The original drummer of Status Quo was a guy called John Coghlan. He now drums in a tribute band called 'John Coghlan's Quo'. My band supported them a few years back.
They were expensive to watch though! :( I saw them 5 times in and around Croydon/Purley in South East London/Surrey in 1972 when they were "paying their dues" and admitedly they did a great long act and did 5 Encores, including a SEVEN part melody for one of them but they put the price up to £1.ONE POUND-OUTRAGEOUS! Led Zep.-Wembley Arena 1973==75 PENCE. Pink Floyd:Earls Court also £1 and best of all both Deep Purple and Creedence Clearwater Revival( the next week ) both 25 PENCE around 1974 at The Royal Albert Hall :)
There were great in the 70's. But they were always great anyway. Their last album, Backbone is a good one. Sadly, one of the original guitarist, Rick Parfitt passed away in 2016. RIP Rick, gone, not forgotten
Francis Rossi met Rick Parfitt in 1965 at butlins holiday park over here in England when he was 16 years old and they were playing in different bands. What a pair of legends they became with the rest of the band over the years. Even though there were a few changes to the other band members throughout their career. Legendary songs and so memorable that will always get people rockin. My dad was a drummer in a band in the 70’s and 80’s and they played a lot of their tracks so I grew up on status quo and loved them ever since. They were in a bad way as a band and not getting on in the early 80’s due to their alcohol and drug addictions but the 1985 live aid concert brought them back together. There is so much you find out when watching the more intimate videos where they tell the life they lived. They done the lot and Francis Rossi even said it was hard not to get drawn in to things when they were living the rockstar lifestyle in the 70’s and 80’s. Real legends of the rock and roll world
From 1968 - 2019 STATUS QUO have released 33 Studio albums. STATUS QUO WERE MID TO LATE 60'S/ 70'S & EARLY 80'S, THE DRUMMER JOHN COGHLAN AND BASSIST ALAN LANCASTER LEFT after more than 20 years in the early 80's. This LIVE version is fairly light weight and lacks their usual high energy
This is band is a British institution, this isn't the original line up but in my opinion the best line up, certainly live. They had a brilliant sense of humour. Note the "Wall of deaf" on their wall of Marshalls This was filmed in the 90's at Knebworth house.
Hard to believe these guys have sold 130m records worldwide without much recognition in North America. There one of the biggest & best Live bands to come out of the UK. Unfortunately poor management & a serious lack of airplay cost them big time in the States during in their mid 70’s prime. They have a massive back catalogue & are well worth checking out, especially their 1970’s albums 👍🎸
They may not be big in the States, but they got to open for iconic American bands in the States during the 70s: Aerosmith, Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult, ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd. In fact, the pose from the KISS Alive album was called the "Status Quo pose" because Gene Simmons saw the band doing that pose whilst Quo opened up for them.
This is Knebworth, 1990, with the third drummer and second bassist. The original lineup broke up in 1981. Prior to that Quo was a much heavier sounding band. They've also sold over 100 million albums. Although I'm an American, they're my favorite band of all time.

This from Knebworth "Silver Cleft Award" Concert. Multiple bands and performers like Tears for Fears, Genisis, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, etc.
I saw Genesis at Knebworth , I don't think this was the concert. I think it was Floyd rather than Genesis. I might be wrong but I was at that show too. When I saw Genesis at Knebworth, Lisa Stansfield was the support but maybe Quo were there too. was a long time ago but but the McCartney and plant one was definitely with Floyd headlining. I remember they had to take down their circular screen because of the wind. It rained like a bitch later in the day.
Knebworth was a big festival in a day (Tears for Fears, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Genesis...), so Quo weren't the only attraction. But probably one of the best acts of the day. I only just noticed how bad the camera work is because Andy Bown on keys and backing vocals (on the last verse) isn't shown at all, even though he wrote the bulk of the song!
This was a big venue... but you could catch Status Quo at local theatres and ballrooms in those days. I remember Boscombe ballroom 1970... we were the guys at the front!

STATUS QUO WERE MID TO LATE 60'S/ 70'S & EARLY 80'S, THE DRUMMER JOHN COGHLAN AND BASSIST ALAN LANCASTER LEFT after more than 20 years in the early 80's. This LIVE version is fairly light weight and lacks their usual high energy. The song itself is from their 1979 album titled WHATEVER YOU WANT. It is a Concept album which has a theme of criticising the music industry for their snide and nasty swipes against the Band. The LANCASTER penned WHO ASKED YOU? has lyrics are as follows - (Lancaster) There you go again Telling me the same mistakes I made There you go again Telling me the way I should have played Your silver tongue can talk away And tell me all I should have done But you'll always be the same 'Til the very last time has come Seventeen years, and it ain't no worth giving a try you said But I wouldn't be living If any year was never spent So when I see you up in arms I wonder where your time has gone Are you throwing it away 'Til the every last time has come Who asked you To prey on my feelings Lying low in every cloud Who asked you I've never been the one To give you any kind of reason Who asked you Who asked you When I was still learning To come along and put me down Who asked you I made it anyway While every cloud was slowly turning Who asked you Who asked you There you go again Telling me the same mistakes I made There you go again Telling me the way I should have played There never was a better way Than living like the way I've done Oh, and living is the game 'Til the very last time has come But you'll always be the same 'Til the very last time has come You're throwing it away 'Til the very last time has come Who asked you Songwriters: A. My brother was always a big fan of theirs, he has met them in the seventees they joined fans many times socially as well as at concerts in spite of how huge they were as an act, they loved arranging secret small concerts that only their closest fans were informed of, so like one I knew of happened in the small town of Retford in Nottinghamshire in a pub in the center of the town in the 90s, in spite of its secrecy, word got around and the pub filled and hundreds of fans and public filled the street and square rocking to their music blasting from within, of which the sound was turned up knowing so many more people had turned up outside.
I saw Status Quo in 1975 at Hammersmith Odeon, absolutely stonking gig hair flying everywhere. There were also a great blues / old school r 'n' b band. A lot of joy !!
Yep crowd was far as you can see. I've seen 100's bands but only one bad 100's of times! I've seen Quo 3-4 times year for 35 years! Has to be Quo. (And Americas think the bloody Beatles are the UK's number 1! Ha!)
I would like to point out that these guys were in their mid fifties when this was recorded, originally from the early seventies .You cannot remember them because you werev not born. s
It looks like Knebworth in 86, if is they were on before Queen, Quo played for nearly two hours, then Queen for nearly three hours into the evening. I was there.
This was knebworth 1990, when Quo supported queen at knebworth they played 3 gigs that day one at knebworth and two in Europe , Jeff rich the drummer passed out on stage at knebworth.
Ice In THe Sun and Pictures Of Matchstick Men,as you say, in The Late 1960's then They were expensive to watch though! Try paper plane from 1972 or Caroline from 1973. Give any of the 70s tracks a listen the list is endless backwater, softer ride, dirty water, wild side of life and what about bye bye johnny that closes every show.
That also looks like Knebworth where there performance was which is like 3 stops on a train for me as I live in the UK in a county (kind of like a state) called Hertfordshire where Knebworth is based but I live in a town called Hatfield which Status Quo did do a live show there in 2016 (before Rick died) at Hatfield House.
Quo were MASSIVE sold more records than the Stones in the UK in the 70s. Just never broke the US. Listen to all their albums up to 1981, brilliant. Especially 72 to 77.
Whatever you want released 1979. Status Quo are the uk's most successful band ever (look it up) Since Rick Parfitt death in 2016 imo are not the same band. They are still going tho after line-up changes Francis Rossi still fronts the band. They have just release the Backbone album.
If you're not at least tapping a foot or nodding your head there is something wrong. :) Quo were huge over here for something like 50 yers, until Rick passed away. I think that clip was from the Live Aid concert in 1985. Their big hits went on being played for decades.
Seem the Frantic four live, It was always fun to see them never a dull concert. You should also listen to is Is there a better way, Just take me, Backwater, Rain, Forty-five hundred times, the live version it´s 17 min though but great. Or Big fat mama. Or Down down
@Craig McCullogh Have you seen Live Aid? It was in the old Wembley Stadium, unlike this concert which is a MASSIVE open air concert, the crowd look more than double the Wembley crowd.
The thing about "Staytus Quo" (English english) was, they never did long extended instrumental versions of their songs. What you heard there was virtually what you heard on a 45rpm 7" record or a 12" LP. Unlike groups like Dire Straits, for example, where Mark Knopfler can make a 3 and a half minute song stretch out for what seems like 15 minutes!
I think you need to do your homework 😂 4500 Times a 10 min song played so many times live lasting 18mins all instrumental. The same goes for Roadhouse Blues a song they extended to 20 minutes with a medley etc and Bye Bye Johnny
You haven't heard it before, lol. Saw good, though. Sadly, you've only got Rick and Frame here. If you had Snuff and Spud along for the ride, you'd be out buying their entire catalogue. RIP, Rick ❤
As you say, huge, band, but not in the US. They toured in 70s got great reviews but radio stations would not play them. Massive everywhere, but the states.
They still giants in England. Francis Rossi, the guy with the green guitar is 72.The other guitarist, with the white guitar, Rick Parfitt, passed away a few years ago. But there's a young guy, Rich Malone, playing the rythm guitar now. So it's more or less Francis's backing band now. Even like that, they're huge in UK, and in Europe. RIP Rick.
Someone else will have to request that, I'm probably going to be unemployed soon so for now the requests I was going to have Ashtyn and Jon do for me in future are put on hold.
THE WHO & DEEP PURPLE held that title in the early 70's. I'm a massive STATUS QUO TRAGIC & I've never heard of them being the loudest. STATUS QUO are the BEST & THE GREATEST ROCK BAND IN HISTORY, not the loudest. STATUS QUO have the loudest audiences and the most loyal fans.
shit sound, like that fake stereo laid over mono. Status (pronounced stay-tus,NOT stattus) Quo are a very English band who did not break America but everywhere else on the planet. Your loss.
