Brian, I enjoyed watching and listening to your informative video about steam locomotive whistles. At the end of the first one, I listened to you explain who and where you were from. When I heard Schuylkill County, I was interested. I am in Ohio, but in 1971 I was a construction inspector, given the job of overseeing the development of both Fawn Lake and Lake Wynonna. That summer, I stayed near Orwiggsburg. Thanks for your demonstration. Dick In Ohio
Thank you for posting this interesting video. Lots of nostalgia there. I remember the Pacific Electric red cars in L.A. had a unique sound. Thanks for sharing.
Nice review/demo of whistles-learned much by listening and from your commentary. I grew up in Orwigsburg, and my brother lives in Summit Station. Between the Reading, the Pennsy, and the Lehigh Valley, we were surrounded by railroads in that area. Grandad worked for the Pennsy. Did you teach at a school in the area?
No. They did not. They only ever offered the 5 inch version. However, Crosby did. Their 4 inch whistles were used on the LNER’s p2 mikados and a4 pacifics, as well as Peppercorn a1 60163 tornado.
