Stendan had a passionate, fiery love, while Starry have a calmer, more loveable relationship. I do feel sorry for Harry though, because Ste is the love of his life, yet it seems to be that Brendan was the love of Ste's. (I ship both Starry and Stendan)

I mean yeah he will never love like he loved Brendan ( the guy is the love of his life) but the truth is NO ONE can ever love Ste the way Brendan does.. he loved every part of him! The good and the bad and he respected him, and he actually believed Ste was worth the world. Ste and Brendan had this kinda love you only touch once in a lifetime! And they both lost it.. 💔 Harry is nice but he's no Brendan. At the end of the day if it came to choose between his life and Ste's he'd choose his. He wouldnt sacrifice everything for him. #stendan 🖤

Ste used to be an abusive boyfriend to Amy. Yes domestic abuse is terrible and completely criminal, but people can change if they get the help and support needed. Both Ste and Brendan fought through their rage and aggression by addressing the underlying causes and we able to stop abusing their partners and live on happily and both Ste and Brendan were friends / lovers with their respective partners by the end of their run (Ste is currently on very good terms with Amy and when Brendan left the show he and Ste were in love).
I work for a women's shelter and I believe it is possible to get help and stop being abusive. I just don't believe that you can stay in the same relationship. If you have been abused, you will always be careful of what you do and unconsciously be wary of how you act and notice every little change of mood in your partner because you know what could happen. I don't believe you will ever be able to truly trust that person again. You may be able to become friends if your abuser gets help. And the abuser may be able to be in another loving relationship, but I don't believe they can ever be together with each other.
I've never been in that situation or even experience it through a friend or family member so I really can't say, but I think the show does a great job of making Ste the person who helps Brendan come out of his abusive shell and come to terms with his sexuality and so stop beating people up because Ste had been an abuser before and that is why he could stay in the relationship, because he understood that, in this case, there was an underlying problem that caused Brendan's abuse and if he worked through that he would be ok. This is also just a show and not real life and I have no actual experience with domestic abuse but I thought the show made it quite realistic in that Ste had gone through the same thing himself and that's why he stayed as Brendan worked through it and after, because he understood it from Brendan's point as well. But, again, it's just a show so idk I just liked shipping stendan but I'm not sure how I would feel if faced the situation in real life.
I agree that the show did a very good job with that storyline. The way the showed the abusive relationship was very realistic, and it was interesting how they tied it up with Brendans internalized homophobia. I am just happy they did not end up together, because I cannot see that as a happy ending.
