Statistics 101: Binomial Mean and Standard Deviation.
In this video, we learn how to calculate the mean and standard deviation for a binomial distribution. Two examples are provided and we tie the concept back into the previous video where we discussed cumulative binomial probabilities. Enjoy!

Mr. Foltz, I started watching your Stats 101 playlist about a year-and-a-half ago. I got through most of it but probability theory didn’t stick for some reason. I went back and watched the videos in Playlists 4 and 5 (up to this one) this month, and things just clicked. Your way of explaining things makes even a (once) quasi-innumerate like me understand. You and your videos are a lifesaver. I knew I’d get probability theory once I took a break and came back to it, knowing how helpful your coverage of other stats topics have been. The correlation coefficient between watching your videos and understanding is a solid 1!

Very informative, much appreciated.. as an aside, you gave me a chill of genuine terror when you referenced nearly half of the respondents have a pre-enlightenment level of understanding.

One more thing. Because your instructional video's are well-prepared and easy to understand, it takes minimal time for me to re-learn and apply the methods at work. Basically all I need is an overview and your video's are very good at doing this. Thanks,,,

At the end of each video, you ask if there is anything better you can do. No, there is nothing that you can do better because these series all are the best! Your hard work and dedication are amazing!

Brilliant :) I'm currently studying Statistics as part of my Bachelor of Business in hospitality Management and I have never even seen half of these equations and formulas before, your videos have really helped me understand this subject with much more ease. I wish you did these for every subject lol, you have a wonderful teaching style, please keep making your videos :)

Thank you so much Pro. Foltz, I am working on my BS in Psychology, and this is one of my final courses and though we are only two weeks in I was at the point of dropping class because I just could not get it and decided to come to youtube and see what was available. You explain things slowly and clearly, and I am starting to understand, I will be using your videos to help me finish this course successfully. Thank you again.

I really appreciate your video Mr Foltz it really simple to understand. Yet, i thought it will be good if you explain how the formula comes from such as standard deviation in this video. Thank you. Godspeed

Great videos. My undergrad's was in System Engineering and I use inferential stats in my finance career in about 20% of my work. I am a Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt so when I need to refresh my memory of stats based on the data that I collect, I like to use RU-vid as instructions to help me. Your video's are a huge asset in helping me re-learn calculations and apply my data to my LSS projects. My current project uses attribute data so your Binomial Distribution vid's have helped me tremendously.

Brandon, your videos are helping me to clear very basic concepts. I have referred few books earlier to learn Statistics, but every book had something missing. I used to get confused in midway.

Yes, I noticed that. He actually covers less than and greater than in video 5.8. so watch 5.6, then 5.8 and then 5.7 (this one).

In this video, it would have helped if you proved to us that the gallup poll was a binomial experiment (i.e. meets all the requirements of a binomial experiment) and then apply the formulas for the mean and the standard deviation. In general it is hard for me to know how to reason about the experiment itself, so anything that helps me figure out what type of a distribution we're looking at would be helpful. My 2 cents...

Hey Foltz, Good series, keep up the good work. A little advice if we can have proof how at @8:00 we got mean = n.p? Because it uses to be Summation of outcome x probability(outcome).

Im not sure I understand correctly, in the last video you said that the question was: What is the probability that each salesperson makes exactly 6 sales on any given day. And we saw that Margo had the upper edge on that by circa 2 %. However now you states that we discussed in the last video: What is the probability that each salesperson makes AT LEAST 6 sales on any given day? But if that is the case then shouldn't it be Joan? Since she has a higher probability on almost everything above 6 sales?

Can you not just group the P(DIE ROLL: 1/3 success = {1,2} 2/3 failure = {3,4,5,6}) into a Binomial Distribution?
