Lacul Belis-Fantanele este un lac artificial de acumulare, aflat in Muntii Gilaului, judetul Cluj. A fost proiectat si amenajat in anii 1970-1974, in scop hidroenergetic, pe cursul raului Somesul Cald, la confluenta dintre muntii Gilaului, muntii Vladeasa si Muntele Mare.
Satenii din vechiul Belis au fost nevoiti sa se mute in actuala vatra a satului. Micile catune, insa, precum Ples, Bolojesti, Dadesti, Milioan sau Giurcuta de Jos au disparut, in timp. Vara, daca nivelul apei scade foarte mult, se mai pot vedea ruinele caselor abandonate de sateni. In acest sens, faimoase sunt ruinele fostei biserici din Giurcuta de Jos.
ENGLISH: Like other artificial reservoirs in Romania, the Beliș-Fântânele lake was formed on the hillside of a village. The inhabitants of the village were displaced in the early 1970s to the present village of Beliș, and several hamlets were flooded. In very dry years, the still solid walls of the village church can be seen.
According to some sources, it is known as the Urmanczy church, after the magnate Urmanczy, who built it in 1913 in the Roman Catholic rite. According to other sources, it is the church of Giurcuța de Jos, founded by local shepherds. Whatever the legend behind it, the ruin is known as the church under the lake or the sunken church and is one of the unique attractions on Lake Belis, if you are lucky enough to see it. In fact, in the warm season, assisted dives can be arranged to see the walls of the church underwater.
