after how many years did you transfer to Columbia from Georgetown?

@@minnahkhan2065 I just completed my third year at Georgetown and I’m going to Columbia as part of their “combined plan” to do engineering since Georgetown doesn’t have engineering. There are like 100 schools that participate in the program though.

How did you do the HSLI at Columbia?

@@dani23dani85 There’s an application with a few questions about your background and a few short responses and an essay or two. You can just search HSLI and find the application on the NYU website. When you get accepted you’ll figure out whether you’ll do the program at either NYU or Columbia :)

Hey Erin! Thanks so much for your kind words ❤️ I don’t think internships or other programs are necessary to get in, but if you are interested in doing them there are a TON of free ones (especially in nyc)! One I highly recommend is the High School Law Institute at NYU or Columbia. Another one I really enjoyed is called Learning Curve, which taught basic entrepreneurship topics and took place at NYU. I also know that there is a really great summer program at the American Museum of Natural History. You can search up “free summer programs for hs students in nyc” and there is a long list that you can skim through. Your school also might publish a list of opportunities in your area in an email newsletter or on a bulletin. Precollege programs don’t impact your admission decision at all so I personally don’t think it’s worth spending too much money on them because I know people that did a bunch of summer programs at certain at schools and did not get it. These programs were both in person!

I’m studying financial Economics and mathematics. Ivy Leagues don’t give scholarships so I did not receive one at Columbia, but I did receive 120k scholarship at Northeastern, 80k scholarship at BU, full scholarship at Fordham, and some other smaller scholarships at a couple of the other schools. Ivy Leagues do however give lots of financial aid and can cover your entire tuition cost based on need. Will make a vid on study habits in the future once I’m back on campus :)

I’m not the girl in the video, but I don’t think test scores are the BIGGEST factor for college admissions, so you should be pretty good :) those are really good scores btw!! the most important factors I would say are your essays and extracurriculars/activities

I think you should apply. Your essays and ecs can make up for your stats... Even though your stats are really good.

Since the IB scores come out after you’ve already been admitted, I don’t think there is a set score you’d need for American schools. Universities in other countries have conditional scores though and I believe my conditional for McGill was a 35!

Think it was a 42 but I got like a 38 lol. I don’t think my IB score even went to Columbia because they came out months after I had already been accepted and committed to the school.

Hi! I think this is the case for most ib students. I only had one exam score when I applied to colleges. If you’re applying to schools outside of the US, you will get a “conditional score” from colleges if you get admitted. For example, if your projected IB score is a 40, your conditional score from colleges will be around this and your enrollment depends on whether you receive that score or higher. For American schools, you will not receive a conditional score (at least from my experience). I believe that your guidance counselor will send over your projected IB score and current IB classes and schools will make decisions based off of this. On the common app, I specified that I was getting the HS diploma and the IB diploma.

Hi! Not her, but as someone who got a 44 with 7s in Math AA HL, Econ HL, and Spanish B HL, I would recommend that you try to think about what subjects you would like to take now (depends on college courses). Try to not have any subject that you don't like for HLs (if you can). Also, once you start, go for past papers! They are invaluable when it comes to studying for exams. Also, according to my coordinator, Kids who get 42+ usually study about 20-30 hours a week. I personally only started doing so closer to the end of Y1 (Averaged about 25). My IB coordinator told me this and my experienced proved her right. Finally, for exams, relax, take it easy, and there is little to no point in studying more than 1hr the day before them. Sleep! I wish I watched these when I was 11. It would have been great to have started padding my stats early to be like her.

Tbh I'd just keep the idea of college apps in the back of my mind if I were your age (guessing you're 13 at the time I comment). I started thinking about college at 13 but then kinda stopped and wished I didn't stop. Like you're young still so don't put too much pressure on yourself and just try some new things until you find what you really like.
