'Steam at the Furrow' the Steam Plough Club Great Challenge

This short sequence of clips is taken from the 100 minute DVD 'Steam at the furrow' recently released by Avalon Video. Over a weekend in September the Steam Plough Club organised a ploughing match just for its members utilising only steam ploughing engines and equipment - the 'Great Challenge'. This seventh challenge saw 10 ploughing sets - 20 ploughing engines working the fields the way it was done over a 100 years ago. The new DVD covers all of the activity, all of the engines with interviews and comment from those involved.

The really amazing thing about the steam plowing is,just how quiet those engines are,and the seemingly effortless work that they do!Plus the fact that steam engines,like electric engines, can double their rated horsepower, for short periods of maximum effort 👌! Internal combustion can't do the trick! Thank you for your diligence and time,your information was never in the books on steam traction engines, that I had read!! When there is a Carrington Event,and the whole electric grid goes down, those engines will just soldier on! Thank you 😇!

It permitted really steep and soft ground fields to be plowed without the risk of getting stuck. In difficult terrain it worked well

One big farm had so plough like the first one is. Was only one of kind in Finland. It is even now days counted with money worth changed by time, most expensive farming machine of all times here.

Sadly ruined by your insistence on repeatedly writing your web address across the bottom of the picture! The aesthetic of watching machinery from a bygone era is completely spoiled when you plaster your web address all over it. I couldn't watch any more than 3 minutes of it. Thanks for nothing.

Came to the comments section to say exactly that. Who on earth thinks it acceptable to put that in a video. If you are trying to advertise your services you have achieved the exact opposite, absolutely appalling! Maybe once right at the start and end would be reasonable.
