microsoft is too slow and dumb... it's an absolute great idea! I can imagine this being super helpful, and making handheld pcs a gold choice, more than it is now. but hey... if not microsoft, someone will make a mod ;)

I'm running full windows 10 on mine(not dual boot) but I have a 13 inch OLED screen and use keyboard and mouse. I really didn't get on with linux and with my original Dual boot I was always in windows so went for a windows only Steam Deck. I have a decent gaming rig but with the huge increase in electricity prices I now only use it for VR or games that really benefit from a large screen.

I'm honestly open for that! Would even move me to install Windows to my Deck

Well killed that dream for now. I'm thinking any kind of handheld mode will get tied into the xbox app like big picture in steam.

I friggin wish this would happen. what i hate the most about my steam deck is not being able to transfer my windows steam game saves, to the Steam os games. If that was able to be done, id just play on Steam os on the deck. WTF steam?

One issue for this project is that there's nothing in jt for Microsoft, so I can't see them getting on board with it so easily. Either Microsoft starts making Windows-based PC handhelds themselves, or they tightly integrate the Microsoft and Windows store apps into the handheld mode in order to get people to buy games from them. I'd happily use a Windows handheld mode also on my main PC for playing on my TV, but I wouldn't buy games from Microsoft directly due to the DRM. So yeah. Game Pass is a different story though, I'd be down for that on the Steam Deck in Windows.

OEMs will appreciate having such mode on Windows

@@TheTytan007 To be honest, I don't know how their business relations work. Does Microsoft earn money with every OEM sale? I think I saw that Windows was even free for OEMs under certain conditions.

@@Thornskade If licencing remained the same as with Win10 then each device beneath 8 inches screen size gets Windows for free. But Microsoft can pull the same thing as with Windows 8.1 Bing edition which OEMs got for free, but in exchange the OS was trying to elevate Microsoft services.

If they actually do this then what's the point in actually buying an entirely different machine just install Windows?

I'm quite sure WalkingCat and /u/AndrewMT are different people. WalkingCat is very well known in Microsoft circles for finding hidden/cool/interesting things happening around Microsoft and Windows.
