Steam Deck Repair Fail - Extended Version - This Steam Deck was sent in by a viewer who dropped it and tried to fix it themselves, but it seems their fix wasn't very successful. A closer inspection with my microscope shows just what went wrong with the soldering and what we need to do to fix it. Let's see if we can get these bumpers working again!

Great video! I do love these longer videos. They give key insights that you miss in the shorter ones. I appreciate the extra dialog and also repetitive nature of the operations. Helps to put things into context sometimes related to how long it should take to repair a given item and what additional steps may be needed along the way. These give me hope to someday be confident in my own electronic endeavors. I'm building a CNC machine on my channel and I've taken a lot of inspiration from your channel with regard to how I might go about tackling some of these electronic challenges.

Non-toxic flux is only half the solution to soldering hazards. I had a friend who was a plumber by trade and worked overtime doing basement supply line rough-ins for about 2 months straight, 12 hours a day. He started to notice pain in his joints, and persistent nausia. It turns out, after seeing a doctor, that he was suffering from metal poisoning. When you solder the smoke is not just the flux, but vaporized metals too. Always use you fume extractor, and if you find yourself still inhaling smoke consider further remediation methods like a mask. Metal poisoning can be very serious, and bery painful. Careful out there

Multi-layered board with ground plane exposed underneath where the middlepin is. Either dremel it away or seal it properly underneath and just use wirelink between middle switch connection to broken trace only, and don't try soldering the middle switch pin to the board.

If you are going to attempt repairs yourself. Take more than just 5mins to watch a youtube video. Make sure you actually understand what you are doing and take your god damn time. Why do people keep rushing repair attempts and just making things worse.

$300 for that device I understand you’re going to even out. Or probably make money on it just by the RU-vid video but $300 for a device like that on a consumer that’s not gonna make a video on it. It looks like the person selling the device was trying to rob someone if you ever see a broken steam deck that someone has already opened up and somethings wrong with it if it’s $300 do not buy it $200. Don’t even buy it now 150 that’s kind of meh On eBay it’s often important to read the details. Otherwise you may be sent yourself up for failure in case of tronicsfix he’s gonna make money off the video which will offset the cost

I know yo said yo don't like using a Lot of *FLUX* but that's why I'm sorry to say yo repair looks like a Rookie on their second day of working in the field. So~so sorry for being so harsh but flux is imperative, so never ever hold back from relying on all of it's many benefits that for the most keeps solder where it is needed and as it's doing that keeping the area clean from contaminates that cause all sorts of probs *Use as much FLUX as you can* if you want a clean finish, and remember to wipe away the excess flux while still hot, followed by a good soaking of IPA if you want to get any where near to My Mate Vince's level of soldering and finish.. APU👁👍

$300??? Man you are REALLY good at repairing stuff - but you are not very skilled at buying stuff! This device is $419 from brand new - so spending $300 on it in fully working order would be a pretty meh deal. $300 for a broken example with 0 warranty however - that is HORRIBLE my man! Like actually $200 wouldn't even be a great deal considering that it's not just broken - but an amateur has been inside it trying to "fix" it... In my experience that increases the risk of the device being bricked by a fairly large amount. Paying half the price of the new price for a potentially bricked device is fairly risky no matter how you look at it - and paying 75% is just reckless IMO.

Try finding one faulty to start with there’s not many in the wild because of valves return to base policy and out of guarantee pricing you can not get all the parts regardless of what’s on I fix it. Is all you get. Changing the screen you could brake the ambient lights sensor and you can not buy one that’s a 100 pound fix for a hole new screen
