That Nathan Steel six chime really sings and screams out loud “ hear me sing and watch me soar, my beauty shows shiny and gleaming as I hiss and roar “

You know a locomotive’s loud when you’re just about unable to hear its whistle over its exhaust. Stay loud 425. Also, professional level quality on this video, so a job well done mate. A job well done.

Yes, it amazes me how much 425 can drown out the whistle with her stack

The fact 2102 can do that is one thing, but a little Pacfic like 425 being able to do it with basically any whistle she wears is incredible. Hopefully once they get her back up and running I’ll be able to hear 425 in person

Man that Mars lite looks fabulous on the NKP 765! That brass Nathan kinda sounds more like the 779's whistle to me.

Truly the loudest working locomotive in regular service is Reading and Northern 425 there are times when her shotgun exhaust drowns out the whistle You could hardly hear it blow or hardly hear her bell ring but my favorite whistle is her Pennsylvania railroad 3 chime whistle

#1 - I'd love to hear -any- of these quills through my bedroom window late at night! #2 - Gotta go for that banshee howl of the Nathan 6, whether it's original or a replica. #3 - Of those, my fave is definitely the 1225. Spinechilling.

Man that modified C&O 6 Chime is literally a Reading 6 imposter. Just give it a flat top bell cover and you've got yourself a reading 6. Also did C&O actually put modified 6 chimes on their rostered power just because they sounded so good?

I was a little upset i didn’t catch 425 on her last excursion day for the autumn leaf because my friend was actually on that train, and he actually offered me a ticket because they had an extra one and for some reason I refused. I have no idea what I was thinking that night and I tried to get her in leesport but I got there right as she went through.

Where were the shots at c. 5:16 and the one just after it taken? In the first, that looks like the Lackawanna's Tunkhannock Viaduct in the background, but I don't remember a track under it. However, I seem to remember a bridge which. looks like that over the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic line in Ohio from other vids.. Is that it? Both scenes are spookily atmospheric at twilight, which I like. Too bad the fireman didn't open the firedoor to check his fire, though; firelight on the smoke would have been nice to see. Pretty gruesome-sounding whistle!.Being all brass as captioned, wasn't it the one off No. 700, the first NKP Berk, the first of the Van Sweringen design to reach state of the art for the wheel arrangement?

Thank you! The shot you mention is indeed on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic in Brecksville, Ohio, and the following shot was made further south on the line at Indigo Lake. That whistle is off of the original Nickel Plate Berk no. 700, and has been used on the 765 since she was reactivated in 1979.

The Reading passenger whistle is my favorite. Why no Reading freight whistle? The original N&W J whistle was great but this one sounds like it's gargling or something. The 576 whistle sounds great too.

I think the Steel Nathan 6 chime whistle came from NKP 700, also tomorrow's Iron Horse Rambles is a doubleheader
