It's been over 100 years since this poem came out. And it points out issus we're still facing today. 10/10 poem that stands the test of time

I watch this all the time and get teary-eyed every time. This is what America should strive for once again. We've fallen too far from what we once were. Greed and selfishness has taken over...

This poem is just that. A poem out of many that were entered in a contest to raise money for assembling and mounting the figure. It is not a declaration of policy ! Ellis Island, where the people who came here and were vetted is what America should be striving for once again. People from the Old Country were accepted into America if they had no health issues and if they had something to contribute. They were not let in willy nilly like now in this butthole Biden administration.

1:28 Beautiful. Filled my eyes with tears. Someone now wants to ban all immigrants looking for asylum or freedom, a home. They no longer want to share our huge, gorgeous land with those who need a place to be free. What have we become, and why?

America will be damned if we let everyone in willy nilly without being vetted. When someone from the middle east that comes into America illegally and smugly says 'you don't know who I am, but you will', doesn't that sound somewhat like a threat ? Foreigners that come to America must come through ports of entry and be vetted ! Btw a lot of ILLEGALS are coming into America where blowjob Biden ordered the building of the wall halted. 😡

Human beings are human beings. Regardless. Why did people come onto North America on the Mayflower. To seek freedom. No one opposed their arrival. I've heard fair skinned people say to us Latins, "GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM." I beg your pardon??? I love you precious Father 🤗 And thank you for giving me the heart of a human being.😊😔

I am crying because I am that American who loves lifting the poor and impoverished person while in the city of New York, I am crying because I realized too late what Americans who ostracized me along many billions of humans were building their worldview around enemy mentality, I am crying because Child Protective Services of America should be focusing on every humans who believe themselves as Americans, I am crying because the original vision of the poem was betrayed, I am crying because the only way mentally sheltered Americans could truly feel this pain I feel is if they today are suddenly branded enemy of the state by all believers of the state, I am crying because current reality is not the liberty I emancipated in mind, I am crying because all the original immigrants of this land are dead, I am crying because all the descendants of America could not listen to the spirit of their ancestors, I am crying because he who read history knows and she who read history knows, I was crying because I needed help, and now help has arrived. I am colossus.

When people are jumping over fences weather they are 'just coming into work' or are being mules for illegal drugs or worse - this is coming in from the 'broken window' -- people coming into the US should use the front door, not that the door should be hard to get through ... but it should be used. I know plenty of people who have come to America without any problems, as long as they went through the proper channels... All I'm saying is if you want to be here, use the door!

... Is this a "broken wondow"? Broken window is a nice image, but I do not really understand what it should mean. It could mean different things. And I don't want to say that the USA is not allowed to put this barriers, but I think that it was not in the American idea, which the founding fathers of the USA had.

This is how true Americans View immigrants coming to our country. We want you to come here and seek freedom and safety. Don't be fooled by Republican hyperbole, Americans have no problem with immigrants who come to our country Shores legally or those who come to its borders seeking Asylum

We can't take care of the people we already have. This is not the same country that it was when the lady in the harbor came. We can't be the welfare system for the world. We need to educate the people born here. Mexico is one of the only countries that won't secure it's border. Try this, take all the money you can carry on an airline ticket to St. Tropez, change you currency to francs. Get a tent and pitch it on the beach. Tell the local French officials that your seeking political asylum from the US. You think they'll do for you equally as they have done for other people saying they need political asylum and give you French citizenship? They find out you're a USA citizen, they will have your ass on a jet so fast it will make your head spin. Think about that. From the people who gave us lady liberty.
@NetzKaiser
@NetzKaiser 14 лет назад
@flightrisk7 Okay. I do not know if my position is clear. My idea of USA is that everyone can go there, if he or she does not (ab)use the welfar(money for poor people and so on). I can understand that they have to do some formalities(for ID card and so on) but there are more barriers, or? And because of this barriers the people have to try it without visiting the residents' registration office, if they want to immigrate. ...

By your logic, Europe and Asia are continents of immigrants, because everybody came from Africa. Native Americans have been on the continent for over 14,000 years. The Native Americans presence in America predates all written history. I think they deserve a bit more credibility than you're giving them. Besides, the concept of citizenship and immigration hadn't yet been invented anywhere in the world at the time they came here.

Super Saiyan Goku America is not a "nation of immigrants." My family has been in America since before the writing of the Constitution and the forming of the government. No one has the right to come here, it is a privilege. Many come here to leech off the system, and that will stop.
@thelinedrive
@thelinedrive 7 лет назад
Camel76 So those colonists that you were descended from just magically appeared in America without any European ties to themselves. That's some kind of crazy story if true considering outside of native Americans no one in this country's ancestral origins to this country. As for the poem it was inscribed the the French architect who constructed lady liberty and her sister in France as a gift between allied nations as a understood symbol that the desire for freedom is universal and all who desire it are welcome to lady liberty's shores. The idea that America has some set values beyond that desire to be free is moronic. If that were the case Catholicism would never of taken hold. Things like Italian, Mexican and Chinese food wouldn't of taken hold in the American diet. Our history is littered with examples that the nation of immigrants is at its strongest when we support those who come to lady liberty's shores.
