I’m torn between a Valve refurbished LCD (£319) or an OLED (£479) but I’m not sure if the £160 difference is worth it, I’m usually a console gamer so I’m also having to build my steam library from scratch
Happy to help Strongo! Check out the tutorials right here on the channel such as EmuDeck, Chiaki4deck PS remote play and Greenlight and let us know how you go on, happy gaming! 🙌
@@Khitsik13 Hello! First I ordered lcd 512g, I received it and tried it and it was incredible..... I immediately regretted not having taken the oled hdr one. I returned it and took oled 512 ( no anti glare one ) It's an incredible machine... really. 100% happy and still discovering every day. (I'm passionate about windows/android since win95 and android 1 xD) 👌😎
@@PeteTalksTechoh you guys can’t get the LE version? I got it and kind of regret it since I don’t like the interior look of the case, and the orange is meh. I like the jet black of the 512. Also I got a 2Tb drive to replace the included 1Tb and I have the extra goodies already on steam from my 512GB LCD model so it really felt like I was splurging on the LE version, which wasn’t that limited to begin with.
Taki Udon doesn't really suggest to get the glossy one, he concludes that it doesn't matter, either one is great and suggests you choose based on which you afford and if the other upsides are worth it to you. I got the 1 TB because of this. To me, the increase in storage is important and the alternative of getting a seperate SD and installing it myself sounded like more of a hassle than just paying about 100€ more.
And the resell ability should be quite worthwhile if looking to upgrade to the next Steam deck, since people would rather purchase the nice 1TB model if in great condition
Tbf installing a 2Tb SSD is a hassle, but even I could do it following a Taki Udon guide. Wish I got the 512 instead of the LE OLED because once I figured out which connectors to remove (about 3 need to be removed) when swapping SSD’s, it’s a really easy process. It’s a hassle the first time, once you figure it out it’s very simple and easy to do. Takes maybe 20-30 minutes when you know all the steps, very hard to mess anything up, just make sure to have the correct tools like a Torx set.
@@casedistortedSure, I believe it's very doable and it's a perfectly valid way of going about it, especially if you want the glossy display. But where I live I would save 20€ at best, as I'd still have to buy the 1TB. And that to me just isn't worth the hassle. Plus, after some use, I absolutely wouldn't want to miss the anti glare. For my use case it is definitly worth it.
I rather mod it if I want more internal space than have a degraded IQ of the OLED tech or get the 1tb then add a screen protector to fix the degraded iq
6:28 don’t you see how the blacks aren’t affected at all when the deck is directly pointed at the camera? Also in retro game corps’ video, he literally had to zoom in with a macro lens to see the haze that you get with the etched glass. I still had to strain my eyes to even see the haze
Get the 1TB if you can afford it. The data speed on the SD cards arent even close to the SSD. Thus, your games are not gunna run as well on the SD card vs the SSD. Plus, you need a screen protector anyway so get a glossy protector.
The etched glass works wonders when playing outside and in dark environments. I like tonplay while the family is sleeping and I need to be with them so the added less brightness helps a lot. Thinking of trying out a glossy screen protector.
So, is it worth getting the 1tb one over the 512gb one? Here in Aus the 1tb is 1300 and the 512gb is only 1100. I can get a 2tb 2230 Nvme for around 200 bucks and intend to do so to upgrade internal storage, i also intend to get a screen protector for the deck. With that in mind is it worth getting the 1tb or not at all?
Great question Chaotic! I got the 512GB and have no regrets as I can always add a matt screen protector if I want to, plus I had an unused 512GB SD card I use with it now, and of course saved almost £100 in the process…
I got the 1tb model and alsoo ordered a 2tb nvme and a nvme enclosure. so my steam deck will have 3tb of onboard storage and 1tb extra that i can use anytime with usbc

Already had a 2TB drive from my LCD Steam Deck. Went for the 1TB LE because I prefer the etched glass and I wanted the Limited Edition anyway. Can't stand glossy screens, especially glossy touchscreens.
I bought the 512 oled but didn’t open it thinking should I change and get the 1TB though I have a 1TB SD card. After seeing the difference the etched glass is not worth the hassle of exchanging it.
Awesome Marcio and congrats on your new OLED! Get even more excited about your new OLED in my review! 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PoSAKzuOwh8.htmlsi=AKggbgoehvqF-iEe …and let us know how you get on! 🙌
Great question Paula - I’m not sure but I’m sure there will be vids online of them… I got the 512GB and I don’t at all miss not having these extras you mentioned as to me they are very insignificant 👍
@PeteTalksTech agreed, maybe if the LE was still available I'd go for it but otherwise I'm leaning towards the oled 512gb! Thanks for the response and great video! :)
Thanks Paula! I got the 512GB like I say and I’m so happy I got this version, I think you’ll love it! Check out the tutorials on the channel and TONS more planned so stay tuned! 👀
On these youtubers comparisions of the oled 512 and 1tb versions. Why is the border thicker on their claimed 1TB versions? isn't the thicker border a sign of a LCD model?
Hey geek, the border shouldn't be thicker on the 1tb model, it's only thicker on the older LCD models which had a screen size of 7" compared to 7.4" on BOTH the 512gb and 1tb OLED models... 👍
Hello! My English is bad.... I look the vids... But don't understand all. Today I'm buying Oled one. 512 is my choice but a have the money for 1to. 512 screen, without traitement is better for Oled color right ? Thanks in advance 😊
I’d say so yes - I got the 512GB and have no regrets! Congrats on getting your new OLED and check out all the tutorials here on the channel like how to play retro games! 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uOxYmEHPCtY.htmlsi=PagV_rxXnW8sUA7a
@@PeteTalksTech Thanks for fast rep 😊 So... My English it's no so bad apparently 😀 Yes, I'm ready for check your vids, emulation , steam and sooo many more 😎 I'm so happy. Thanks you 😊
I wanted the limited edition because it is "special," but my first steamdeck has the etched glass, and I installed the etched glass on the first steamdeck I modified. So I prefer it anyway.
@@newbeginning1510if your focus is to play games from the steam library, 512gb is fine. I have the 512, and I also have an additional micro SD 512. So storage is not an issue. Also the screen is fine for me, the etched glass IMO is overrated- but of course this need will depend on the lighting where you will use the device.
@PeteTalksTech to be honest it's OK for a Linux handheld. Sure some games with anti cheat can't run. But inm OK with the 1tb model. Mostly use it as a JRPG machine though lol
Hey Jessica, the reason why I didn’t compare performance between these 2 models is because the have the EXACT same specs so performance will be EXACTLY the same 👍
