Steel Division 2 Campaign - Karelia #1 (Axis) 

at the beginning of the first battle you perfectly replicated the authentic axis experience in 1944 " i really have trouble covering this big a map with so few troops"

Colonel Savonjousi addressing the men of battered 10th Division, after the fall of Viipuri. 10th division was the unit who took the heaviest hit in the initial stages of Soviet attack. It had faced 9 infantry division, three armored regiments and massive amounts of artillery.

I've been playing this campaign for the last few weeks. It's easiest to break through the enemy lines at the far south east, where there are only a handful of machine gun battle groups. Be sure to keep the entire front covered by AA. A constant bombardment at the western island can prevent any kind of attack.

This game always feels so overwhelming, so many units and so much shit happening at the same time.

Also, I've found success using the howitzers as direct-fire cannons. Just one inside a gun pit can stop an entire offensive, and they can indirect fire into each other's radio ranges.

Playing the first few battles on the Karelia campaign on hard mode as Finland a few tips: 1) Have your Solithurn bunkers in front of other bunkers and be bait for enemy fire. Enemy infantry, arty and aircraft will focus their fire on these, pinning them down or destroying them while your MG and AT bunkers can continue to fire. This is especially true for the MG bunkers as the Finnish MG's have the same range as the Soviet MG's, 1200m, so you don't have a range advantage like the MG42. 2) When being attacked analyse closely how far your friendly AA ring covers. Reinforcing enemy aircraft on the campaign map will stop 2x squares away from you. Thus while the AA ring might cover your unit it will not actually engage the reinforcing unit. 3) [Cheesy] Make a indepth reconnaissance of the Soviet airpower by starting a campaign on the Soviet side and take regiment names, total number of planes, combat points and types of all soviet air regiments, including the ones reinforcing. As a result you can more accurately guess what air regiment they might bring in for each successive battle and bring reinforcements accordingly. 4) When no cover or buildings are available place MG's in trenches behind your infantry in trenches on return fire (both of which should be on return fire). If the enemy is about to get ontop of your own infantry turn the MG's on, with supporting arty/bombs then move the MG's to a new trench before the enemy artys their location. MG's are ultra important as the standard Finnish infantry squad is weak and will get hit hard by the massive number of soviet indirect fire weapons 5) Finish battles as quickly. Obviously this applies to all battles but is 3x as important in this campaign as the amount of infantry, mortars, arty and Andryushas the Soviets can potentially bring is ridiculous

Their spotting and sniping our leaders was ridiculous! In thick woods? No worries, red star Il-2 will kill... Luckily in reality the horde wasn't omniscient.

Tali-Ihantala was the biggest battle in the nordic countries history. Terrain is so rocky that artillery was absolutely devastating because every shell did explode on the ground level. My grandpa was there.

I really silike how they say vkt-line was the last defence line when the salpa line is where Lappeenranta also exists and am I the only one who thinks the maps orintation is wonky. I feel it should be rotated about 45 decrees counter clockwise

A better explanation for the planes sniping leaders is that they can smell out the capitalist elite and smash them to the ground! At the start of the campaign's video I was already thinking "oooh, that'll be a rough one", based on the Soviet's side previous series

I think this game got the history wrong, there was no German troops at this theatre, except around 70-plane strong detachment of German dive bombers commanded by Kurt Kuhlmey.

In Karelia i heard that the soviets lost nearly 75 % of their tanks to mines 😂. So thats why the Finns won a ! Good gameplay though

Being Finnish, some of the lines the unit have are super cringey.. But good gameplay, wish I was this good at steel division

Why does this video get so many views compared to the others you have?

Its hard to get good voice actors these days....was the 1st thought i heard the unit voices.Finnish voice acting is actually one of the things that in most games is rather butchered,i guess it boils down to costs. One exception to the rule is The control and the voice actor of Ahti, who is an actual major actor and nails the Finnish voice acting,in an English voiced game. And 2nd exception is my Summer car which was some engineering students little pet project,that has the humor vibe made to the voice acting on purpose.

The AI is ridiculously easy to break on this campaign. Just keep the Andryusha units bombarded and after a few initial attacks the Soviets will start skipping their turns because they dont want to attack with their depleted frontline units but don't know how to move them out of the way. It's a shame because this would actually be the most challenging campaign if the AI was up to snuff.

My heart bleeds as I see they have written names of the Finnish towns in the Karilean Isthmus by their stolen names and not the real Finnish names.
