with certainty that Static's most insane ones are: Defeated a bang baby with life force stealing powers (Static#43 if anyone is interested) OVERLOADING HER with his own raw electricity, and didn't even break a sweat. Blew up Titans Tower while being a room that SUPPRESSED him, and still had enough charge to give Cyborg feedback in another state, large enough to short him out. He also killed Trigon's Grandson. Granted, his powers were boosted in the Wyld's dimension but given it's the grandson of practically SATAN, the fact he overpowered him is coincidentally 'wild' itself. And I have I ever mentioned that he knocked the fuck out of Holocaust by slamming him repeatedly over the head with a ferris wheel? The SAME Holocaust that was about to kill Lightning in Brave and the Bold before Static intervened and fried him off? Yeah. Black Lightning is definitely no slouch. He also probably has better means of producing amperage. But c'mon dude. I've seen Pierce get riddled with bullets while in the middle of combat - meanwhile Virgil on the other end (Who has even recovered from a worst wound mind you) had a sniper take a potshot at him and Virgil's EM shield deflected the bullet NOT EVEN KNOWING HE WAS BEING AIMED AT. (New 52. Static Shock #1) Despite an age and experience gap and even the fact that Lightning gets more EXPOSURE, Static does a lot of shit that speaks even as a kid he still might be stronger. And I don't think you should let bias or love blind you of that.

@miles tom Except a being that literally houses a power that's about bending electricity to it's will. Electromagnetism guys. It's a superior force to plain old electricity. And before anyone says: _Black Lightning is able to use electromagnetism_ - you can cause electromagnetic phenomena by creating moving charges. Because it's cause and *effect.* It's like how the Flash has control over wind because of his speed that can easily gather air molecules. But compared to someone like say Aang from The Last Airbender - his control over wind is far FAR limited. He doesn't directly control it. And that's the big difference between Virgil and Pierce. The only thing Lightning holds over Static right now is experience. But factually speaking he has little advantage, if any.

And I think this is where the clear disconnect comes from myself. (That and the animated show) The reason why we can gauge Static's edge over Black Lightning in strength is the fact he's done so many crazy feats (In such little panel time no less) AS just a kid off the streets. Like most of the time he's 14, 16 and he's casually thrown down with Holocaust, killed Raven's fucking kid mano e mano and let's not forget...he KILLED an entire New York BRIDGE full of zombies in like two seconds by shutting down their brains. We only see that peek of his full potential because he's not holding *back* at that point in time too. So there's really all these things that Static is doing, on the fly, so casual, but so powerful that even people like Hardware took note he was a powerhouse and knew it'd be a bad idea to ever fight him directly. Like legit...do NOT let the fact that he's usually a teenager and hasn't been trained by someone older fool you. If anything this should stand as a testament to there's SO MUCH unchecked of what he's capable of...and I think he's done enough to deserve people thinking he's stronger than he is...than *weaker.*

Static himself has been drained, even though technically neither of them should be able to. They both are designed in a way that they can easily combat each other. Their powers are borderline identical, so static indeed has the same potential which is infinite.

I’m going based on as he’s displayed commonly, the ONLY EDGE black lightning has is he can turn into energy himself and stay that way indefinitely. A long term fight would work in BL favor, Virgil absolutely has the potential.

@@AltFactuals There is still a difference that I think you should see. Static's powers are not just electric. They are electric magnetic. This gives him access to abilities far beyond the common electric meta. In the milestone media universe, Static was considered the most powerful character. This puts him above Icon (Black superman).

Comic book black lightning doesn’t have those limitations. That’s the show capping his power because it has been stated that black lightning has limitless potential to increase his power. Static’s powers are not bound by limitations either but he cannot finnese the same range of energy he can at his age. Static as an adult can get close to power of black lightning. If they somehow decided to make it so static can turn into energy like BL then they’d be even.

And at his teenage age, he's able to use electricity to heal and regenerate, and there's also the fact that he can manipulate subatomic particles w/ his power, as well as the fact that Static constantly generates his own raw electrical power.

Yeah that is not the comic book version of black lightning. Don’t let the show fool you, Black lightning is a generator of power who has complete control of the EM field as well as a completely powerful energy form. Static has the potential to equal him in power for sure but as of right now he does not have the feats of BL. That’s also why Static trained under BL because BL saw that he had the same amount of potential in power as him.

Shazam is also very equal to Superman last I checked. He has the Wisdom of Solomon when he transforms so he kind of gets experience automatically. It's perhaps more artificial than Clark's and that may make him react on matters or situations with a little more hesitance. But that's very nitpicky and could be more or less the fact that Billy's personality just varies from Clark's itself. Not that he has high inexperience.

@@AltFactuals When I first saw Static Shock comic I thought it was a rehash of Black Lightning. Didn't Black Lightning where an afro wig and use a belt to get his powers? It's a long time since I read the original series of comics as I collected the first few when they first came out.

@@AltFactuals Actually Static was heavily influenced by Spider-Man. I don't think Dwayne McDuffie really factored in the older black heroes like Luke Cage and Black Lightning when making Virgil, because he wasn't very keen of their blaxploitation elements. (To the point in one of the Icon issues he makes complete fun of it.) Dwayne McDuffie had a master's degree in physics and worked as a physicist before he got into making comic books. So I'm pretty sure when he and Denys Cowan and the others decided they wanted that 'snarky teenaged genius' archetype, McDuffie knew that electromagnetism was a force that someone like Virgil could easily make use of in combat due to a love for science and physics. And wouldn't you know it...he hit his mark.

Actually...no. You're very close with this. I'd just slid over this comment but I don't want people to get further confused. Yes. I think Prince misunderstood what you were going for, because Benders tend to actually need an element to act on before they use their powers to the fullest extent. *All except for Firebenders.* Because they manipulate their surrounding atmosphere to *generate fire* or *lightning.* Static is actually -believe it or not - much the same. He happens to soak up and manipulate ambient electromagnetism around himself constantly and stores the charge. (And ambient EM energy is high abundance around planet earth) He's a superconductor. So...kind of think of him as a *giant magnetic metal pole* that is near a electrical storm. He will constantly be soaking up charge - _discharging_ it when conditions are met (Ergo in Virgil's case when he wants) and because he's so close to a storm; he will never ever run out of said charge to keep soaking up. Meanwhile Black Lightning is more like an electric pokemon because he just generates his own charge from his differing biology and acts like a bio-electric battery. If he was removed from a place that had no electromagnetic energy or electricity, he'd still generate his own. I'd say this makes Black Lightning a perfect candidate for things like space missions or alternate dimensions. But because electromagnetic energy is just so abundant of a phenomenon throughout the galaxy...it's _really_ not that big a pro. And compared to Static's method based on the universe we live in? It's not a good trade off considering the abilities that comes with Virgil's method.

Nah, but Static does have something in his arsenal that Black Lightning has not demonstrated; The Plasma Cable - he can insulate himself from imbalanced charges by ionizing the environment wrapping a tight EM field around the target. If he can entrap him with that Static will have the battle in his favor.

A much older and stronger Static - possibly. (Given his upgrade in Future State I doubt that, though) But it's more around the lines that Black Lightning has no real way to overload Static either. Because Virgil is electromagnetic and is essentially a giant super conductor, this means that he has WAY more control over electricity than Pierce and can channel all the extra into another form or technique that will likely knock Lightning out. Prince above touches on this with the Plasma Cable. But really because Virgil deals in electromagnetism and not strictly *electricity* there's _numerous_ other techniques he can employ and this is where a lot of people don't realize that his level starts to surpasses Pierce's directly - even if he has less experience.
