Don’t miss this in Japan! 🇯🇵 What is a ryokan? ⤵️
A ryokan is a Japanese-style inn. You can find them all over Japan. Ryokans include dinner, often served in the privacy of your own room. They typically feature tatami-matted rooms, public baths or hot springs with a peaceful environment. A ryokan is for travelers who wish to experience Japanese culture and enjoy the comforts of Japanese hospitality and service.
Our favorite part of this experience was getting to wear kimonos around the hotel, sleeping on tatami mats, and of course, relaxing in the onsens.
If you want to see what our experience was like, you can watch our full video.
Would you stay in a ryokan?

Sure! We stayed at Wakakusa no Yado Maruei. It was definitely our most expensive night in Japan, it was close to $400, but that included dinner & breakfast, and we also paid more to have the private hot tub with Mt. Fuji views. Totally worth it in our opinion! The rest of our hotels in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka averaged $80-$100. I’m sure the prices vary a lot with ryokans, we booked ours about 2 months out and it was hard to find availability at the Mt. Fuji ones at that point! So definitely book as far in advance as possible. ☺️
