It's been done so many times ... Handsome and Charismatic gay guy falls for a sexy man who is married or in the closet, living an ostensibly straight life, and they want to keep it a secret. There's something exciting for the viewers, being in on a secret affair, especially when the man is very high profile (Brendan, Robert) or about to get married (Callum). But IT WORKS so well again here. The writing/ dialogue for John Paul and Carter has been surprisingly good, with some magical and even breath-taking moments. They're close to matching Robert & Aaron having it off in the garage, or Ben and Callum's breath-taking first night in the park.
I was just realizing how many times soaps use this same trope lol, kiss of a scorpion did it with Paulo and Miguel, One life to live did it with Oliver and Kyle, Eastenders with Ben and Callum, A Herdeira with Dinis and Salvador and now Hollyoaks with John Paul and Carter. It would be nice if people came up with new scenarios, but I will say JP and Carters is a different approach with the conversion therapy storyline.
@@Hotspot87 Yes, it's used time and time again, even more than I realised from the ones you've mentioned which I didn't know about. Yes, each one has it's own special elements like with JP & Carter. Wonder exactly what makes it so exciting for viewers?
@@artl1832 Yeah, agreed, the acting has been very, very good and both actors are really attractive ... lots of chemistry there. Unfortunately, Hollyoaks and other Soaps have a habit of stuffing things up, and the latest story-lines don't suggest that they'll get together, which would be very sad if it goes nowhere after such a promising build up. Cheers
