This is really cool, I hope they finish it in my lifetime so I could visit India and see it. I always wanted to visit India

Its heartening to see a true son of India being hnoured. For 6 decades, we have been given t believe that only one family was responsible for independence and growth (sic !). His contribution to India is unique, more so because like Indira, Rajiv & Sonia Gandhi and now Rahul, he never tried to get his children into illgotten wealth, which is what others have done. Along with Shastri, he's a true son of India. I'm proud to have such icons in India. Vande Mataram. May his memory live forever.

Sardar Patel deserves BHARAT RATNA. His dedication to the UNIFICATION OF INDIA is COMMENDABLE. He was a man with IMPECCABLE mindset.

It is a refreshing change to see a true son of India being honoured. Over the last 60 years, we have been made to believe by one of the political parties, that the entire independence of India was due to them. A blatant misrepresentation of the noble name of Gandhi. Hey guys... I am From USA and i seen many times Statue Of Liberty in NYC, but if this Project of Narendra Modi success, then We Gujarati have Proud, That we are From Gujarat. @pankit Thats very true - He wanted to go to USA to bring some business to India/Gujarat. But now he made the reverse rely, all business men are coming to India to do business with Gujarat... commenting based on the success of Summits happening at Vibrant Gujarat every year. Tata Nano project got permit in 72 hours and Plant got established and production started in record time. Ratan Tata him self said this can only happen in Gujarat.

Rightfully named the Iron Man of India, India would have had a different history had Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel been our first Prime Minister. I am so happy that his statue is the tallest because he truly was a very tall man in stature. And I admire what Modi has done in and for Gujarat. Headlines of newspapers in Gujarat feature mostly the progress. Of course we know what the headlines of newspapers in other states say.

It sounds to be a huge amount. But consider huge numbers of scams done by congress govt. Just not that also huge amounts spent fighting neighbours. I think this Idea's fantastic, symbolically and literally. However, not to jinx anything, but is it safe to build it down stream a dam? in 3:52 we see its 3km away, and if destruction was ever intended, it would be a hot spot, as to easily destroy the statue, the dam will be the target, which will cause so much harm to the surounding environment, including the people. This is my opinion from a first time viewing of the video, but is the 5:33 viewpoint far enough from the dam incase unleased?

@alpha2130 Narmada Sarovar project was initiated long long long back.... But congress was not want to start that... which was immediately completed by Modi - he faced all the problem during the execution of Sardar Sarovar. Right now with that project Gujarat does not have problem of water, and Gujrat is supplying water and electricity to Rajasthan, Maharastra and MP.

the way we mourn today for Sardar not being PM 60 yrs back may be our coming generation will mourn for NAMO not being PM today .. so lets come out of this mourning psychology and leave in present and do all our best to make NAMO the next PM of India.

@alpha2130 : I think you have not been in Ahmedabad before, it was horrible to stay in Ahmedabad before 2002... Every Rathyatra Riots (A big hindu festival), every election Riots, every Kite flying day Riots... Gujarat was not able to progress because of these all things... And the major thing why do you forget about the Train incident - was it in favor of humanity...

Gujarat is not the Birth Place of the Lord. However it is Karma Bhumi of the Lord. Narmada Dam was foresight of Sardar Patel so his statue being created near it is very much logical rather than the Lord or anyone else. (P.S. not against it but just saying)

@alpha2130 I still say Modi is a leader of Gujarat, look at the growth of Gujarat in last 10 years, which congress could not do for 25 years. Modi works 24 hours for Gujarat, he does not need any help from Central government... After Modi took over many Major natural disaster happened - Earthquake, Surat Flood (twice), Attack on Akshardham Temple (that was actually planned for Modi). - But still Gujarat is shining..

That monument is grotesque. Speaking from a western perspective on political monuments, it lacks symbolism relating to Indian culture, history, or philosophy. The Statue of Liberty is deeply symbolic of America's founding principles. But the Statue of Unity is not symbolic, it's a statue, not a monument. A monument is not only a statue, it must contain symbolism for it to be monumental. The Statue of Unity simply has no symbolism, it's a giant statue and perhaps a tourist attraction.

Honoring Sardar is good, but the tallest statue for him is not. Individuals’ idols should be within resources. Sardar’s statue should be smaller than his Guru’s. His struggle for unity created some ill feelings, which should be contained. Gujaratis/Patels should attract others to honor Sardar. Unlike Statue of Liberty, this one will be an own construct to represent a person. A huge structure inside the Sardar Sarovar may reduce the flow. Cleaning of villages and beaches need greater attention.

Not just Sardar Patel, all the other heroes of India, the founding fathers and mothers of India need to remembered and commemorated in a similarly grand and timeless fashion. Nehru, Ambedkar, Azad, Besant, Naidu, Tagore, Gokhale, Bose, Rajagopalachari, Khan. (name the rest.. :D) and ofcourse a grand, singular tribute to Gandhi recognizable on the level of the Taj. I would, at the risk of being insulted here, say we should publicly acknowledge and commemorate more polarizing figures like Savarkar, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Bhagat Singh, Krishna Menon. Maybe even acknowledge even if we do not commemorate, more highly controversial ones who stood up against the British like Hyder Ali, Tippu Sultan, Jinnah, ud-Daulah etc. And commemorate and acknowledge post-Independence heroes like Verghese Kurien, Norman Borlaugh, Narasimha Rao, KPS Gill, Sam Manekshaw. I congratulate Modi for doing something like this. It might be a bit of pointless expenditure, but building tributes like these cement their values for the future India that these men fought for. India needs to cement their legacy in a way no future tyrant can erase. So that their fight will be remembered for thousands of years, for hundreds of generations to come after us.

Once MODI's VISA Application was refused by US Embassy telling him the Terrorist. I remember at that time MODI said that "I WILL CREATE USA IN GUJARAT". STATUE OF UNITY is answer to USA and proves that MODI is doing what he committed. Now people from US will have to visit GUJARAT to see TALLEST STATUE of the WORLD. And this is just a traitor. Of what use is this statue to the rest of the world? Its nothing more than an ego trip for the CM and the ppl of gujarat. The resources that will be spent in the implementation cud be much better employed

(ie by the time when people in India were living in a civilized world ... the people in england or europe in general would have been naked nomads living in caves) and i remained as such till 1947.. Waste of money just like the statue of liberty was a waste of money. But governments waste money on war and space exploration, etc... Do not live your life according to your own will but do the Lord's will. What you do for yourself is meaningless, what you do for God lasts forever in Heaven. Turn to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, read the Bible, and obey God. Then you will have eternal life in Heaven where there is love and joy. Call on the name of Jesus to be saved.
