In this video, I demonstrate some of the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of static versus dynamic WordPress blocks. I introduce Pinegrow’s new hybrid blocks, an alternative to static blocks, that gives you some of the best of both worlds. And, I offer advice on which block type to use in different circumstances.
📝Note: I'm not affiliated with Pinegrow in any way. I'm just a happy, paying customer who wants to see the product continue to grow and thrive, and to help build a more active community around it.

I'm glad you appreciated it. And yes, Pinegrow blocks have alway been great for performance and flexibility, and these hybrid blocks bring their usability another step closer to what we get with general-purpose commercial blocks.

Building blocks with Pinegrow is getting easier with each new update, which is fantastic. This makes me think about creating dynamic blocks as components to be used in various projects with different styles. In your opinion, what would be the best way to achieve this? Use a standard class structure (like Core or ACSS) for all projects or utilize a framework like Tailwind?

Great question! I think you'll be equally fine either way; the biggest thing that'll make a difference is consistency. If you take a look at the WordPress docs, they actually lean toward creating separate css files for each block. It's an extra step, but it does make it so that they can be used as standalone components and easily swapped in and out of projects. It also makes it so that the block's CSS is only loaded when needed.

The hours this is going to save me of mind numbing bullshit with React is fantastic, no more hoisting next to a plugin just to generate blocks on the fly.

My brain is exploding. Why would you use static blocks then? What's the use case for those?

There is still a tiny performance bump with static blocks vs. hybrid. Plus, the hybrid block model skirts around the block deprecation system that WordPress introduced to allow two versions of a block to run side by side. In practice, there is very little reason not to use hybrid blocks vs. static blocks.
