JA1271 was a Hillside Workshops built ( in 1956, retired in 1971 ) loco and spent much of its working life in Otago and Southland. As far as i know it is burning coal ( like a Proper steam loco SHOULD not oil )!! Taihape was ''Fred Dag'' country, a real character, a famous cartoon Footrot Flats!
