From an old NAPA manager: There are really only 2 battery manufacturers in America, Johnson controls and Exide. Look it up, it's a fact. No matter who you buy your battery from, Wal-Mart, Auto Zone, wherever, it's exactly THE SAME inside with a different sticker on the case. Just be sure you are getting the correct battery for your application (CCA's, Amp hours, etc). Generally speaking if it has a white case like an Interstate Battery, it's a Johnson. Black case, Exide. The biggest killer is extreme temps hot or cold, and overcharging which will evaporate the electrolyte fluid and warp the plates, rendering it useless.

I am in snow cold Canada. I am currently using Kirkland batteries from Costco and Interstate from local suppliers. I would like to tell you how I over too many years kept up batteries for family boats. For myself and my extended family I always trickle charge at the end of the season after first ensuring they all have filtered bottled water. All batteries rest on plastic styrofoam mats in an insulated cottage. A piece of mating is also between the batteries and the outside wall. All the terminals are scraped clean and covered with either vaseline or dialectic grease. Then I cover the whole battery with a garbage bag to keep minute particles of dust off. This probably seems unnecessary but as a system it works for me. Over the years I have extended some batteries as long as 10 years or more ! I also take real care to remove corrosion from battery leads and spray them with protectant at end of season. Every spring I further charge all batteries a couple of times. This also gives me a great excuse to get away from the city. Hope this helps somebody.

I’ve been using Everstart Maxx batteries for years. But....I use the maxx29. The 29 is actually a 31 series battery. I’ve had several maxx 29’s in different boats and with a good marine charger I’m getting 6-8 years out of them. With most of the lakes I fish, they are 200-300 acres and 10hp limit so I run the heck out of the trollingmotor. My days usually start around 7am and go to around 7pm even to midnight. I’m talking 12-17hrs on the water. I fish a bunch and very long hour days. If that’s not a true testament to maxx29’s I don’t what is.

I've had tremendous luck with both starting and deep cycle EverStart batteries. It's possible you got a bad one. Most people don't charge them until they're completely dead, which will kill a battery in a year or two. They're made by Johnson Controls( actually the company that acquired Johnson Controls) and manufacture about half the batteries in existence.
@fwaynedavis
@fwaynedavis 4 года назад
Me too. I quit buying high dollar name brand, especially since almost all major brands are actually made by Johnson Controls and are the same battery. Price reflects warranty. I got 7 years out of one (I used a marine battery in my classic mustang, as I knew it would sit much more than be driven). I then used it on a solar light project for another 3 years. I think you might have just had a bad one.

What more can you ask for? I see so many videos of people trashing these batteries and have to wonder why, because these batteries have taken on everything I’ve thrown at them plus the kitchen sink!

I had an almost identical marine ever start that came in an old truck I bought, swapped it into another junk car two years later, then put in a truck I was selling to my neighbor. 6 years later, he’s still using it in the “wrong” application as a starter battery, has lasted longer than my Napa batteries and duralast batteries. I’ve been using a Everstart 29DC from Walmart for the past 8 years. Always checked the water level and charged it after every use. Never really used a maintainer (battery tender) on it and just had it checked this spring. The battery shop had to use 2 different machines to verify the overall health of the battery... Not because it was bad, but how well the battery performed for being an 8 year old battery! Like another comment on here stated there are only 2 battery manufacturers in the US. Just keep it charged and maintain the water level. No need to spend extra money on fancy brand names. Of course once in a while a few are duds but that is to be said with everything.

The Maxx line of EverStarts are really good in my experience. I have 4 in my 5th wheel and all of them are five years old. My boat battery is a 24ms Everstart and its 7yrs old. No battery will last if you don't take care of it. They have to be on a maintainer when not in use. You also can't run one down to say 50% and let it sit like that for months, it probably won't recover. If you go through multiple batteries and you can't get at least 5yrs out of one, its not the batteries, its you.

I just bought 4 27dc'from Walmart! I haven't hooked them up or even taken back the cores, but after careful con$ideration and calling several golf cart battery distributors I can say that I am 100% happy with my purchase! I have ran 500ah's of agm batteries for 2 yrs before they failed and 4 Trojan 1275's for the last 4 years before they failed, the AGMs we're nice because I never had any maintenance, bad because they cost me $2.50 an ah or in my case $250 per battery for a two year run! The Trojans at 150 amp her per 12volt battery gave me 600ah, or at least that is what I should have gotten, but only about 300- 400 ah useable, that only lasted 4 years and cost me several t shirts from acid burns plus a couple gallons of distilled water per month, if I remembered to water them... I paid $230 for each 150 ah battery. The Walmart 27dc is 109ah for $81 or $100 per battery without a core. That's just under $1.00 per ah without a core! And I get a one year replacement warranty! Try taking back a battery to a golf pro shop! The Walmart battery wins hands down! If you had a problem with your batteries, take them back and get a fresh new set! It's Walmart, I can add batteries to my solar battery bank every year without worrying about mixing new and old just by using the one year warranty, and yes the batteries will degrade enough in one year to make the warranty legit!

That battery on 55 lb thrust will only give you 1.5 hrs of juice at max speed. For my 40lb thrust minnkota recommends 110 amp hrs group 27 battery which will give me 2.25 hrs runtime at max speed. I also run 2 humminbird fish finders off it too but they don't pull much power. To calculate battery life at max speed use this formula. Battery amp hours x .85 divided by your max amp draw to get your total runtime on full battery at max speed. So for your battery in the video it looks like this. 93 amp hrs x .85 = 79.05 ÷ by your max amp draw (yours is 52) = 1.52 hrs.

I have two interstate batteries for my 24 volt trolling motors. When was a Minn kota maxxum and the new one is a Garmin force. I don't have any issues out of those batteries I've had those since 2018. I used to have a EverStart marine battery that I use for a think it was a 40 or 50 lb thrust trolling motor. I didn't have any issues out of it. I kept it on the triple charger and when I need the little boat I would use it. I have a Duracell deep cycle battery that I use for my electronics on my boat and I've had it since 2019 to 20 and it has a small leak or escape of battery ass on the top of it yet it still works good. I'm about to buy another EverStart marine battery for a little small boat I just bought. It's for my trolling motor and electronics. I really think batteries are just luck of the draw. Use it hard if you know if anything about it, swapped that thing out while you got a chance. Otherwise is going to work a long time. I haven't really had a battery that failed on me other than the automotive battery I got from o'reilly. I actually don't like batteries from O'Reilly's. AutoZone duralast batteries actually last a lot longer, but they're all from one of two manufacturers anyhow. So I really think that battery performance is based on how the battery is charged and discharged. I take great care to keep mine on chargers that not only charge it but condition the batteries. So I have spent a lot more money on the charger that I'm using on the battery.

I usually get a solid 5+ years and they're dirt cheap. You say yours didn't last you 2 years... do you realize Walmart would have replaced it for free? Even now, you can probably get a prorated price on a new battery if you take that one back. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I think your experience was the exception rather than the norm. I never let them drain down more than 75% even though they are called "deep cycle" as they are still lead acid design. when solar charging the voltage is 14 volts and I never let them drain below 12.4 . These were purchased in 2017 so we are going on 3 years. I would keep a trickle charger on them when the boat is in storage so the battery is always topped off after a full charge.

I'll probably keep it as a a back up, but will likely get an AGM as my primary.

Bought two similar 29DCs earlier this year to replace DCs from Interstate... I use them to power a trolling motor.... The casing on one of the Interstate batteries had cracked making quite a mess throughout the battery compartment... The ExerStart Maxx 29DC has a two year warranty... However, after only a few months, I started getting a charging error (i.e. Red LED) on my inboard charger... Pulled the batteries to test the cells with a hydrometer and found them to be so dry that I could only such up any water at all on 1 of the 12 cells across 2 batteries... It was not near enough to test... I called Walmart and they checked the level on a couple of new 24DCs and 29DCs that they had in stock... They too were very low on water (i.e. battery acid)... This is worrying... I am going to add some distilled water and see if they will charge... Curious to see if anyone else has experienced this and if they know why they are being shipped with what appears to be minimal water...

I bought this battery for my boat. It's a jon boat and it only runs a 28# Minn Kota and a $100 lowrance. I've taken my boat out only twice with this battery I bought brand new. Both times the battery died within 2 or 3 hours on the water. I came on RU-vid to see if there's something i can do to it (like maybe it's not filled all the way or filled with the wrong stuff or something). Its been many years since I had a boat, then I only used Delco Voyager to run my bass boat that would last all day, literally. Thanx for your advice. Another good tip, remove it for the cold months, bring it indoors, and put it on a trickle charger, keeps it strong for those long winter months, check the water levels in the battery any low fill them to the bottom of the cell with distilled water. Keep it clean and dry always, this will prolong the battery life. I’m 65 and I just had many boats in my day Learning proper battery maintenance is key, keep your battery dry and clean, it’s important, starter batteries 10 amp, deep cell 2 amps, unless you want a quick charge, but not recommended, earlier this year I had to say goodbye to a old friend, after 10 years, my everstart finally died,Well like they say, nothing lasts forever. Be smart save money, but most times I see boaters who have no idea on how to maintain the batteries on their boats, they must all be rich I guess.

The problem is not the battery. The problem is your battery usage and maintenance. Anything under 12.6 volts will sulfate the plates on any battery. The lower you draw it under 12.6 v the more it sulfates losing capacity in the process. Lead acid batteries should never ever be drawn under 50% state of charge. 12.24 volts. Under 11.89 will cause damage. Get a volt meter. You have to charge it with a high amp charger right away when you get home. The longer it sits under 12.6v the harder it is to get the sulfate off. The charger needs to be At least 15 amps to knock off the sulfate and dissolve it back into solution. The charger I use is a Schumacher sc 1280. You also need to pop off the caps and check the water in the cells. Bulk charge goes almost to 16v. It will boil off some water in the process. This is normal. Replace with distilled water. Lastly. Group 24 batteries are too small to be used by themselves. If you want to use 1 battery get a group 31.

I have 12 of the MAXX DC29 batteries on my house solar power system and 6 more of them on the well pump system. The ones running my well are now over 10 years old this month (May 2024) and the ones on the house solar power system are 5 years old. One of the batteries on the well started cooking off about 4 years ago and I replaced it with a newer back up battery which I keep fully charged at all times on a third (small) solar power back up system. The well batteries are all still doing fine at 10 years old. The house solar had a battery lose a cell last month at 5 years old. It was reading 10.9 volts while all the others were at 13 volts. I replaced that battery with a 2 year old back up MAXX DC29 in March and the system is reading float and morning voltages like new again. I suspect I should have no more problems with that system for another 5 years or so. I take extremely good care of my batteries and check fluid levels every spring and fill what needs it. 2 MAXX DC29's out of 18 going bad after all these years is not a bad deal breaker for me. I have had the Trojan batteries in the past that lasted about 8 years before cooking off and they are extremely expensive now. DC29's are at this time the cheapest and best Deep Cycles for solar in my opinion. I just bought a new one today to replace the one I removed from the house power system last month to go on the back up power system with the other back up battery. I take these ones camping, for the portable camping solar power system.

@@TheFishingEducator Thanks! Just an update on these batteries, the DC29 has been discontinued and is replaced with something called '29M' marine type battery, (the one I bought yesterday). I have a very bad feeling about these batteries however, since they have no access to the cells for distilled water topping and they have a 'green eye' electrolyte indicator included on top. The DC29 batteries had a 2 year warranty and these replacements have only a one year warranty. This new battery design is likely an environmental requirement to avoid electrolyte leakage in case of contact with water bodies during a boating mishap. I think that the good ol' days of quality, convenience, maintainability and low expense of just about everything has completely come to an end, thanks to the new greenie movement and the corrupt and incompetent governmental system country wide. The other 2 were group 27, and I use these for my Minkota power drive 55 bow mount electric trolling motors. I'm still using those two, and one of the original group 24 batteries. I've also used these batteries for years in my travel trailer with excellent service life. My newer RV came with Interstate batteries that I'm now replacing after 6 seasons of camping. I've had roughly the same kind of longevity with both of these brands. A little confused on your comment made in the video @ about 2:00, January 2016 - June 2019 (so about 3.5 yrs old) but it had only lasted 1 year? Maybe you didn't start using it until 2018 and it conked out in 2019 because it had been sitting around without being on a tender for 2 yrs or so??? I know I bought at least one EverStart Marine 27DC 800 MCA in July 2017 for my trolling motor (strong). The other, just went bad this past weekend in April 2021, has a B6 sticker on it (that translates to February 2006). That would be an incredible 15 yrs old!!! I really wish I could remember if that was accurate or more likely if that's a sticker error and should read B"16" (Feb. 2016), but either way gives you an idea that for cheap batteries, they are worth it. And I think it only went bad because I let the water get low. I put distilled water in it and trickle charged it, and now it seems to be holding a charge last 24hrs. Might be taking the new one I bought back! Recommend putting these on a battery tender and checking the water twice a year and they are worth it! Sorry, long comment I know.

Also there are better batteries yes you pay for what you get 250 + for a good one.

I use the EverStart battery as my primary Deep Cycle, and it has been working fine for 2 years and counting.

Majority of reviews for this battery are great. Better than most other brands from what I've seen.

I might have to give them another try.

Ive had nothing but good luck with mine, just replaced a set of everstarts that lasted 7 years, although, i used them frequently and always kept the boat plugged in while not in use.

Hi. Why does it say 24Dc if it's a 12 v battery?
@TheFishingEducator
@TheFishingEducator Год назад
DC = Deep Cycle....24 is related to the size of the battery

Had the same battery that I use for my 55lbs thrust trolling motor battery for 5 years been good just switched to a 29 DC battery hopefully it works as long as the 24 DC did. My opinion is it's a pretty good battery for the money. Hope this helps god bless.
