Status Quo are an English psychedelic rock band that formed in 1962. They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK. My favorite song by them is "Pictures Of Matchstick Men". But they have had a lot of great hits such as "Down Down", "Rockin' All Over The World", "Whatever You Want", "In The Army Now", "Paper Plane", "Caroline", "Break The Rules", "Roll Over Lay Down", "Rain", "Mystery Song", "Wild Side Of Life" etc.

Not very psychedelic after the two first albums though... From 1970; boogie, blues and rock with flavors of pop and country and even hardrock at times. Good choice of songs though, some of their most knowns :)

It was towards the latter albums and part of their career they were not taken seriously by some of the music press and hip/trendy newer younger generation who saw them as a stereotype, same chords, pop band. But the Quo could really rock, as good as anyone, and they remained a super band live, throughout their career.

In the uk yea sure. The Beatles have sold more records worldwide than anyone by a long way. Not that record sales are the defining factor alone. Status quo were a great band in their heyday no doubt about it. Putting things into perspective though the Beatles first single to their last was 8 years apart. The impact that band made and the legacy they left behind cannot and will never be matched. That’s not to suggest they should be everyone favourite band at all but more to suggest making any comparison with them is a waste of time. Like the articles currently going around trying to make a claim Taylor swift can in anyway be compared to them 😂 I spat my coffee out and nearly pissed my pants I laughed so hard.

Status Quo (pronounced kwo) went to see the Doors. When they performed “Roadhouse Blues” it completely blew them away. Up until then they had been a pop band. Not correct Alek. The band were in a German disco when they heard the initial 'chugging ' sound and Rick said ' We'll have some of that " QUO started the Boogie sound 6-9 months before The Doors. I spoke with ALAN LANCASTER about this in the late 80's in Australia. QUO never went to a Doors gig, that is a Myth.
@alekhidell
@alekhidell Год назад
@@alanstrom2221 Status Quo, while touring in Bielefeld, Germany, in 1970,[24] heard the Doors' recording shortly after it was released. They were looking for a change of direction, away from their original psychedelic pop style, and were unsure about what to do; after hearing the song in a club, they enjoyed its 12-bar shuffle and thought it would be a good template for future original material This is Wikipedia, but I saw Francis Rossi describing how it was hearing the song that prompted the change of direction. the only bit I got wrong was how they heard it, and was probably me just not remembering the interview correctly. As to what they were playing immediately before that, I’m obviously not going to disagree with Lancaster (whom I only just discovered had died…R.I.P.) My point was, and is, that Roadhouse Blues played a fundamental part in their future success and wanted the boys to here Quo’s version of it In Glasgow because it is legendary.

The Quo were such a big band back in the day, never really taken seriously, I don't think they even took themselves seriously, they were just fun! All you need to do is enjoy and learn how to pronounce their name! it's StayTuss Kwoh (kwoh rhymes with toe, so, ho, yo, foe and so on). So good that you're experiencing all types of rock music. There are many legendary bands that are pretty intense and have 5-10 min solos but it's not always about a solo for some bands. Not every band is Led Zepp or Dire Straits where that's their thing. Quo are a fun rock band and are fantastic live, but they don't necessarily focus on heavy solos. They just make you have fun, jump around and sing along. Maybe watching them live at Knebworth, Glastonbury or Donington will feel different. ♥️ Maybe you should check out Iron Maiden, you will lose your minds with their solos and incredible changeups in their songs!

I disagree! Their first albums where a bit shitty and looking to please the pop audience at the time. Luckily, they evolved to a rock n roll band and most of their songs and albums from 1970 and on are great, at least to me :)
