The start of every live performance for at least 30 years, I know. Everyone's waiting for Rick to start the boogie engine up gets the old hairs standing on end, without fail. I don't know how many times they've played this song live, but it must be in the 1000's. No wonder Francis likes changing things a bit in regard to the lyrics and his guitar sections. The original version is from their 1973, 'Hello!', album, which is considered by many to be one of, (if not the), best albums they ever made. 'Roll Over Lay Down', 'Blue Eyed-Lady', 'Softer Ride', and the awesome, 'Forty-Five Hundred Times', being the other notable tracks. If you want crowd participation you should listen to a live version of, 'Dirty Water!' Rick Parfitt was known as the WOMORR, i.e. 'Wild Old Man of Rock 'n' Roll. He did his thing his own way and was exceedingly proficient at it. He had very few pretences whilst on stage. He really was the real deal.

@@OffTapLife while status quo is still going strong with original member francis rossi, rick parfitt sadly died in 2016, which makes rossi the last original founder.

I used to play and sing this song to my housemate at university, who was called Caroline... She didn't like it as much as you. 😂Rick is a rhythm god.

In more recent times, Quo would always start their shows with 'Caroline'. The piece of music played just before it starts is called 'The Drone'.

status quo started about 1962. rick parfitt may well be (alongside chuck berry and keith richards) one of the guys who invented these guitarhero moves

Rest in Peace Rick Parfit and yes he wrote the book on being a rock star. Lucky enough to have seen them many times. Nearly prefer them at live aid instead of Queen - remember they opened and I bet they turned around and said follow that if you can.

Been enjoying your reactions the the mighty Quo. BUT! Quo were doing audience participation, long before Freddie Mercury! Quo fans are the most loyal in the world and the band get off on their reactions at a gig. I'm a Queen fan too but they were just a quite good live band live until Live Aid came along. One performance doesn't make a band. Quo were the original headbanging legs apart heavy rock band that others copied
