Thanks. But how do you get on when you have six hundred games missing icons after upgrading your computer? Surely there has to be a much quicker way as all my games are stored on a number of hard and SSD drives.

I mean this tutorial kind helped but i cant open steam so is there a way to fix that it says "The drive or Network connection that the shortcut 'steam.ink' refers to is unavailable make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resourse is available. Then try again" so yea thats my question so maybe you can find a way to fix that two?

Thank you so much, I ran into a problem when I turned on my laptop, logged in and steam automatically logged me out. when I logged back in to steam all my games were un-installed. so I re installed everything but all the shortcut icons were blank pages. I tried so many ways to fix it and none worked until I watched this video. I followed all the steps and it fixed it! I owe you one, thank you so much!

I have a similar problem, i deleted internet explorer and I think that's the problem, my icons were blank, I go to properties which is a URL File now and change the app to open with to Microsoft edge, which didn't fix it. So I reinstalled the and the icon is now the Microsoft edge icon. do u know the fix ? (I did ur fix but I cant put in the location, i can only change the open with app) this also happened to my fortnite but all the other games that i had that weren't steam didn't have this problem)

For some reason, the location of the game exe would not automatically enter itself into the correct box. It remained as the steam url. I ended up copying the game exe url and entering it into the icon url box manually and then clicked apply. Worked perfectly, thanks very much.

What about within the Steam App itself? When in the store, several games have the unable to download image icon in the top left when hovering over the game... then I can see what game it is. I tried updating graphics and the driver... still didn't work

Ok, so, this is for when the game is already installed. What do you do when the icons aren't being associated when a game is newly installed from scratch on a new Win10 installation, AND you've already verified that "Internet Browser" is selected (As suggested by @furywind) as the default .URL extension?

The "fix" was to uninstall Steam, delete all directories and files dealing with Steam, going through the registry and delete all relevant entries for Steam, reboot, and then reinstall Steam. Two freshly installed Steam games are showing their icons.

yea so mine says different because it does not say web document so I cant change the icon, I can change it however but it will also change the icons of my other games, so its all like one same icon for different games

Here's how I fixed all of my shortcuts SUPER easily. Step 1: Right-click the blank shortcut. Step 2: Click properties, navigate to the change icon button Step 3: Browse to the game folder of that shortcut, and click on the game engine (ending with .exe) Step 4: hit ok Some games (Dishonored for me) may have the exe hidden in a very weird place in the game directory folder. You can always find it in the file explorer first.

Yeah sooooo.... All of my steam games are missing an icon (25-30 games) and I've fixed this problem twice by clicking properties and changing the image. The thing is the icons keep disappearing! After maybe a week or two they're gone again and I dont have the time nor do I want to try and fix this again for another 20 minutes ._. Do you have any ideas how I can reaply the icons faster or stop it from removing the icons?

it's easy go to any shortcut and "right click" --> "open with" --> "Internet Browser" or Go to default apps --> Choose default applications by file type --> .url --> Internet Browser Copy pasted this from another comment but thought you might have missed this

Thanks for this, i had not thought of trying it this way. Might have wandered into the verify files option if i kept looking ,but this saved me time. Unfortunately it didn't work, however, i know why it happened, and i was able to go to the properties of the shortcut, and change the icon to each game's .exe file in the game folders. (my icons blanked out after deleting and reinstalling almost all of steam, trying to fix a different bug in steam)
