I am almost 70 yrs old, been playing regularly since age 7. I have seen all of you 400+ videos, many of them multiple times. This one explaining the rotation of both forearms to keep the arms close to the body on the downswing is genius. It may be the most important advise I have ever received. Please restate it often and with emphasis in your videos. Thank you for you selfless devotion to the game and to our playing of it. I am coming to London in late May and plan to take a trip north to visit you, take a lesson, and thank you personally for saving my game. I'll book on your website when my dates gel.

Russell you are providing great content and as someone who has never compressed the ball even though I strike the ball reasonably well I realise from all your videos that I don't move enough weight forward at impact, I almost never take a divot or hear the ball fizzing off the club face. I'm working on keeping the sternum at the ball and ensuring my right elbow is leading the arm but the rotation of the left arm coming in to release has transformed impact on some shots. Still a work in progress. Thanks. Dave.

Made a long time ago, but still very accurate. Somehow I missed the connection part in my swing for a long time, but thankfully got it back...I've also adopted more the finish of some of the modern players ala Tommy Fleetwood. For an amateur, playing 27 holes a week and not practicing, I'm very happy with my game, and working more on improving the short game aspects.

Very good suggestion for keeping the arms close. Will try at range and get back. Thanks

I am 6’2” tall and have a flat backswing which is killing me, as you mentioned. If i just turn back and lift my arms straight up it looks much better, but i loose that connection. I like your idea of tilting my shoulders more, which ties in nicely to adding a bit of spine extension at the top as well. Will give it a try.......Thx!

Thanks for all yr lessons. Golf instruction is very poor in my country. A video on hitting 3 wood or a19 degree hybrid off the tee would be of great help as i do not use a driver yet. Thanks

I have difficulty in having my left arm on my shoulder line....my arm swing is flat. Any suggestions or swing thoughts in getting to the position you advocate....do you lift your left arm to this position? Does flexibility have a role to play as to the ability to achieve this position? Thx. Tom
@russellheritagegolf
@russellheritagegolf 5 лет назад
I would suggest your not creating enough tilt in the shoulders which flattens the golf swing. You can always send your swings into the channel.

Russel thanks for this tip. When does the supinate of left arm and flex ion of left wrist start relative to the initial driving forward of right elbow? I feel the more I focus on trying to the former it makes the elbow want to get stuck or steepen swing.
@russellheritagegolf
@russellheritagegolf 5 лет назад
The rotation of the forearm would depend on how much the elbow drives forward, the larger the lateral bend and the elbow drive the more rotation of the forearm and the flexion of the left wrist would be needed. Send in the swing

Of all you great tips, this one creates confusion for me. Rotation with the body and bringing the arms in makes sense, but the rotation of the left/right forearms seems to block getting the elbow in front of the body. Is there a part missing or am I misunderstanding the concept?

This was a really complicated video, just put them right in the back swing with correct plane where left arm and the hands are not to flat, and from there you are in a good position

Good and clear advice but as others have said the music is only a distraction. At the outset you make it clear that this guidance is your thought process therefore there is no need to repeatedly be saying in your opinion as it can be seen as you constantly trying to justify your content which can dilute your message. I like your clear thought process so can you give some advice on best way to deal with undulating lies and ground conditions which is really relevant at this time of year. Keep up the good work.

Oh for goodness sakes. This isn’t a term paper. Nobody is lord of the golf swing. Sounding authoritative doesn’t necessarily apply. In my opinion stating “in my opinion” in a golf lesson signals honesty and a clear understanding of the scale of the game.

Having a hell of a time keeping my hands close. When I do I pure the ball every time. If I don’t i chunk… I almost feel like I have to hit my leg every time to hit the ball properly. Hopefully this helps.

I have found that when I try to rotate more with the upper body as you recommend , And try to keep my right elbow tucked in front of my right hip, I tend to Shank the ball. Is it because my hands are forced further away from my body??? I’ve been taught to limit Over rotation of my forearms on my take-away to increase consistency on the downswing. How much is too much forearm rotation?

There’s nothing really “connected” about a good golf swing. Sequenced...yes, connected...no.
