On this Station Saturday we take a tour of Firehouse 15, located at 2702 E. Dry Creek Rd. in Centennial. Annual Responses: Engine 15 - 2,292 Medic 15 - 2,384
Honestly I prefer these house style stations. They may be smaller or harder to get around but you get such a home like feel and it feels nice to be there
I definitely enjoy watching the different tours of your stations. I'm a station Captain of a volunteer fire department down here in Texas and it helps me with ideas on how to improve our station.
As a former volunteer firefighter(25 years) and now a member of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief Germany(THW), I still enjoy watching videos of other fire departments. It is somehow good to see that there are people who help others in their need. Thank you for your work and come back healthy from your missions.
I did a ride-along with Lt. Brown and his crew when E15 was temporarily moved to Station 37 back in August. What a great leader who constantly looks to develop the skills of his team! I truly appreciated the advice he gave me. Thank you, SMFR!
Great video. I would have never of thought of a house being a fire station, but i think you are making due with what room you got. Congratulations on getting a new station. Can't wait Eric to see that video on station Saturday
I remember living near an old USAF fire station that was similar, except it was a single bay station versus a two bay house. The bay was probably at most 10 feet in clearance, if not less.
Great review of Firehouse 15. Definitely a good arrangement for the number of personnel assigned, but a fourth on the engine would be ideal. Made the maximum sue from the small space you have. That is great that you are getting an upgrade soon. At least you have a very nice weight room. Great video coverage of your station.
Ah, the good old "temporary station" that is a federally protected landmark at this point... classic public service stuff :D I'm currently responding out of an amulance-only station that is built from industrial containers, because it was supposed to only be for 5 to 7 years while the "real" station was built. That was in the 1990's... O_O
I prefer the old home style stations over most of the big MASSIVE ones that we now seem to get. Most of the 3-bay stations only have 1 engine with 2 or 3 firefighters, but at the same time they are building something for 50 to 75 years down the road as well. As always thanks for the video, you guys and stockton have the best content!
What is the future plan for Engine-40 now that they are back into a 2009/1500gal engine, will SMFR be acquiring a new 1000gal engine to replace Engine-40 like to original plan or will it receive a hand-me down from one of the current 1000gal engines, or will it stay in it’s current Engine for the foreseeable future?
Just saw pictures of the new 15 House on your website. Very nice, and a definite upgrade over 15's old digs. (But then, relocating to 37 during construction might feel like taking a step back before taking a step forward for 15s!) Who is the architect? Looks similar to some of Allred & Associates' other work, namely Arvada's new Station 3 and Thornton's Station 1. Also, I notice there's 3 bays but only 7 bedrooms. Are there plans to house another apparatus there?
Thank you! We're very excited for the new firehouse to be completed. OZ Architecture designed the station. With 7 bedrooms the station can accommodate the 4-person Engine, 2-person Medic Unit, and a single resource. The 3rd bay provides future options such as a single resource (Battalion, Med, Safety), a cross-staffed brush truck or a reserve apparatus.
What is the red truck in the back of the station and when will the next day in the life/fire medics come out, can u do a station Saturday of south metro headquarters
That is a reserve Battalion/Safety F-150 that was previously assigned to Battalion 4. The next Fire Medics will be released this weekend. We'll feature a Station Saturday of Headquarters once all the firehouses have been done.
How many stations you have do you respond with aurora and castle rock or Parker department? What’s the salary range starting for firefighter and captain and battalion chief thanks
South Metro has 30 Fire Stations and we have automatic aid agreements with Aurora and Castle Rock. Parker Fire District became part of South Metro in 2009. The 2023 Firefighter salary ranges from $64,371 to $99,338. The Captain salary is $134.107 and Battalion Chief salary is $176,082.
Medic 37 became Medic 33 after the EMS Division determined that statistically that station is a better location for a Medic unit. ARM37 was taken out of service because it's response model was not meeting the needs of our community. It has been replaced with a Public Health program and the vehicle is now called Public Health 10. Med 2 is housed at Station 32.
Is the new house being built on the same plot or is it being relocated? Who is the architect, and are there renderings available for viewing to see what it will look like? Lastly, what are the plans for Station 37 once the new Station 15 is in operation? (Fun fact: Back when it was Castlewood Station 7, their hazmat rig--HAMER 37--ran out of the house. That rig lives on in the South Metro fleet; its 1996 SVI body remounted on a 2002 Spartan chassis and now running as HazMat 38 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zpdGIg9DD-o.html ) Keep up the good work. Definitely looking forward to the walk-through of 22s; it isn't often you see a fire station anchoring a strip mall!
I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight not knowing if they were going to scrape and rebuild on the same site, so I did some research. The City of Centennial granted them a variance on 12/14/2022 to encroach a 25' setback by 3' on the NW corner of the site located at 2702 E Dry Creek Road, the current address. The engineering firm that applied for the variance is Strategic Site Designs, LLC. It's a pretty good location for them, and I don't see why they would temporarily relocate to 37 if they were building anew somewhere else.
Station 15 will be rebuilt on the same site. Once renderings are approved we'll share them online an and in a PIO vlog. Plans for Station 37 once Station 15 reopens are still being determined but Med 2 will be going in service there in the next few weeks.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Gotcha! You might not get another shot so maybe now's the time to feature Station 37 in a "Station Saturday" episode? Run it on April 1st as an April Fool's joke that actually isn't! Seriously, though, that's one old barn (1963, I believe?) and it would be interesting to see what upgrades were made for it to serve as a contemporary fire station, even if only temporarily. Unfortunately, plenty of small departments across the county work out of stations as old or older than this by necessity; I'm sure many of them would find it useful some of the little things South Metro did to eke out a couple more years from an old barn they mostly haven't been using for several years. One last thing (and I don't know why this just popped into my head): Will Station 37 remain numbered as such, with 15s responding out of it, or will the house temporarily be numbered "Station 15" while that crew is using it? I know it doesn't matter one way or the other but the question is in my head now and won't go away until it's asked. [EDIT: One more, "one more thing": I know it's a recent addition but hopefully you and the architects find a way to incorporate the truss over the engine bay into the new station. Sure, it's the newest feature of the current house but it would help tie the new house to the old. Plus, it looks good!]
Lol spoiled brats complaining about it being a small firehouse? Stop by a real firehouse (local 2) so busy you won’t worry about it being small and old.
