Here is the link to the HSK past paper exams for chinese I mention in this video if you're interested (not affiliated or anything ^^ found them on my own): www.confuciusinstitute.manchester.ac.uk/study/testing/hsk/hsk-learning-resources/ **You should note that these don't seem like they are the exact ones you would get in reality, since in my understanding, the exam has now got 9 levels instead of the original 6 levels.
This was so motivating! For me the beginning of the year was pretty slow, but now that I built some momentum with studying and immersion, I think I might need to revise my goals as well around halfway through the year. I think it's so much better to be flexible with them instead of settling for the initial ones that you already know you'll be able to achieve sooner than expected ❤
New viewer here, and wow! You're making great progress! I've been learning (Mandarin) Chinese for a year and a half and I'm struggling to get properly into B2, but it's always inspiring to see other people working hard! I really should get around to making goals in between my multi-year and weekly ones. My super long term goal is to be comfortable speaking at the level of a native Chinese speaking college student and be able to study abroad and take some classes in Chinese. Meanwhile, my weekly goals are more along the lines of 'study 1 hr every day' and 'finish next chapter of graded reader'. So thanks for the inspiration to work on mid-length goals :D
Wow, this is so interesting and amazing to see how much you improved especially in Mandarin Chinese and Russian. Are you planning to take the actual exams in those languages as well at some point like you did with the JLPT or do you stick with self-testing. I never been tested officially in English like TOEFEL or so on. Never felt like I need that to improve. Still I can say confidently I’m fluent although it’s never been tested. However I feel like when it comes to Japanese now, I need that proof to allow myself to proceed with higher level content. So that’s why I will definitely sit the N5 at one point , although I know I don’t actually need that certificate. So I was wondering if you feel similar with your languages especially since you took all the JLPTs? Would be interesting to hear your thoughts. Until next time 👋🏻
I have only sat N5 and N1, once each, and the rest was self-testing with japanese! And before that, I sat the TOEFL iBT once ^^ I am perfectly okay with self-testing if I don't need proof of a certificate, I will talk about that in a future video!!
Congrats!! Do you find you underestimate your goals regularly? I tend to overestimate my goals and it seems like it would be more motivating to knock it out early rather than have too high of expectations and be disappointed 😊
Actually not at all! Ever since I left the beginner phase for Japanese it had been a while since I formulated goals that were underestimated: that is because this year I finally started studying Chinese and Russian seriously, so I did not yet know how fast or slow I would go 😊
Congratulations!! 🎉 Your journey is so inspiring! A have a question. How did you learn pinyin on your own? I'm interested in learning Chinese in the future and because of my circumstances I can't have classes. But I fear from the pronunciation. Lot of people give the advice to master the pronunciation (aka pinyin) in the first weeks or even months of studying the language but how can I do it on my own? What was or is your method? :-)
Mastering Chinese pronunciation takes years for non-natives! But pinyin you learn naturally when learning new words and seeing them in context 🥰 immersion will be your best friend 👍🏻😊
Congrats! You've already made so much progress this year. I revised my 2024 goals after watching your "Fool-Proof" Goal Setting Method video. I found that video to be very helpful. Thank you for all your wisdom! 😁
Incredible 😂❤ I also went through the same revising process with my chinese, I thought that I could aim for a HSK2+A2.1 level for 2024 but, but I think I could finally reach A2-HSK3, by september, and start my a2+/b1 journey in autumn!
