Do you ever look back at these videos and see how you and Scott work so easily together. That kitchen cleaning was a perfect "dance" of two people working together.

I don't know. But I guess I have put enough time in figuring out where things go, it makes sense and we don't bump into each other anymore.

@@mygreatchallenge Based on the ease of you two working together in there I would say you have done a great job figuring out where things work best. Thank you for all the inspiration! I tackled something in my house that was very overwhelming this weekend lots of sweat and tears but I remembered your honesty about how hard it is. Knowing I am not alone in the challenge not only gave me the courage to start, but to not quit! Thank you for that!

As I get older (I'm 63) I look for easier methods to help me in the garden. I'm a big fan of smothering turf with cardboard and weighing the cardboard down with bags of soil or just pouring mulch directly on top. I have sandy soil so have little experience with clay. There's a NJ garden designer you may want to view some of her YT videos (Y Garden). Yulia has one on "No dig method." Under my kitchen sink I kept a lidded dishwasher tab container and restock it with those smaller bagged tabs. I had an extra glass canister so filled it with SOS pads. Now I can see when I'm running low and need to restock. I'm lucky (intentionally so) to have my laundry room off my kitchen. I had the contractor reuse one of my old upper cabinets and install it above my washer and dryer. That's where I keep all my less-often-used cleaning supplies. And it's at eye level. I'm excited to see more of your water-diverting project. I love your green planter you added the vine to. Make sure to fertilize that patio tomato with organic fertilizer. Yum, your lunch looked so good. That tender was enormous!

Stuff the bags in an empty tissue box. If it gets full get another empty tissue box. If that gets full then gather the leftovers and drop them in the bin at Wal-Mart. It will be way easier to get your supplies under the sink. All the best, ~K~

Hi Sophia. Just want to thank you for posting this video. While I watched it a while back and thought you did an excellent job, I don't have similar water problems, so it was more out of curiosity that I took interest in the dry well/french drain system. Imagine today, while talking to a neighbor, racking my brain to come up with a solution for his backyard water problem, that I thought of your system. He probably wont need the french drain part, but could connect his downspouts to the dry well to help when his back yard floods. So thank you for being the inspiration to be a helpful neighbor here in Michigan. You always do a great job and I really look forward to all of your videos.

I would direct as much “clean” water down the driveway as possible including the garage roof downspouts and the overland flow coming across the driveway. That depressed curb to me was a bad idea by the previous owner and should probably be raised to at least match the other blocks, unless you’re concerned about water freezing on the driveway. That dry well will fill quickly. You could also try to uncompact your lawn soil at some point.
@mygreatchallenge

I would have to have the driveway torn apart amd repaved. It s not straight and tips towards the yard. Not practical at the moment.

Great video. I know what you're going through. We live in the mountains and until we put in pipes to drain the banks where water was draining into the yard making a pool we could swim in, it was a mess. We ran drain pipes from the backyard underground to the culvert in the drive and onto the stream at the woods. It's a back breaking job. Looks like you're on the right path. Take care.

Oh Sophia, when you mentioned you have red clay in your soil, I had to laugh because I've lived in NJ and now I live in the Piedmont region of NC and boy do we have red clay here in abundance! That is all the soil is here & it is impossible to dig in or put in a garden without lots and lots of "elbow grease"! Of course, you are doing lots of hard work for sure! I so admire all you are doing and you just inspire me with every video. I look forward to seeing each one! ~M. Ashton

We had many sheet metal/HVAC journeymen in my family so duct tape was a staple when I was growing up. My Dad would temporarily patch his gray work pants from the cuts caused by sheet metal creating a headache for my Mom. Before washing them she had to find and remove each patch (gray tape on gray fabric) so they would not clog the washing machine or get stuck on other clothes. 😒 Duct tape still rules supreme in my house for a myriad of temporary fixes. 😄 I love what you've done in your yard!! ❤

I would suggest going to Walmart and getting a plastic drawer which will enable you to store the bags but also give you space on top for more storage. I use this system under the kitchen and bathroom sinks to gain double the storage space. I actually double stacked in the bathroom and labeled the drawers.

Lots of hard work. I hope the drain works the first time so you don't have to dig towards the back. I have drainage problems also in my back yard. My yard is lower than everyone around me so their water drains into my yard so anytime it rains heavy the water ponds. I already tried fill but I need lots more but it would take a lot of dirt since my yard is big. Watching your project makes me think we need a drain as well. I would love to buy Kerrygold butter but because of dairy import laws it is hard to find unless you bring it in from the US or get it online and don't get caught.

Not being able to buy disinfectant wipes (in Australia) I made my own. I had a carton of baby wipe packets, and a large bottle of Dettol. I pour two capfuls of dettol into a baby wipe packet. Same thing, only a lot cheaper. When I am out of iso I won't go back to buying expensive disinfectant wipes.

It is not duct tape ever in space. It is more likely a form of masking tape (not affected by water, only releases with alcohol) or kapton tape (heat resistant also impervious to most moisture except alcohol. I use masking tape for so many things patches etc. also duct tape is highly static so a no go in flight or space.
