I visited chicago for a day then there was a snow storm and my bus back home got canceled, so l booked a cheap hostel called "hi chicago" in downtown, 3-minute walk from chicago public library. it was like $37 on princeline.com. I stayed in a 10-bed female dorm. That night only about 6 beds were occupied. Everyone was polite and quiet. I slept for 10 hours and had a restful night. That night the hostel also had a welcome party in the lobby and served us with free drinks and hotdogs. We chatted with other travelers who also stayed here. One couple is from Australia and Scotland, one lady is from Argentina, one lady from Africa. An unexpected and fun experience.
