they may be the greatest reggae band although i know it is hard to compare they legends. my doctor is Jamacian and he is a drummer/keyboardist in a reggae band. he is around 50 and has seen Steel Pulse about 50 times. he is always talking about how Peter Tosh is his man but Steel Pulse is the best! they sounded this good or even better when i saw them in a tiny venue in Norfolk, VA called The Boathouse, it was an experience to say the least. God Bless All Nations
i had same thought. they can improv so good it is amazing. i do not understand fully what Bob Marley described reggae as, "unity and all as one in praise of Jah", but i am starting to see the meaning in that. watching Steel Pulse you feel it. i saw them once and it was a great gathering of people with only happiness and a peace that could be almost seen in the atmosphere.

I saw Steel Pulse three times 1982/84/85 at the Brixton academy in London. I when twice with my brother phill and once with my ex girlfriend. All gigs were very good but the 85 gig was amazing great. Nice one one love.
As with ASWAD, one of the groups who collectively brought ALL PEOPLES together. JAH! Dhe! in God we trust! Thank you for your contribution to me & mine .Love you, JaneR
From the first time I hear the Live Version Album Rastafari Centennial.. I think that is the beast live album ever recorded and edited ever!!! The sound it's just amazing.
I saw Steel Pulse in Norfolk at the boathouse, probably the same performance, about mid 90's..........an unforgettable show! They even mention that Norfolk performance on one of their album covers.
Big up to Selwyn "Bumba" Brown!!! His vocals added to Hinds' makes Steel Pulses' sound so unique and great. He is one of the best keyboardists to ever do it!!!!

musically they may not be matched by many reggae bands or bands in general. they are just getting better with time and the frontman has the same powerful tenor voice for 30 years plus. wow. reggae is different, it is a conciousness like Bob said, Spiritual. i have heard Bob did like their music. with no words who could not love it, then add the poetry lyrics and it is Holy, Sacred.
blessed with the natural music. the power of music is stronger than politics keep listening all the time for it will teach Yu to become respectful, calm and the love for other brothers and sisters
This was by far the best Steel Pulse formation ever! They recorded Rastafari Centenial and I saw them in buenos aires ... almost 20 years ago! ... or even more...can't remember jaja
Vaya que buena banda de verdad que si sera un verdadero gusto vacilarlos aqui en venezuela que bueno sera disfrutar de la buena musica que hacen estos viejitos jah!!!!
Alejandro Martinez Major Steel Pulse fan.........but do yourself a favor & check the Roots Radics(backing band for Israel Vibration), Fully Fullwood Band(backed Peter Tosh), Misty in Roots(also out of England, but like Steel Pulse have Jamaican roots), or any of the Marley brothers' backing bands. Hard pressed to say ANY band is "better",than the Roots Radics!!!
male vocal harmonies are so much better than adding the female harmonies to the original tracks, reggae artists keep doing that! original style sounds so much better,!
