Part 4 of this video series shows Barry Hiltz, Farm Manager of Ross Farm Museum steaming and bending the bow's so they'll fit into the frame. After they are fitted into the frame he explains about preparing the rawhide so it will work the best when filling in the snowshoes. Barry has been making snowshoes for over 25 years and does a yearly weekend demonstration at the museum showing visitors the process in which they are made. These videos were created to show everyone the work that is done prior to the snowshoe making event as well as some of the step taken after. Feel free to ask any questions about the snowshoe making process on here. Visit our website for information on Ross Farm Museum as well as our upcoming events.
Stay tuned for more videos to come as we plan to create even higher quality videos using a professional camera. Our goal is to become an online resource about Nova Scotia's rich agriculture as well as give people a chance to see some of the traditional skills used here at the museum. Keep checking back throughout the year, there's lots more to come!
