When I was a kid growing up in the 1930's I lived with my grandmother in Washington DC. Her home was near the railroad tracks and right next to a section wrongly called a "hobo jungle." These men were not bums or vagrants they were all willing to work but there was no work to be had. They did all the maintenance on our house. My grand mother believed in sharing and our house was marked as a place where you always get a meal. Many times they would sit down to dinner with us. One night, one of the regulars said to her "Mrs Pyne, this is the best meal you have ever made." Whereupon a man who had never been there before said, "Are you Mrs, Pyne? I just got here from Denver just before I left a man said that if you get to DC be sure you go to Mrs Pyne's she is a great cook and you will always be welcome. I have been looking all over Washington for you." When I hear the sounds of steam locomotives and see them I am a kid again. The problem js I some times see the picture blurry because of my tears, but they are tears of happiness. Thank you so very much for giving an almost 90 year old man such wonderful memories

Many thanks for the reminiscence. My Dad was a steam locomotive engineer in the 40's & 50"s and I used to ride in the locomotive when I was a young kid. Your videos recall many happy memories. thanks for the great railroad history .. Cheers.

Personally I think steam locomotives look far more beautiful than the bland diesel trains and electric trains

I like the steam engine I think they are really interesting and fun to learn but sadly I never saw real steam engines when I heard they were scraped but they said that some of them was not scrapped
