My favorite headcannon: Alastor does know modern tech, he just pretends not to in order to shit on it and fuck with people. He still genuinely likes his time's tech better, but he still knows his way around everything else. EDIT: PEOPLE I KNOW IT ISNT CANNON COMPLAINT ANYMORE!!! I know he knows his way around tech, and that he doesn't really hide it. I just find the idea of Alastor doing this hilarious, and it was my favorite headcannon before the release. Even more than husk liking catnip and laser pointers, because cat.
@@sebastianb.3978 if you look at his broadcast dashboard at the end you can see Alastor has modernized his radio technology. He just hates video not necessarily technology in general.
You kidding? That is modern media now. Television news media overall these days are beginning to lose viewers to citizen journalists and podcasters on sites like RU-vid and Twitch alone. 😂
@@Ibeatgod689 exactly! Alastor may seem narcissistic and all but unlike Adam,he never went around saying stuff like “I’m fckin Adam! I’m thee fckn man!” or all the other stuff he’s said. Alastor just shows how he seems narcissistic and he smiles to make sure he shows that he’s in control rather than saying it. He also never said he was in charge unlike Vox. This man really knows the phrase “actions speak louder than words” he can hide his true feelings with a smile and show them with his too. You wonder why he’s so powerful and he keeps winning these singing battles- the reason he lost the fight to Adam is because he took it completely unserious and he fought for himself at the moment. When Carmilla sang “out for love” and explained how to fight for love and family to Vaggie, she said you cant win when your fighting because of selfishness. He fought for himself and lost, the creators also wanted Lucifer to show up and show how powerful he was so he also lost because of that. I’m sorry I just realized I wrote a whole book 😅
@@Luckystars_the1nonlyThe only exception I can think of is when Mimzy brings the loan sharks to the hotel. Vaggie is about to step in and defend the hotel, but Alastor takes matters into his own hands. While he doesn't exactly brag or bolster about his strength, he very much stated that what he was about to do was a reminder of who he was and what he was capable of, but that still falls in line with Alastor. He doesn't intend to use his power to rule Hell. He just wants to be left to his own devices.
@@Addy_OsiiI think Twenty meant that Alastor had to go out of his way to learn these things because they came way after his time(like 80-100 years after)
Just because he doesn’t like or support tv/internet/technology in general doesn’t mean he is ignorant of it. He’s aware, he just prefers radio 😎 And fuck Vox 😂
Especially funny since Alastor probably looked at that deer head and instead of being intimidated just went "Oh hey that looks tasty, might I recommend some spices or seasoning for that deer head?" 😂
Vox speaks so fast and breathlessly he actually hurts his own diss track. He’s nervous and it shows. Alastor is laid back and confident with his lines, so he comes off as more just telling it as it is than trying to prove something.
Two things I really love about the animation: 1) They're fully committed to showing how panicked and insecure Vox is with every facial expression (especially after he literally said publicly gunning for someone looks pathetic) He's trying to do Alastor's "smile to fool everyone" and failing spectacularly at it. I wonder if he got that same advice in the past, just like how Al explains it to Charlie later on. 2) The fact that Vox tries to visually block the radio from sight, as if that will do anything (and then the shift to him still doing that inside his own screens) I don't know if it's him panicking, or being so self-absorbed that he can't conceptualize how other media works, but it's great.
I saw a tumbler post about this, saying their headcannon was that Vox gets flustered or panicked, he forgets how old tech works, trying to block the sound waves with his body as if it were a screen on reflex, unintentionally drawing more attention to it. He's just a big goober and I love him
I love how Vox is generally really calm and collected like when he easily handled Velvette and Val's issues without breaking a sweat, but when the minute it concerns Alastor all that intelligence goes out the window and he ends up looking so pathetic,😂
Christian Borle is a phenomal actor and performer! For similar levels of unhinged charisma in one of his roles, I'd recommend his performance as William Shakespeare in the Broadway musical Something Rotten - for specific songs "Will Power", "Hard To Be The Bard" and the duet "Bottom's Gonna Be On Top". An absolutely hilarious performance and show 🤣
This is So true too! Replace the line with "He'd be Powerless with nothing on TV" And what's the most viewed things? Porn and whatever is Trending They of course need his medium but without their content.. hes just a blank screen
@@ZenofireX Funny thing about that... they really DON'T.^^ They'd be less powerful for sure, but they'd STILL be influential even without him. Sex has ALWAYS sold and people have been chasing trends since the beginning after all.

In Italian the beef is even funnier because the VAs for Alastor and Vox are brothers, so this song is practically two brothers having an argument in front of all of Hell
Love how alastor is the master of intruding on other peoples songs and roasting them. Its funny how terrifying and evil he is but most the time he just acts like a petty asshole.
Imagine you get out of ur tailors shop woth a repaired coat. You put one step putside and the whole street is watching several tvs actively dissing you in an elaborate musical number. Wouldn’t you respond?😂
It's kinda funny that Vox went and did exactly what he told Val not to do. Like, if he'd just ignored Alastor instead of trying to make a spectacle and "prove" how powerful he was, Al would've had to rebuild his listening body from the ground up. Instead, most of Hell probably heard Vox scrabble at controlling the narrative, fail miserably, and are now tuning in to Alastor's radio if only to see what's got Vox so worked up.
@@Supaslasher its also just...so funny because like, the Radio demon, you would likely expect to know that he has control over all things radio. and TV uses these funny little things to transmit...little waves what were they called...oh yeah. *Radio Waves*
@@liamsapong8078 sorry I can’t help but observe and wonder about the characters they’re all just so interesting. But your right best to enjoy the show and go with the flow.
It’s my personal headcannon Angel taught him modern slang accidentally; he uses the slang then has to explain to Alastor, who immediately starts using it perfectly
"This baby grand thinks he's the bee's knees when really he's when really he's just a rag-a-muffin dewdropper, who thinks everything's jake! He has no rizz to speak of, is a buzz-kill and a pathetic Munz-watcher, what a gas, aim'mrite?"
A rivalry between two evil sassy grinning twinks in steampunk suits with quirky powers and edgy designs in the form of a jazzy/swing musical number. This is peak 2010s Tumblr aesthetics.
When the TV is buffering, the screen says "we have detected following problem: alastor.exe" It doesn't even show for more than 1 second. The attention to detail is immaculate
I love how Vox tries to keep his composure at the start, but eventually just devolves into straight-up death threats by the end. Alastor on the other hand, he NEVER loses his composure. No question about who won this.
“A smile is a valuable tool, my dear. It inspires your friends, keep your enemies guessing, and ensures that no matter what comes your way, you're the one in control.”
Alastor definitely won. If Vox had stayed calm and hadn’t mentioned him, maybe Alastor would have had to build his viewership back up gradually, but Vox got nervous. He’s extremely intimidated by Alastor, and he makes that so obvious.
@lovemelongtime8936 Alastors part is actually a little slower too. Really mimicks how Vox seems to be much more energetic and burns out fast while Alastor plays the long game.
@@marymystery4427the thing is its based on radio vs tv. Radio takes a slower more explanative approach, and rarely ever burn out before the interview is over, and it usually is often truthful. With alastor admitting he never lies on air. Tv is often fast. Your burnt out by the excessive information that appears, barraged by memes, videos, trends, other ‘*VIDEOS.*’ etc. and also full of lies, representing vox lieing to himself.
I love the little detail of how Vox seems quite nervous throughout his part of the song. Almost as if he’s desperately trying to convince himself of Alistair’s irrelevance.
Same, and how throughout their duet(ish) part ( 1:30), Vox uses a lot more effort to "get the attention on him", literally having to shove at the divider, and pushing and pulling at the borders of the visuals to be seen. Meanwhile, Alastor just has to poke, or even just stand there and let Vox's momentum push the scene back to Alastor. His expression being his usual smile while Vox struggles to keep up appearances, too. It's just really nice to see all the little details and thought behind how the visual metaphors are set up.
Vox tried really hard to insult Alastor with useless attacks and approaches, Alastor insults were spot on and direct, with no sarcasm using Vox own logic and true flaws
I like how Vox is constantly moving from one thing to another and talking as fast as possible while Alastor is just sitting at his desk and talking pretty calmly
Vox had actually a really good build up to being a villain imo. I liked how it showed that he basically controlled the town by brainwashing people. I also like how he can travel through electronic devices! His badass build up made Alastor even more badass!
I love how much fun Al is having with this. When he leaves the shop and see Vox smack talking him, he can’t pass up the opportunity to rush back home and get on air. It’s one of the few times we see Al smile genuinely.
My favorite part of this music video is Alastor leaves the tailor shop to mend Sir Pentious’ tear to his suit, but leaves the other tears in the back in tact. Like, wut?
Vox starting the song with "Welcome home; I'm gonna make you wish that you'd stayed gone" and then Alastor's reprise starting with "Let's begin. I'm gonna make you wish that I'd stayed gone; tune on in!" Is SUCH A POWER PLAY OMG 😂
I love how vox has the james bond style shark pit, and the tech and SUIT, whilst the dude whos significantly more powerful than him, even in convincing the public has a little radio tower and a mic he doesnt even use
Everyone’s saying Alastor cut the power to make a point, but I had assumed Vox short-circuited the system he was plugged into, and by extension all of hell connected to it, by losing his shit explosive-baby-tantrum-style
@@Supaslasher Especially how Alastor is like “looks like you’ve lost your signal” in the same way one might say “you lost your temper” and then dismiss your further arguments as emotional and irrational lol
If you pause to read the blue screen, it seems it is because of a file on his system called "Alastor". And Alastor was able to keep talking to him even after signal was lost.
yeah, thats what i thought, vox plugged himself into the system, and then he lost his temper. Alastor had nothing to do with it. heck, he's not even on the system.
@@possessedpicklejar4762 To be fair if I had the radio demon as a regular client I'd make sure everybody knew, they wouldn't even dare tell me I did a bad job
When Vox says "Gotta show who's really in charge now" reminds me of the line from GOT where Tywin says "Any man who says "I am the King", is no King at all."
@drunklessdylan1234 From what I can understand, it means his medium (how something is transmitted) (for example, the sound we hear goes through the "medium" of air before reaching our ears, just as Alastor's voice goes through the medium of a radio) Saying it's getting bloody rare simply means radios are old and tvs are the new thing. The second meaning is related to meat just as vox is shown cooking meat is rated between rare - medium - and well done, which indicates how its cooked By vox saying his medium is getting rare it also means that the meat is getting less cooked just as shown by the deer
@@Crackheadcentral2188 no i think when val references that he means that Alastor chose to show vox mercy and since vox's ego is so big he couldn't take it evertime someone brings it up. I also think Alastor chose to to Vox mercy since A: they were at some point good friends and B: Alastor loves mocking and battling Vox since he gets so much entertainment from it
@@Crackheadcentral2188 It does, because if you lost to someone why would you act more stronger to someone you lost to? Vox got mad at Val for pointing at that Al nearly beat him. Was it mercy? No clue or maybe the other 2 V's interrupted and they're not exactly pushovers so can Al take on all 3 at the same time? No clue really, but we do know that Al is very strong and tbh only lost to adam because Al was blinded by his ego more and didn't focus enough on the battle, you can tell by just how he fought because Al only used shadow magic but he has more than shadow magic on his hand so ig he didnt take adam serious during the fight. But, in the end I think Al showed mercy to Vox during their fight for some reason, my opinion on that is because there is minor clues about vox and alastor being ex friends or even brothers.
Rewatching this more times that are considered healthy I came to the conclusion that Vox and Alastor had some kind of partnership unrelated to the Vees alliance(that already existed) in the past, and analising all the hate and resentment he have for Alastor, enough to even after 7 years be triggered by his name, he probably truly liked Alastor, romantically or not, and he thought that Alastor felt the same way or similar about him, and felt terribly backstabbed when Alastor didn't agree to join the Vees alliance/be a part of Vox's productions. Alastor, more powerful than Vox, almost killed him in the disagreement(because Vox probably was feeling so hurt that his reaction was to attack), but because of the Vees alliance Valentino and Velvete had to intervene and together they brushed Alastor off That's why Valentino mocks at Vox in the begging asking if he's still mad after seven years, Alastor saying that he'd be powerless without the other Vees(and the smile to confirm that they know it) and Vox sensitivity to this topic in specific(it still hurts his ego and he hold grudges even when he's tecnically more powerfull now that Alastor had been gone for such a long time) And, in between us, Alastor is right Radio is indeed old, but TV is getting old as well with the internet, smartphones, computers and etc Valentino and Velvete are clearly more powerfull now, Vel have the control over all the social media that influences tons of people everyday, and porn industry today moves millions of dolars every year, making Val clearly more powerfull Vox probably was pretty strong by his own in the past, but now almost no one sees television anymore and non-smart TVs almost don't exist(at least in the country I live) too I even think that Valentino and Velvet still have an alliance with Vox because he's good at manipulating and hypnotising the sinners and making propaganda of them I hope that in season two we see more of the Vees alliance, bc for me Valentino and Velvete don't care about Vox at all and are just using him, while he is the only one that truly belives that a sort of twisted friendship(and relationship) exist between them, because they are what lasted from the past
" the sugar on the cream" is such a good phrasing because it's very obviously a variation on " icing on the cake" or" cherry on the sundae" but manages to add a layer of anachronistic poshness so fitting for Alistor and jives perfectly with the " tea" aspect
I noticed that Vox spends his half of the song with a constant grin on his face, only for that to drop when Alastor interrupts him. He's trying so hard to imitate Alastor's "smile to hide your true feelings" technique, but he can't because he lacks Alastor's composure.
It's so funny to me that Alastor's newly-mended coat still has all those rips in it. Either that's his aesthetic, or he only got the one corner fixed specifically to spite Sir Pentious.
I find it funny how Vox stopped Val from going to the hotel saying that it would make them look weak. Then he has a whole song against Alastor which makes him look weak.
This is the only Hazbin Hotel song I can listen to multiple times in a sitting. Most of the others songs I enjoy as well, but usually just enough to listen once until the next time, but this I have to listen to this song, it’s that fun
The funniest lines to me are "Stop giving him the time of day!/Don't listen to a word he'd say!" Vox, they weren't giving him the time of day, you're giving him the time of day
It looked like Alastor wasn’t even trying to take Vox’s attack seriously. Instead he had fun with it and completely won. Just shows who’s really in charge of things now.
He is so superior in every way that Vox can't really upset him any insult he does just comes off as an 8 year old trying to insult an Olympic gold medalist
@@yami122well technically vox being the tv devil upsets him he’s just much more mature about it plus it helps he can wreck vox whenever he wants since vox can’t hold his cool when Alastair is involved
I think the fact Alastor hasn't killed Vox yet says a lot. Alastor is not a stable individual, if he could kill Vox he would. Based on Valentino's "he almost beat you that time" it seems the two are evenly matched (with Vox ever so slightly winning out). In other words,it's mutally assured destruction so instead they have these petty arguments. The other option is that they're actually still friends and this whole drama is fake (like a lot of internet drama) in order to get more fan engagement
the tv vs radio thing is interesting. Vox goes all out on visuals, trying his best to convince everyone that the radio demon is nothing to fear or respect, while alastor only has to speak into the microphone to fight back. vox needs choreography, lighting, set design, cuts, wipes, zooms, and a thousand other things, while alastor just needs to sit back, relax, and spill the tea.
Ok journalism student here who's done podcast and TV production, i wanted to just completely go nuts about this whole song and your comment inspired me to do it so here we go: I saw someone before in another comment section mention how Vox has a whole chorus backing him while Al just does a solo, that also goes for his crew. Depending on equipment and how prepared someone is for a broadcast I'd say you at least need 4 people for a really rudimentary TV broadcast whereas you'd need maybe like 1 to 3 people to run a really basic radio show, especially if they're just doing it live and don't need a script or to fact check anything. I also wanted to gush about how they added the countdown to the song (the whole 3, 2.. thing), cause that's actually something you'd do on set. The camera person will count down on their hands going 3, 2 then silently 1 before cueing the anchor. Vox also switches between a few different formats/styles (his typical anchor at the table, sit down talk show with a guest, some type of commercial or like those masses on TV, some kind of on site reporting when Vox is in his little sailor costume but it also could be like those clips you'd see played on gameshows that show whatever vacation spot the prize is, and the cooking segment). Youll see that a lot of video based media does this, switching between differnet formats/styles, big stations will keep a typical format or branding but will change up stuff to keep up with the times. Actually, fun fact, a rule in the industry is that a clip can only be on screen for 4-6 seconds before you need to cut to another clip. Added with Vox being as stressed as he was and its ho wonder it went so fast, it's a means of distraction and keeping attention. Same thing with how Vox speaks. He's not slurring his words, but you can tell it's rushed. He talks fast while Al has a bit of a drawl in his voice. It makes sense too since Al only has his voice while Vox uses his visuals to make up the difference, you can also see that sometimes when people read off a teleprompter, because it keeps going up it can get a bit stressful and you feel the need to talk faster and take fewer breathes. Hopefully some of that made sense, but yeah I think that's everything
True. I also noticed the detail based on Vox's tempo and speed that he's noticeably putting in more effort (you could even argue trying too hard even before Alastor joins in) while Alastor is more self-assured and not really exerting that much effort.
@@TheKersey475 someone mentioned that in both Stayed Gone (Vox vs Alastor) and Hell's Greatest Dad (Lucifer vs Alastor), in both cases, Alastor rarely breathes loud enough to be heard, almost like he's inhuman, whereas on the other hand, the king of hell and a literal TV seem to take massive, deep, noticeable breaths inbetween their lyrics.
Fun fact:Vox breaks after he tries to put himself in front of Alastor, trying to put Alastor on camera. So it's not rage that made Vox break like most think. It's the same thing that broke Vaggie’s camera.
I love that right after Vox tells Valentino not to go after Angel Dust, the minute he hears that Alastor is back Vox jumps striaght into verbally insulting him on air. I know its chasing after employees vs. your enemy, but I feel like if Vox didn't act on the news immediately he probably would've looked better publicly.
Everyone's got their sore spot. Vox's is Alastor, as this video showed. Hell, for most of the scenes Vox is in, he's actually fairly collected but the SECOND Alastor was brought up he completely loses his shit.
@@jahrusalem3658all the way up until now in this episode, vox has shown to be pretty calculated compared to the other two. he's a master manipulator of the public, keeps a rather "charming" facade most of the time such as when talking to velvette, and his annoyance is held back to be quite mild like when he learns val's causing a ruckus. he's also the one to calm down val which displays a level of power he does have and then the SECOND he hears about alastor he completely *loses* it and becomes the punching bag

Dont you think its a bit out of character for alastor not to act on that yet? Like he threatened vox then never did anything about it? Theories are open people.
@@BlueDrawz-qy2tt Not really, he's not in any hurry to beat him. Between the two of them Vox is the only one who sees the other as a genuine threat, Alastor seems to just consider Vox an amusing pest (despite not being able to beat him the first time, he's a smug deer thing.)
“So the radio guy’s back. I don’t think you noticed, I didn’t at first. I was too busy being a much more interesting and important person, but fuck it, news is slow today I guess. I’m totally not worried about this guy and neither should you be. I totally wrecked his shit” is what the news scroll says under Vox’s broadcast
I love the little detail that alastors neck was sown like he's a puppet, and that his antlers were flowing for a short bit, as well as the X in his head indicating where he was shot before he died as he shot by a hunter as he was dressed as a deer while trying to hide body
Don't get me wrong, Alastor's VA killed this, but let us also acknowledge Vox's VA Christian Borle and his performance here. You really get Vox's annoyance and hatred while still singing really well. I actually saw Christian Borle Live in "Something Rotten" and he was great there (I also have picture with him) . He is a great performer.
I love how this starts off like it's going to be Vox's villain song, only for Al to totally hijack it and reveal it was actually HIS villain song all along. Banger number 🙌
I really hope Vox has his "moment", because Alastor only *almost* beat him. Which means Vox *won*. I wanna see Vox in his true element, the Vox that won against Alastor.
One of my favorites so far, I love Alastor’s sequence at the end when he starts changing form. He was my favorite in the pilot as well, besides Husk and Angel.
