A short voyage on my father's 21ft steamboat "George H. Sandin" This is the first steam launch my father built and the second one he owned after the Mikahala. He named this boat after his mentor in steam.
I apologize for the quality of the footage and sound. it was adapted from an old VHS tape and there has been some deterioration over the course of time.
George H. Sandin features an oil-fired 40sqft Semple vertical firetube boiler with ACME! tubulators burning REALLY old vegetable oil through a York/Williams steam atomizing burner, and a 3.5+5x4" Scripps compound reciprocating steam engine, condensing through a keel condenser. Hull was built by WestSail as their "Tug" model, very few are known to exist and we know of one other powered by steam.
The voyage was out of the Vallejo, California marina. Home port of South Lake Tahoe, CA.
Uploaded in memory of Todd Guldenbrien and his dog Arbuckle. You will forever be missed. Happy steaming in the big meet in the sky.
Filmed by Mike James
