Despite having no sound track, an amazing production, bringing back memories of Railways in South East Wales, as I remember all those years ago...Many Thanks...Bob

A fascinating video for me, who saw this era of steam in Wales during my early teens. I lived near Whitland, junction for the Pembroke Dock and Cardigan branches, but often went to Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. So it was a fascinating experience of "identify the place"; and I think I got many of them right. Also "spot the class of locomotive"; and I think I got all of them right. Finally there was at least one specific engine that I remember well, Castle Class "Earl of Ducie", which I saw on several occasions. Thank you!

Thanks for bringing back memories, it's easy to tell the period that these were filmed, the leakage of steam and the filthy condition of the locos. Good to see they have named a 37-class diesel, 37714 Cardiff Canton.

Fascinating video. So sad to see those ex GWR locomotives in such a dreadful state; filthy and leaking steam everywhere. They were obviously near to the end of their working lives.

Astonishing.. a little before my time but wonderful to see so many places I’m familiar with in such a different era and in colour too!

Spent a lot of time at Newport High Street. I saw this video some years ago and it mentioned 7029 leaving Newport was the last train from Gloucester to Cardiff. Some express shots are passing Ebbw Junction.Spent some time there as well as a lad.Great video.

This train was probably the one that left Gloucester in the early hours of the morning.I had a ride behind 7029 one summers morning in 1965 and then on 4/10/65 behind a Grange. The train was mostly parcels vans with a couple of coaches attached.

Some good historic footage. Apart from the locomotives & rolling stock, it also shows what the signalling was like at that time - it was almost brand new then. E.g. in the first clip, in the top right corner is the Newport Panel Signal Box, with it’s operating floor on the top, and the relay room down below. It was there until just a few years ago, but the layout and it’s signalling was new when these shots were taken.
