Trena, my wife is dying now after her long battle with MS. You will never know how your videos have been my companion through the years. Thank you for everything! ❤️
You are so talented and patient to honor the history of all of the pieces you work on. I really admire that about you. Also, the music you chose for this was wonderful. Thank you so much.
Sure, the craftsmanship. Sure, the tradecraft. Sure, the artistry. What floors me the most, though, is the patience. I honestly don’t understand how she can be that invested for that long without becoming bored or at least, discouraged. It’s a master class in wisdom.
I love this so much! Im very happy that you left so much of what was original to the trunk, especially how you left the old paper section in the lid!! You are so masterful in this restoration! Well done, Trena!❤❤
You got the trunk to finish out beautifully, love the colors and textures in/ on the trunk. Excellent job of relining the interior, like the fact that you left that section of original paper liner showing, that is part of the history and character of the trunk. Thanks for the video, enjoyed watching, beautiful piece. Shop is looking great, the time to get the power to the building will go quickly, you are a busy young lady, that makes time fly, so to speak.
I thought the paper looked familiar. AT Restoration, Fixing Furniture and John's Furniture Repair contribute to the great steamer trunks coincidence of autumn 2024!
It came out beautifully. The maroon gives it a leather like look. Really beautifully done. I’m with you on the lines in the paper. It would drive me crazy.
I am in awe of your new workplace. It will be fantastic. I am proud of you pushing through all the bad experiences to get to the light at the end of the tunnel. You are a strong woman. It's true what they say about a woman being a teabag. She doesn't know her strength untill she lands it hot water. Amazing work on this trunk! It looks beautiful! ❤️
More impressive magic from John's Furniture Repair. Beautiful work. Interior work on the trunk seemed more difficult than exterior. The new shop is really looking nice. Delay may be a blessing in disguise. You have a chance to really give some thought to layout and make it perfect. I moved into my shop years ago and at this point realize I have it so loaded with stuff I'll never have the chance to "do it right'. Most major problem I have is that I really really need to seal the floor, and it will never happen.
@@johnsfurniturerepair Yes, you have some stuff that might be a challenge for most sealers. My concern is mostly oils, the concrete soaks them up like a sponge. There are some really nice and mostly impervious coatings offered by Tennant that I wish I had used.
My first reaction on the used red color for the trunk was negative, however seeing the end result I have to admit I was wrong. My compliments for the restoration.
An amazing range of skills utilized in the restoration of this trunk. I think the one that blew me away is your hand sewing the leather handles, stunning and impressive.
Trena you are my favorite girl. Many thanks to you and your helpers for making these videos, and for all your work. And thanks for the knowledge; from a second year woodworker. 8)
Delays are so inevitable when it comes to builds and renos. My late husband would say that patience is it's own reward. On the positive side, the trunk looks great!
Beautiful! I admit I was a little apprehensive when you started applying the red paint, but the result is brilliant! Your client made an excellent choice.♥️
Man that clean up on the inside of that trunk was a nightmare! That must have taken many hours. Then the outside wasn't so easy either. So tedious. You have the patience of a saint. Great job!
Outstanding Trena, I love what you've done. The way you progressed your design ideas as you progressed. So beautiful. I saw the other trunks and I have to say tbis is by far the best. For outstanding care and respect for the original desjgn. Respect for the animal tbat provided the leather handles. Just sublime.
It's all coming together Trena. The truck came out beautifully. The music when you were working on the paper inside was so pretty. Take care and thanks for bringing us along.
Back in the late nineties and early two thousands our shop did about two trunks a month. They are a lot of work and a lot of fun to see how they turn out. Great job.
It is funny how many great restorers are doing steamer trunks now. I am SO EXCITED to have YOUR version, because I’ve been searching for content in order to do some justice to one from my great-grandmother. I always trust your work, so thank you, thank you, thank you!! ❤
Back in the early 90’s I tried my hand at restoring my girlfriend’s trunk, when I did NOT have enough experience (and still don’t have enough to do everything you did here!) what a tremendous restoration! “It’s Trena-mendous!” The shop!!! Coming along!
Very beautiful restoration, love how you kept as much original features as possible. 👍👍👍 LOVE the colors !! I have done 3 humpback trunks so far, various stages. Trying to finish a 1890 black leather trunk., my 1st leather one and found out the hard way about trying to restore/re-moisture old leather - mold, partly storage area ! Drop lid in top and tray were in multiple pieces plus the latch had been locked and someone had ripped out the locking part out of trunk. Got it for $10, can't complain. Been my retirement project. Been watching for a while and learning.
i love reworking old trunks and steamers . i have an old louis Vuiton camel back in my junk shed . Just the shell and lid . But i can rework it Probably make a few thou .Beautiful job . Great craftmanship . I love your color choice. inside is awesome color of that era .
Love the new shop and will pray that the new service will come sooner! The trunk restoration is so meticulously done as usual. Have a blessed day. Please update us on your health.
This trunk turned out wonderful, balanced between old and new. It was good of you to take the time and effort to restore the leather handles. Too bad about that paper, and I agree you could do better yourself, with wallpaper and paste. The wheels are probably not as necessary as they once would have been, when luggage porters had to hoist them onto trains and ships and upstairs into hotel rooms or into bunkhouses. It’s fun to think of where that trunk might have gone in days past! My dad had an old army trunk, which our family used often to move our household every few months in B.C. Blessings from Manitoba 🦬
This was a difficult restoration, requiring MANY different, unrelated skills and methods. Your general knowledge of repair ideas never ceases to impress me. Bravo! I can only think of one word to describe your work on this trunk - "Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"!
Funny story: after watching your video yesterday and loving how it came out, I went to look at 2 old trunks I have stored in my shed. They’re my grandparents. Anyway, I was shocked when I saw the one on top. It was black metal and deep red in between with wood slats! I’ll have to look inside tomorrow and see how it’s lined.
Nice job Trena! I have restored around 12 trunks over the years for family and friends. I did one that had a bullet hole in it from the owner's great grandfather.
The trunk looks so good. I think it would be a lot of fun to restore one, but I have considerably less knowledge of how to do so. Also, the shop looks great as well. It will be a lot of fun to see how you fit it out.
Fantastic job. I have a trunk like this. Outside either restored or original to perfect. Inside is original. All wallpaper and big shelf across trunk ,with little covered box and compartments in it, is original. The kept wood on top a pretty oak.
As a kid we fixed up an old steamer trunk. We lined the inside with a pattern paper that looked like old newspaper. The outside was painted black. We used that old trunk as a toy chest.
Oh the stories that trunk could tell. I wonder if it made it to China? The panel inside reminded me of that country. Wow, look at that lovely huge workshop 👏👏👏 ❤
