I absolutely love the results from my SteadXP... but I absolutely hate using it. The company's provided setup instructions are garbage, and they're still selling the same model as their kickstarter back in like 2017. No new versions to fix these silly issues. This products' market is ripe for new competition. Thanks for giving the small SteadXP community a voice, Tyler!

And that my phone may be more suited for some things that I film. I have a gimbal gathering dust because you are so right that it takes too much fiddling with as I'm trying to film and things are just zipping by me.

Interesting, I haven't heard anything about them for a while! So to sync the gyroscope data with a footage you just need to shake your camera in the beginning of the shoot and everything else is automatic? Or do you need to drag something manually? Would be nice to see the software that applies the stabilization :) Right now I see it like audio sync :) I was thinking to make something similar, as a side project, so wonder how steadXP works :)

Im using several C100's and would love to use this since my wireless setup does not work well (at all) with a gimbal. Im wondering if, based on your experience, you think the best workflow would be to: 1. bring the footage into editor (davinci in my case) and combine the 2GB clips (gotta love the canon) and color grade. Then render out to high res files for multicam switching 2. Stabilize the files in the steadXP software OR vice versa? stabilize all the 2GB files first then go through my workflow.
@LKBL8
@LKBL8 3 года назад
This is the same like make stabilisation in editing software (Premiere Pro), isn't it? Then what is it for? It is not real physical stabilisation like with gimbal, but software cropping stabilisation like in editing software, so I can make it in Premiere Pro or Final Cut the same way. Am I right?

Spot on review. I've been using the Stead XP for almost a year now. It does it's job well but it comes with a few headaches of configurations, setups, and post processing which also requires a fast computer if you shoot a lot of footages. Overall, I prefer it over a gimbal but you have to get use to the work flow so you don't screw up during the shoot process or your footage is ruined. It's only a matter of time until more stabilizations are built into more cameras so we don't have to rely on 3rd party devices.

I think under ideal conditions (lots and lots of light) this works great. But it can't remove motion blur smearing artifacts as far as I can tell, which is mostly what makes post-stabilization unusable for my workflow (low light, 180-360 shutter).
@TechnoBabble
@TechnoBabble 3 года назад
Exactly, compared to a gimbal you're losing resolution and you're introducing unnatural artifacts caused by motion blur in the original footage.
@hummersd

Hopefully SteadXP is watching this for the next generation where you don't have to do much calibration to get it working. Exact same thoughts on it. A second version could definitely address some of the annoying things about it. E.g. there should be a button to write a new file, rather than unplugging the 3.5mm cable each time. I’ve had mine for 5 years now and have used it professionally for specific shots, but it’s still no gimbal replacement given you can’t preview the outcome.
