I don't know how do RU-vidrs get revenue from these ads work but I make sure to watch each and every ad completely as a token of appreciation for the wonderful work Brandon is doing for all of us.

Thanks! I appreciate that. The advertiser only pays RU-vid if certain amount of the ad is watched or it is clicked on. Then that revenue is split with the creator. It's what makes this all possible.

Thank you so much for these videos. I am in the 3rd week of a 6 week PSYCH3002 class. These videos, in under an hour, helped me understand more material than days and hours of reading textbooks and words of my instructor as well. I'm an applied learner when it comes to numbers but I still love them! Online grad learning doing my first inferential statistics class has been a challenge. I have to know WHY and HOW for it to sink in. Your explanations are exceptional in providing another point of view at learning. So many professors say..."well, this is what you read...there you go." honestly, without spelling it out in leyman's terms...it's quite difficult. You provide that bridge between the book and my brain. Thank you. I'll be following the other videos as well.

And you know what the funniest part about the first video on this subject was? That at the moment I found that video I was frustrated and you started talking about how we should be patient, can't remember the exact words you said but omg! Yes. In a One-Way ANOVA context, the null hypothesis states that all the group/column/treatment means are equal as you indicated. You are correct! :) - B

This video finally cleared my doubts regarding how to state the null and the alternative hypotheses. This has always been a bit of a mystery to me and your video has made it very clear. I have to say that your videos are very good and I keep coming back to them to see what's next. Keep up your excellent work!

Hello Salah! First thing to remember: the equal sign always goes with the null hypothesis H0. Second thing: hypothesis tests are not really about predictions. Either the null is supported (fail to reject) or it is not supported (reject). From what you wrote, it appears your null would be H0: greater than or equal to ___ and alternative H1 less than __. . If the test returns equal to or greater than, then you would fail to reject (support) the null H0.

you really have done a great job, the content is elaborated so smooth , yet it would be so helpful to refer in the end of your each video to the next video title , in order to draw a road map to who ever wants to know what is the right way of doing something.

Excellent teaching style. The double negative ("fail to reject" the null) is challenging because you are taught to be unambiguous when writing business requirements statements which includes removing double negatives. This is particularly important to people where English isn't their first language as it is a tough concept to grasp so over time you do learn to shy from ever using them and now, we are using them. Grrrrrr :-)

I am out of statistics for a long time and have taken recent interest in it while being a working professional. Your videos are so crisp and easy to grasp. Thank you Brandon, I AM smart and talented, but was seriously starting to doubt it, during the past 5 weeks of stats study! Your teaching style is fabulous and you make the concepts so easy to understand. I do hope lecturers watch your videos as part of their ongoing personal learning and commitment to being a better teacher. I especially like that you use $50 words rather than $5,000 words ... A sign of a true teacher rather than an educator. I am of the firm belief that the vast majority of students only fail because their teacher has failed to teach well. Excellent video. I really struggle with basic statistics but this has helped me tremendously. The explanations are easy to understand, and what I really like is the fact that Brandon does not assume previous knowledge of the topic, and therefore explains al the concepts in depth.

Please correct me if i'm wrong in the way i'm thinking about this problem. The average attendance is already given to be 74k . So we take it as an assumption and put it straight in the null hypothesis.H0>=74k As the analyst wants to test if the the attendance has decreased we form our null hypothesis as H1

I loved this video! I have a question regarding example 3. I assumed the null hypothesis would be, Ho = 74,961. how were we supposed to know that Ho was greater than or equal to 74,961? What am I supposed to be looking for in the question to indicate the difference?

liz smart because the claim is that it has decreased, that is, the alternative hypothesis. Therefore, the null hypothesis must be the opposite and contain an equal sign. Thus the null is greater than or equal to.

Nice and clear explanation. 1 point does not come to me intuitively though: when testing that farm area has increased/attendance has decreased, it seems more natural to find data that would support your hypothesis. Thus if I were to do this informally, I would compare the means of farm sizes now to farm sizes in the past and see if there was an increase. If so, I can infer that farm sizes have probably increased. With attendance, I would look at the mean attendance now and see if it is lower than previous means. It seems somewhat odd to have your assumption be the opposite of what you'd predict (i.e. that farm size has not changed), only to collect data so that you can reject this assumption. Why would I not directly have my null as my prediction (i.e. that farm sizes have increased), then collect data that allows me to not reject the null? This seems less roundabout. Thanks!

Hi Brandon Thank you for this video. Really a great work. It gave me a lot of clarity regarding hypothesis. However in examples 2 and 3 I felt that it would be easier to formulate the alternate hypothesis first and then formulate null based on the alternate hypothesis. Would it be a correct strategy or would it cause any problems?

Hello Mr. Foltz, I thank you very much for the help you are giving to beginners like myself. This can be overwhelming at times, I really hope you can help me with this. My problem is I am having a hard time knowing which test to use for my research. My alternative hypothesis states, is there a difference between the motivation for parents signing their child up to participate in AAU sports and the motivation for their child to participate AAU sports? My null would be there is no difference between the motivation for parents signing their kids up to participate in AAU sports and the motivation for their child to participate in AAU sports. I conducted an 11 question survey from which I have 100 responses from parents and 100 responses from the kids, but I am having a problem of knowing which test to use to see if there a significance difference. Do I use the two sample t test or Z test, because of the two population I am trying to find the difference between. I have all my data from the surveys but I am still clueless of how to proceed. I apologize for the lengthy comment but I am really stuck. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I appreciate your time Sir. That would direct me to another thought, if you don't mind. If the main effect for B and the interaction effect are Zero, then the structural model for factorial Anova would be equivalent to the structural model for a one-way Anova, too. Am I right? Or they would not be equal. !!!

Regarding the farm question, your null hypothesis should be average=2.3 rather than ave. smaller or equal to 2.3.
