In my never ending quest for generating power by unconventional means, I've opted to make a steam engine generator. In this video I discuss which kind of motor I'm going to use, and the circuit to rectify and regulate the voltage.

Thanks Taylor, I'm in the process of building a stepper motor wind turbine to power an outdoor hydroponic grow tower and I was making good progress but was getting confused with the part after the bridge rectifiers in order to charge a battery to power a submersible pump. Your video was by far the easiest to understand how to use the buck / boost / capacitor to charge the battery. Good job.

Hi im currently In the process of making a wind Turbine myself and want to use a stepper motor like the one in the video. Does the shaft have alot of resistance when turning? Do you think it'll be able to spin with a small prop?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and if you could suggest any improvements or better ideas for a small scale low windspeed Turbine that would be amazing.

Hey mate! Steppers have a lot of resistance due to the magnets, so you will need a larger turbine than with a dc motor. You could also use a reduction. Best way I reckon is to use a small stepper, Nema17 or MAYBE a Nema23 for a large setup

I haven’t yet! The ADHD kicked in, but I’m hoping to get back to this project at some point!

Hi Taylor, just a question - where did you get those parameters 2-80V about your buck/boost converter? I was searching for the same and all the same-looking that I found are max. for 40V. They look absolutely same from both sides of PCB. Are you sure with this range? Can you provide me a link for these converters, please? Thank you very much! Marek

When I search for the type which is visible at one moment in your video - SZBK07, it says input voltage is around 6-40V and it is just buck converter. I am confused now, so where is the true?
