Great video mate. I’ve had the Steam Deck Oled for about 3 weeks now and it been fantastic. I had no pc game library so slowly building up the games in steam and love the amount of available games. The biggest positive for me in the deck is the quick resume, which is something my ally just couldn’t do
@TheTechUnravel

The great thing about PC gaming are the discounts so I know you'll build a big library in no time. Quick resume is great and I hope they'll improve it in time as sometimes I get some bugs like the sound. But these are software things and they have been improved in time. And btw, you are the perfect example of why the Steam Deck is a success, mate. It's just better for you. Love to have different options for different needs. A big win for us consumers

Since you didn’t have a steam library I assume you’ve also never played FTL. It’s (relatively) old, but still one of the best games I’ve ever played and there still hasn’t been a similar experience that surpasses it. I come back to it every few years and put another 100 hours into it.

It took Nintendo to take an old idea from Sony, a hi-end handheld console and go the next step with it to make these companies realize how ppl would pay a pretty penny for a good handheld. Sony just threw that idea in the trash.

why are you selling both? why not just one? I doubt Steamdeck can run AAA games for the next few years because the technology may be outdated because many AAA games can now only be played at 30 fps, unlike Ally or Legion Go whose technology It's still quite new and it's still possible to run AAA games like GTA 6 in 2025

Funny enough People sometimes asked me why I didn’t play video games And I always responded that - my favorite form factor died with psp .. When stem deck came out And Ive seen MKBHDs review I was like - no way that’s going to work, that is exactly what I wanted but the shape is funny and promises are waaaay out there … Well then, when Hogwarts legacy was about to come out I’ve decided to get anything: PS5, Xbox or… And so when the game came out I waited for like a week to see if steam deck can handle HL After founding out that it is so I’ve ordered it And was happy ever since!) Love that format of gaming Simple Convenient And all games that are actually interesting - are there!)

needs better support for windows to run proper pc games the deck is still a console and will only be a console. asus and other competitors went with windows fully supporting it with driver updates. valve just expanded on their walled sandbox. leaving scraps for people who want to play games with anti cheat you know the real AAA titles.

That’s why I mentioned that I use the Ally a lot more these days. But it all comes to preferences. I know a lot of people for which the Steam Deck is more than enough and actually prefer the simplicity of SteamOS

I believe this is true with the Steam Deck. While Proton keeps improving, I still get issues when trying to launch these “verified” games. For instance, I put Shenmue III on sleep mode the other night. Then I went back to playing it yesterday afternoon. I got audio glitches and awful dropped frames. Needed to exit it and then get connected to Wi-Fi again to launch it. Stuttering and lag went away. It’s issues when launching games (if they launch) that’s my main issue with the Steam Deck. It’s still a PC at heart but the games were not originally built for the OS it runs on. While something like a Vita or Switch have games built for that handheld and that OS that you don’t have performance issues like that. The games are well optimized to run on those systems. But honestly, that’s my only issue with my Steam Deck. I wouldn’t get an Ally or Legion Go because I know a HARDWARE manufacturer like Asus 🇹🇼and Lenovo 🇨🇳 will release a successor every single year which means owners will need to sell their handheld every single year and at a loss. This isn’t like selling iPhones which can retain their value better than most Android smartphones. Take the ROG Ally for example. I see the Z1 Extreme go for as little as $400 on OfferUp. Sometimes for as little as $350. That’s a loss of $350 to someone who bought it last year. Then they need to come up with another $300-$350 to get the Ally 2. And this may repeat every single year because Asus isn’t out to support their users with software updates. They just want as much of their hardware sold. All these handhelds have their share of flaws. It’s really up to the user to decide which flaws can they live with? I know the Steam Deck is no longer the most powerful hardware. But that doesn’t matter if Nintendo has usually come out with underpowered handhelds since 1989 and still came out on top against more powerful handhelds. I only need three handhelds myself but I have about 6 gadgets to cover Gen 3-8. PSP 2K (modded): Plays up to Genesis as I do see some issues with Super NES. This is mostly used as a backup in case my Vita ever breaks down. PS Vita 2K (modded): Plays up to PS1/PSP games, a few PS2 ports, and it’s own library of Vita games. Switch Lite: To play all the Nintendo exclusives I missed out including a few Wii U ports. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Snapdragon 888 can play up to PS2/GameCube/Wii games but not all. Apple iPhone SE (2022): Has games that would be considered “indies” for the Switch and Deck. Steam Deck 512 GB LCD: Takes care of the rest with EmuDeck but I use it mostly to play AAA I missed out on during the last 18 years since I stopped gaming much since the start of Gen 7. I also have a Essential PH-1 and Pixel 3 which plays up to PSP/Dreamcast flawlessly but Snapdragon 835/845 will have trouble with PS2 and GameCube. I don’t find any of those cheap Chinese retro handhelds worth it or even a Odin 2 for $300 when I can cover those eras with my Android smartphones while they’re all on airplane mode since I use an iPhone as my daily driver. I enjoy watching Retro Game Corps, ETA Prime, and Taki Udon talk about these retro handhelds, but in my mind, I know I’ll never buy them after my bad experience with the Data Frog SF2000. And I can play many of those old games on a Vita. I won’t buy a ROG Ally or Legion Go either since I don’t trust Asus and Lenovo.

Love to see everything you are using and all the details you gave us. I agree with you about the Steam Deck, as I said in the video as well. But again, for a lot of people this is more than enough and I always go through all the positives and negatives of all these handhelds when I recommend one to someone. Even recently, a couple of people for which I did this, they decided the Steam Deck is the one for them in the end, and that’s great. It’s great we have all these option where we can choose from. And about the support for the Ally…I get it and it’s a shame this will probably happen. Time will tell

@@revswimWindows is what everything is made for, so while Linux isn't a walled garden in terms of willingness to support software/features they are a practical walled garden due to how one must jump through hoops to get what they want on there (if they can get it at all). I would've preferred that Linux took the front seat because I really enjoy the approach they take towards the OS more than Windows, but as it stands Windows is still the defacto gaming OS because of how much shit Linux is missing.

The deck started a trend, but it got defeated, thats why they Just had a public PR congratulating all the other big handhelds. Now they might have planned for all this though to be honest. Usually to start a new product/industry you cannot do it and survive unless for a patent, which they didn't have. Valve doesn't have the machines and factories to make chips, processors, etc. this is easily demonstrated in how freaking fast lonovo, msi, ausu, etc. jumped right on board AND even announcing verisons 2 already since they create their own parts they can jump into the industry infinitly cheaper than valve did and can (going forward), that's why its said a steam deck 2 isnt going to happen, no plans at all, too far out. Can't do it, not happening but im convinced they will not do a deck 2 even though they semi mentioned it, as they dont create, they have others make it for them on premium price raping us can they sell it getting away with $600+ for WAY too long, they dropped the deck day 1 with outdated gen 2 tech and low quality plastic and such. You feel this immediately when you touch it for the first time. Why did everyone else jump on board? because the biggest surprise was that everyone WAS buying them up, that outdated gen 2 gear for crazy high prices, and was the golden ticket that the other companies were like, wth?!? 600 those jank are selling for that 😮, well fasforward to today and everyone has since dropped their premium specs and build materials, forcing valve to drop to prices or totally lose the entire field, so they're not making out, but the other devices CAN afford to drop SO much cheaper because they actually create the hardware!! Theyre not nearly at their bottom dollar yet but valve is beyond it already on handhelds. So by and large its obvious that steam deck is for poor people, but valve totally screwed their fan base this year in running a HUGE warehouse emptying discounts NOT revealing that the Oled was dropping right around the freaking corner haha the very next season so the majority of their fan base whom are kids or parent buy them for the kids cannot afford the Oled now that steam did them dirty, just look at the pitful comments "ill just wait for steam deck 2😂" guys, unless its $850-900, valve cannot produce to keep up with the markers this is why they ALL got in it knowing valve making bank off OLD gen 2 tech. I think valve planned for all this though, it was their whole idea to sell more games and steam content igniting a whole worldwide new gaming industry that i love it all. I have a deck, being im poor but ill def be getting also the Orange Neo, maybe the Rog 2, and very tempted with the awful sound and pitiful controls of the Lgo but just to have them all for fun, BUT now you will watch exactly how valve is going to unfold exactly as I say.

I think the biggest goal for Valve was to get more people on Steam. So even as is, the Steam Deck was a success, financially speaking. And getting more companies on board, like Asus and Lenovo, that means even more users to Steam. I believe they didn't care to patent this and also the concept is not new. It would've been pretty hard to patent this whole idea. Related to Ally 2, I have my concerns there as well so time will tell which company will to well with a new console but I really hope more will do it as competition will only be good for us users.

Steam deck of course has some weak points. For the price point no one has beaten it though. Performance is kinda bad, if you focus on modern AAA titles than steam deck is not for you. But even other more pricey handhelds not as much improved in performance field as one might think. For me it's just a given fact that today's CPU in handhelds can't be a ton quicker than what steam deck gives. I don't like others proposal of giving you a "better" screen, because most of that better comes from increased resolution, which needs much better performance, which is not achievable for modern games. ROG, MSI, Lenovo - all took this stuff as their marketing campaign, missing the point of why this handheld became popular in the first place. They didn't engineer new device from scratch. They've taken Steam Deck and made it "better" in things that easy to market. And of course no one can beat $400 price. Actually as an alternative I prefer weaker smaller handhelds, just because Steam Deck and windows handheld tend to be monstrous in size and weight a kilo. As of your story of selling and producing steam deck, I think it's business. That's why all consoles are generally announced in the last minute - otherwise it will hit on sales of their previous model. And I think they used an older chip because the development process was long. It's not like it's copy and paste a new chip and you are done, not for Valve at least. Same as Apple Vision Pro has M2 chip
