Took 18x bunnies with my new Beretta 692 on the weekend and I want to use steel shot because I spotted some eagles around recently and dont want these apex predators (aka dead bunny vacuum cleaners) to get any of the lead. Steel is the answer - especially since the behavior of steel (with more open chokes) is actually a better option for bunnies. Again. THANKYOU !!! Please keep making videos, they are doing more for the culture of shooting in au more than you know. Amazing work. I hope you are proud.
Thank you, Roger. I have used steel only when hunting here in the States as it is required when hunting waterfowl. There are some clubs that require steel shot on their ranges due to wetlands or bodies of water, so this is great information to have. Very well thought and made, thank you.
Thank you very much Mr. Roger to take the time to write out all of that information and put it in a video and share it with us. Thanks and have a great day. I look forward to seeing more of your videos, your latest subscriber.
Hey Roger, I`m new to clay shooting. I have been rough shooting for 50 years in West Lancashire with an old Greener GP single barrel full choke (and rimfires). Great video mate. Wish you well.
Hi Roger !!! Another good video !! Most of the clubs around my area have baned the use of steel shot becasue they had a lot of ricochet issues! ! And there was a case where someone got a ricochet back in the eye at one of the clubs i got to !! So it is now baned !!! So it might be more environmentally friendly but they do have a lot of down sides !!!
Ralph...good to hear from you...still alive and kicking and still trying to make it to A Grade...maybe next weekend if I shoot a 46/50...all the best and stay well!
Roger Pace : with all the videos and tips you give roger, I'm sure you will make A grade. By chance have you tried 5 stand yet? I have trouble with the " rabbit " clay.
Ralph...you are a good bloke...thank you for your faith in me...I am really nervous about next sundays comp...I have shot 5 stand twice...the clays go anywhere ...come from anywhere ...and you have to read the sign in front of you to know what you are going to shoot at...Ralph ..it's too blooming hard...targets going everywhere...at least with down the line its so predictable...I shoot about 50% in 5 stand...how depressing is that....I admire you for shooting 5 stand ...but i'm sticking to DTL...no 5 stand...no sporting clays...no olympic trench...my only goal is A Grade at trap...and then I shall be a happy man...always good to hear from you...stay well my friend!
Ralph ...I forgot...with the rabbit clay I read somewhere that if you shoot low on the rabbit the pellets can bounce off the ground and break the clay. I have never shot a rabbit clay so that's all I know.
Roger Pace 5 stand is a challenge, clays coming from a all direction and having to read their flight pattern is tough. But at least you have it a go, that is what matters. I say let the good lord guide your hand for your trap, grade A progress. Like you said don't call the bird until you are ready and break all clays if possible. And if it doesn't happen you can always try again.
Hi roger, I have recently gone to my 2nd competition. Starting with 14/20 single rise, 35/60 points score and 9/10 in single barrel. Again thank you for all your tips and a question what colour do you have for your bead/s? EDIT: I have recently found out about my gun pattern can you talk to us about this? My pattern being 50-50, is that good?
Kiel... my front bead is red and a small silver metal bead for the midbead. 50-50 is ok for skeet ...for trap shooting the most common pattern that people want is 60/40 up to 70/30. For trap we want a higher shooting gun because the clays are rising...stay well and good luck
Phillip...My silver pigeon had a white bead...and my 690 has a red bead...I didn't find any difference...maybe the white bead stands out a little more...as far as any benefit I really don't know...stay well!
for shooting clays with steel (mandatory in norway) would you recommend using the two tightest chokes that are approved for steel shot or should there be a bigger difference between the chokes?
Phil212...as you know steel shot requires more open chokes...so yes... use the two tightest chokes approved for steel...Thank you for watching......much appreciated...stay well and happy shooting !!!
You have to look up the manufacturers recommendations...sometimes they stammp it on the gun that it is proofed for steel shot...but you need to make sure...the easiest way is to ring beretta and ask!!!
Tracy...I was sick for a couple of weeks with bronchitis and my back playing up a bit...just got back from Portugal and Germany yesterday ...will post a video in the next couple of days...good to hear from you!
